The A1 features a highly efficient Class D amplifier with low noise, low distortion and high conversion rate due to its differential input level and adjustable negative feedback circuit. When powering the A1 on, it provides built-in protection against overheating and over powering, ensuring long lasting and trouble free operation. I have this attached to my iMac so that I can use non-powered speakers in my studio. Works perfectly! The sound is a little bland...BUT that's because of my Bose speakers NOT the amp. We tried out some heavier speakers that sound perfect on our home system to compare. The better speakers sounded terrific with the FiiO A1. The only thing I wish is that it had terminals for more than 2 speakers. Now I'm sound hungry & want MORE. I also got an RCA/iPod cord so that I can easily play from a visiting friend's iPod straight to the speakers. Very pleased & get to brag about it to my pals!
