The M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 Lens from Olympus has been designed for use with Olympus PEN Micro 4/3 cameras. With an equivalent focal length in 35 mm format of 90mm, this short telephoto lens is ideal for portraits and for low-light shooting. Its extremely wide f/1.8 maximum aperture can produce a beautiful shallow depth of field effect and is very effective in low-light situations. This Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) lens has ultra-fast, near-silent autofocus for shooting stills and video. Lens construction using extra-high refractive lenses produces excellent contrast and sharpness in stills and video, with chromatic aberration, ghosting and flare eliminated.

I love this lens. I use it on my Oly PEN E-P3. It is an ideal portrait lens though I don't shoot portraits except of my cat. I find it very useful for landscapes (getting over the road or parking lot) and many low light situations, and where shallow DOF is desired. I have used it for food photography with great results. It is not a problem, but I find this lens goes on with a bit of resistance. No complaints, this is a wonderful product.

Recieved mine on the day of my wifes' birthday. How lucky is that! Mounted it on my newly purchased E-PM1 and shot over 200 pictures. 80 percent of the photos came out like professional photos. The other 20 percent was user error.
Very happy with lense. This is a must buy lense for 4/3 camera system.

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 Lens:
i bought this for use with my e-p2. Many years ago I was a pro-photographer, now it's all for pleasure but still I like good sharp (from corner to corner) fast lenses. Most lenses for digital cameras seem soft (especially in corners and wide open) and have other issues --- bad build, chroma problems, and so on. I was pleasantly surprized by the quality and performance of this lens, reminded me of some of my old prime Nikon lenses.

This is a must buy lens for the four thirds format along with the 20mm. Only suggestion when using it wide open you might need an nd filter. Besides that super fast focus and build quality .

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 Lens:
A perfect complement to the OM-D: small, light, extremely sharp, even wide open, and with lovely bokeh.
Portraits are its forte, but can be used any time an equivalent field of view of 90mm is needed.
At this price, there is nothing in the market place that can compare, in my view.
I have this lens as well as the Panasonic 25/1.4, and the Panasonic 20/1.7, and plan on getting both the Oly 12/2 and the Panny 7-14, and these lenses (with various CV manual focus lenses) will cover all my needs.
As background, I have sold my Nikon D3 and D3s and all Nikon's top glass and now use a combination of the OM-D, NEX-7, and Ricoh GXR for all my work.

After reading other reviews, I had to try it. Yes this is a super sharp lens . Wish Olympus would include lens hood and case. Light weight, easy to use. This lense and the Panasonic 20mm are my go to 4/3 lenses. Don't even bother with the 14-42 kit lens any more. Used with E PL2

I am using this lens with my Panasonic G3 camera. It is a really nice lens, now one of the best I own. It is sharp, and takes photos with nice depth. It is also very good for indoor low light shots, and has great depth of field. It has become the main lens I keep on my camera.

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 Lens:
Have been living in the world of zooms for many years now and decided to giving a prime a try again (have not had a prime since my OM-1 decades ago).
Nice lens, would say it is consistently faster at focus and the image quality is great. Have been tied to a zoom for so long it is really making me think about my picture, methinks zooms have made me a bit lazy (won't be giving them up though).
If I had one complaint it would be I wish it would focus a bit closer, minor issue.

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 Lens:
Small, light and excellent image quality is what helps make m4/3 a viable high quality photographic system. The lens is very sharp wide open which gives a shallow DOF and makes it good for isolating a subject. It's a natural for portrait photography.
The only quibbles with the lens is that it doesn't focus very close (most m4/3 lenses don't) and it doesn't come with a lens hood.

I use this everyday on my Olympus Epl-2 and Panasonic GX-1 the quality of the optics and the Bokeh blow me away
Used to have a canon with the f4 24-105mm L lens different type items I know but cant compare in quality
If you want a 90mm equivelent lens with great optics light weight this is a must purchase

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 Lens:
Used the lens for street shooting and low light indoors. Excellent. The first glance through the viewfinder told the story. Even though I have the Panny 20mm 1.7 the Olympus was obviously sharper everywhere.

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 Lens:
Totally adequate general-purpose lens. Sharp image, decent color, suitable in low light. Slight greenish/yellow color tone in less-than-perfect lighting conditions. Acceptable bokeh, although not as creamy as that of Nikon and Canon 50mm equivalent prime lenses. Olympus 12mm f2 produces better overall image quality, at twice the price!
Highly recommended for the price.

Superb pics, great construction, smooth focus ring with perfect resistance. Used in conjunction with my Panny GH2 for video, it's lightness and fastness means I can shoot handheld more often. Cant wait to get the 12mm F2.

Very nice lens to get a shallow depth of field with nice looking bokeh. Quite compact, works nicely with my Panasonic GX1.
It does require a little more force than normal for attaching to the GX1.

Light weight, which is good for me. Use it on an E-P2. RAW file colors and contrast are very good; as good or better than my APS-C SLR, although less DR. My favrite m4/3 lens.

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 Lens:
I use this lens on my Panasonic GH2. It focuses quickly, is sharp, and is small and light.
The one negative aspect I can think of is that when mounting it to my GH2, it does not mount as smoothly as my Panasonic lenses.
It takes more force to rotate the lens into the locked position and this feels a little too stiff.
Other than that, it's a great lens.
