This product has a good bit of bang for the buck. Coupled with some plugins, the preamps in this interface give me a good quality sound for my demo projects. The only issue I have, thus far, is with the gain. You have to crank it up almost to its maximum to get a signal and there isn't much headroom between it and hissing.
Overall, this is a great starter interface to learn the basics of recording and your DAW of choice.

I bought this to capture Additional Dialogue Recording and also interpret a MIDI keyboard to complete post-production on a low-budget film.
This is what you need to know if you're wary about having to turn the gain all the way up all the time:
"It is normal for M-Audio preamps to need to have the gain dial turn almost all of the way up to get a strong mic signal. This is because the M-Audio preamp is designed to accommodate a large range of possible input sources."
"Unlike a lot of other preamps, the M-Audio does not introduce a lot of noise by being turned up that high. This is because, of the amount of gain being done is the same as other preamps; the gain scaling of the potentiometer is different.
If you are going to use a stand-alone preamp, get a good one. Cheap stand-alone preamps are not much better than the ones built into the interface."

When I opened up the box I was a little skeptical because of the size of the interface, but as soon as I set everything up I could tell I had made a good investment. The quality is awesome, everything sounds clear. The interface is compact and very light weight. I do not regret buying this at all.

I use this as part of a very simple home recording setup for guitar alone. Probably overkill for what I need, in fact I'm sure it is. But the item itself offers a lot of adjustment and is built very well.

Has great sounding preamps for such a small package. Definitely the best price I found anywhere and I checked all the big names, Musicians Friend, Sweetwater, Zzounds, etc. A must buy for any Musician wanting to start their own studio!

I use it with pro tools m powered 8 to record guitars vocals live drums and bass. It's great for the price and portable. Having only 2 inputs is a bummer but it gets the job done.

I've only had the fast track pro now for a week, but I've been real happy so far. It was simple to set up with the macbook pro using garageband. I didn't even bother with the pro tools software. It takes about thirty minutes to aquaint yourself with the all the settings and is easy to use once thats all sorted out. So far I would recommend this product.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB Interface with Pro Tools SE Software:
I use the product to produce music, edit music, capture audio, and mix audio. I really love the simplicity of it and the ease of use. I don't love having to have the fast track pro with me when I turn on the software. It isn't perfect and doesn't have all of the capabilities one would love to have, but it does what it was designed to do.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB Interface with Pro Tools SE Software:
First off...this thing is plastic and gives you the impression that it's some kind of fisher price toy. Secondly, it just plain [*]...only one channel out worked on mine...there is no software interface like on most decent soundcards..and since I waited a month before I got time to set it up...I lost my chance to send it back. I've owned at least 6 M-audio cards, now I'm considering never buying another M-audio card again after this.
