The TP-Link 150 Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter allows you to connect a desktop or notebook computer to a wireless network and access a high-speed Internet connection. Compliant with IEEE 802.11n, it provides wireless speeds up to 150 Mbps, which is great for online gaming or video streaming. Using Align TM 1-stream technology based on 802.11n technology, the adapter gives you a more robust wireless signal than existing wireless 802.11g technology can provide. The adapter demonstrates an excellent ability to curb data loss over long distances and through obstacles in a small office or a large apartment--even in a steel-and-concrete building! You can easily pick up the wireless network during long-distance connection, where legacy 11g wireless products may not be able to do so.
Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) technology automatically avoids channel conflicts using its clear channel selection feature, and fully realizes the advantages of channel binding, greatly enhancing wireless performance. As for security, the adapter provides WPA/WPA2 encryptions that are created by the WI-FI Alliance industry group, promoting interpretability and security for WLAN, more effectively and efficiently protecting the wireless network than a WEP encryption.
The adapter's 4 dBi high gain external antenna can be rotated and adjusted in different directions to fit various operation environments, and can bring better performance than the internal antenna. For even more demanding applications, the antenna can be replaced with diverse antennas to show even greater flexibility and wider wireless coverage.
Compatible with WI-FI Protected Setup (WPS), this adapter features Quick Security Setup that allows you to almost instantly setup your security. Just press the "QSS" button and you will automatically establish a WPA2 secure connection. This is not only faster than normal security setups, but also more convenient in that you don't need to remember a password. An included CD with utility helps you complete the software installation and wireless network setup.

The TP-Link works great! It picks-up wireless signals from relatively long distances. I see signals from more than just my two side neighbor's houses: Routers that must be 500 + feet away from my house. Now, it's not that I need free internet from my neighbor's unsecured wireless, but no matter which computer I plug it into, on any floor of the house, it'll pick-up signal without a hitch. For [$]. this thing really rocks! The only drawback is that it takes-up a lot of real estate at the USB plug-in zones. The extra wide footprint eliminates access to the USB ports to the left and right of it but not the ports above and below.

Apart from the obvious reduction you would get in a wireless device, which is barely noticeable. Its a great product, easity install. :)

Comments about TP-Link 150 Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter:
I have a very unreliable Internet connection in my apartment. Sometimes I can't get online for days. I was previously using Iogear's USB GWU523 802.11g/b adapter, which worked well in other settings but didn't cut it in my apartment. Now I consistently get several bars (versus one if I'm lucky) and connect at 54 Mbps (versus 1 Mbps). It detects 20 other networks near my apartment. We're talking the entire floor and several other stories. And the walls are very thick here. Also, it includes a USB extension cord so you can place the adapter closer to your router.

Bought it for a cheap desktop with no wireless capability and it is awesome. It's very simple to install and the Internet now works faster than when I had a high-speed cable modem. I would definitely recommend it- was even compatible with Vista which is a rarity...lol

Comments about TP-Link 150 Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter:
I buy a lot of adapters for friends and family, and I've bought plenty "top-of-the-line" adapters that cost 3-4x the price of this one, but can not even come close to matching the signal strength of these! These totally ignore a solid cement wall between them and the router like it's open air! This is my 1st experience with this particular product so time will tell if the build quality will match the signal quality. I'm definitley buying these from now on.

Comments about TP-Link 150 Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter:
I purchased this adapter so I wouldn't have to run cables across the house. I'm using a desktop with both Windows 7 and Linux. For windows you need to install the driver from the CD, but in Linux it uses the ath9k_htc driver which requires no special configuration.
The external antenna provides a perfect signal even with the router on the opposite side of the house. The problem with the antenna is that it gets in the way of cables when plugged directly into the back panel. I was able to fix this by plugging it into an extension cable.
