The CruiseCam Short Bar Headrest Camera Mount clamps to any twin-post passenger-seat headrest to capture the driver's point of view from inside an automobile. It mounts any compact camcorder (up to 5 lb) via its standard 1/4"-20 screw.

The sturdy clamps are made of die-cast aluminum, and the tubing is anodized extruded aluminum. The mount as a whole is extremely stiff, enabling the capture of high-quality, shake-free video of the vista beyond the windshield.

For all this stability, the mount is easy to assemble in minutes without using any tools.

The 18"-long headrest mount can be adjusted in three dimensions so you can achieve perfect framing. The lightweight, portable mount was developed for professional car-racing applications before being adapted to be used by the rest of us.

        Quality build
        Sturdy mount.
        Does not feel cheap.

Definitely better security than a suction cup mount.

Comments about CruiseCam Short Bar Headrest Camera Mount:

A good idea, but I got a dual feeling about this mount. First - it really works, but the picture is not very stable. Although you cannot expect too much from this mount since the headrest is a shaky enough location in the car. Second - I think it's overpriced. The rubber piece is worthless and I removed it right away. It's very inconvenient to remove your camera every time when you leave your car, even for a second. You have to unscrew it and it rather kills, wears out your camera mount hole and thread. Finally you cannot change the height of the camera and bend it to left-right if you need to. All these limitations can be resolved with this item: Slik SBH-120DQ BALL HEAD w/QUICK RELEASE - SLBH120DQ. But I had to buy it separately, and that doubled the price of the whole mount. Weird! So the whole mount can be estimated as a $80 piece, which is too much. I needed it and that's the only reason why I paid this amount. But that's why I think that the price is too high for this poor design. I have seen similar devices on the Internet for just $20, but they were sold before I ordered. Anyway, if you want to use this mount you need to think about a quick release and something to make it higher, because it is too low if you want to use it in a minivan. Still 4 stars because I can use it.

I normally use this for track days. The camera sits steady, and the material its made out of is sturdy and has a heavy duty feel.

Well made product that will work for me recording video in car. The only gripe is that the strap is pretty much useless. You can also make this bar using parts from [@] (google for instructions) for about 5 bucks. The price gets this product 4 stars instead of 5.

I got this mount for to use with my GoPro camera. I often have to drive really long distances (Chicago to east coast) for work and I like to set up the camera in a time lapse mode then compile it later. The mount is easy to install and i didn't really notice it. For the price it is the best out there.

I used it at the track for a couple HPDE sessions with my Canon point & shoot, in Medium 640x480 mode. Did great! Not too shaky. Next time I may use HiDef mode. Tried it on the street. A bit shakier there, but still very good, especially considering the low price. Saw a similar one on an aftermarket site for twice the price!

Seems well built and I felt the price was very fair. Headrests, especially in the max. height position, have a fair amount of jostle, so don't expect super-stable footage. I'm experimenting with some modification to dampen the vibrations but you won't find a better starting unit than this for the price.

Comments about CruiseCam Short Bar Headrest Camera Mount:

I am a documentary film maker. Got this to show the shot entering the town where the story is located and also to capture the type of road conditions that preceded an accident that is part of the story. I've never used a car support device before. When I was shown the Matthews car package at almost $500 at BH or other much bulkier and complex devices, they were rather pricey for my budget and also not conducive to the need to set up quickly. I looked at and tried other alternatives. This is one with intelligent, simple and solid construction. It takes advantage of a car's head rest pillars which, because they are in the middle of the car and attached to the seat, are not as shaky as a hood of a car or something attached to a window glass. I used it with a Panasonic HMC 40 (a little over 3 lbs. with battery) which is one of the smallest pro cameras so it is an ideal size and the image was beautiful. But aside from the devices own nice function, you need to also consider how good and the type of optical stabilization you camera has. This pro Panasonic worked beautifully but not quite a good was my very small consumer Sanyo which is my most guerilla alternative with weaker stabilization. You can use it left or right mounted so you can go to the far passenger side and capture the driver and background facing into the car or can get it right between the two front seats facing forward or back. Depending how you zoom, you can get a pure road feel giving the appearance of a real hood mounted camera (assuming you have a clear clean windshield and no light/shadow issues) or pan back a bit to capture the dash and steering wheel feel to give you are in the car. I could not be more pleased with the quality, price and good construction as a support for a camera probably up to 5ish pounds. I haven't tried it on my heavier Panasonic HMC 150 or AF 100.
