Comments about Midland XT511 Base Camp 2-Way Communication Radio with Crank:
I got this and two pair of GRMS radios for emergency. Haven't had an emergency yet but I tested the unit and found it to be easy use, comapact (for easy storage), lightweight and has a bevy of useful features. I especially like the fact I can re-charge my cellphone & GPS with the built in crank generator.
Immediately after trying it I ordered two more base camps as x-mas gifts. I am also recommending to my neighbors and friends that they buy one.
There are probably better radios out there but at this price point I think this one is hard to beat.

Used this while stranded during the hurricane. Didn't use the 2-way radio but otherwise works as advertised.
