The 18-page-per-minute LaserJet Pro M1217nfw MFP Printer from HP prints, scans, copies, and faxes all in a compact unit designed to save space. The unit can easily be shared by members of a workgroup using either an Ethernet or wireless connection, saving you the cost of buying multiple printers. Additionally, the printer is compatible with Apple's AirPrint, allowing you to print via Wi-Fi from any Apple computer.
With a 1600-page single piece cartridge, keeping the printer running is hassle-free and straightforward. Also designed to save you money and resources, the printer's automatic on/off function lets you be sure the printer is turned off when not in use, either at a set time each day (such as 5 pm) or after a specified time of inactivity (e.g. 1 hour).
The printer's easy to use control panel lets you perform all unit functions without being at a computer. The dial pad as well as the easy to navigate menus let you copy, scan and fax from the printer without being at the computer. The 35-page automatic document feeder allows you to perform batch operations such as multiple page copy jobs in one step.
The 33.6 kbps fax modem operates as a full-function fax machine with a dedicated numeric keypad for easy dialing. To ensure no faxes get lost in the event the printer cannot print the fax (e.g. there's no paper in the printer or the toner is out), the machine can store up to 500 pages of received faxes. The fax memory can also be used to reprint previously received faxes that need to be accessed at a later date. The machine's 100 speed dial locations are useful for storing frequently accessed numbers so you don't have to enter them each time.
The scan and copy functions can be operated either from the computer's interface or using the printer's intuitive control panel. Easily scan color documents to your computer to reduce paper clutter and create a paperless office. Once you scan a document, the included OCR (optical character recognition) software can convert the document image into editable text. The ADF can be used to scan a multipage document without having to stand there and feed each page individually, letting you continue to work while the scanner carries out the job.

Typically don't spend time to write reviews but i thought i would weigh in this holiday season. I work from home and need a multifunction no nonsense printer that gets the job done. I'm not necessarily interested in color print outs of photos...just being able top copy , print, scan, and occasionally fax. I previously had an inkjet which i wasn't too happy with because the cartridges were so expensive. The HP multifunction Laserjet Pro M1217 was exactly what i was looking for. The setup was a little awkward and i still have not gotten it to sync wirelessly but those issues are rather minor compared to the great value and functionality out of the box.
