Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad X120e 0596-2RU 11.6" Notebook Computer (Matte Black):
I use this notebook for travel and as a back up for my macbook. With that said, I would have no problem using this one as a primary computer either. It's loaded with ports and it works well when using multiple apps at once. The only drawback is that it's processor isn't the quickest if you're doing larger processes, like media management, etc. Even to just run the most basic functions I went ahead and doubled the memory as soon as I recieved it, so now I'm running 8 GB. I would recommend that anyone who decides to purchase this model consider expanding the memory first. All in all, a really good product for the considerably low price tag.

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad X120e 0596-2RU 11.6" Notebook Computer (Matte Black):
I'd place this laptop on the high end of the netbook performance spectrum. You can definitely tell that it's only a netbook when you try to do computation heavy tasks like effect-transformations of photos, but it keeps up just fine with multi task web-surfing/music/word-processing.
I have a ThinkPad which costs 4x as much, and was pleased to find the same build quality was put into this model. It is sturdy, has a good wi-fi antenna, pretty decent speakers, good battery life, a sharp and bright screen, a spacious keyboard, and Lenovo's fantastic little red trackpoint. The yellow USB port charges even when the computer is turned off, a feature which fits well with the netbook lifestyle. I wish that there was a better grip for opening the screen; the bottom edge of the trackpad buttons seem to always catch my fingers when I open it.
I got this for a girlfriend to take to grad school. (She did things to her old Windows laptop which made me cringe, and it had finally gone belly-up.) I installed Ubuntu alongside Windows7, and, with a little tweaking, it runs perfect. A number of people have had trouble with the Ubuntu install:the Grub2 boot-loader doesn't install, and must be reinstalled afterwards by booting Ubuntu "live" and installing Grub2 into the drive partition which contains your Ubuntu files. You can find out how to do this on the Grub2 Community Ubuntu Documentation section on "Copy LiveCD Files".

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad X120e 0596-2RU 11.6" Notebook Computer (Matte Black):
I will compare this ThinkPad netbook to Acer One 722, which has an AMD C-60 CPU. Same size screen, faster hard drive, faster CPU, faster GPU... Fills pretty zippy. Keyboard is OK as far as netbooks go, but not as good, as full size Lenovo notebooks. It is heavier, then Acer. The SD card slot is not as convinient, as in Acer: the card sticks out to much. The screen is matte (Acer-gloss), which I like better. The resolution is OK fot netbook. Viewing angles are the usual fare for netbooks. The battery protrudes about 1 inch from the back, but I don't mind. The web camera is 0.3 M, could be better, could be worse: in low light the picture is good to the point, then in no light it works just as any other web camera. The microphone works well for services like Skype. The speakers are at the bottom front, they could be a bit louder, but combined Headphone/Mic works well. The battery life is better, then Acer's. It has Lenovo's signature PrackPoint, which is a main reason for me to choose this netbook over any other. The bottom line: I like it for what it is.

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad X120e 0596-2RU 11.6" Notebook Computer (Matte Black):
This is a great middle of the road laptop/netbook for a great price.
Light and long lasting battery like a netbook, but able to handle multitasking without any slowdown like a laptop. The main selling points on this one for me were the 7,200rpm hard drive (5,400 is a bigger bottle neck for day-today stuff than most would think) and the excellent keyboard.
Most netbooks come with mediocre keyboards which are fine for people who won't do a lot of typing on them. For someone who needs to get some amount of work done on the go, a good keyboard is a must, and this one does not disappoint. Good travel, great tactile feel, these key are not "squishy" like a lot of others I tried.
*Also has a spill-proof keyboard, that I have yet to test, but that's a plus in case you may be worried.
Also speaking on the keyboard, there is a little discrepancy in that the CTRL and Fn keys are switched. However in the BIOS you can "switch" them back, makes touch typing a lot easier having the CTRL key in the extreme bottom left.
The AMD E-350 is a great little processor, and the on board ATI HD6310 handles a lot more than I expected. Easily play a lot of games on low settings with good frame rates, unless your expecting crysis to run without issue, you will be impressed with what you can throw at this. So don't worry about throwing a few games on here to keep you busy.
Another surprise is the WiFi reception on here, I've easily gained two bars at the local coffee spot. Apparently as others have noted, the larger bezel around the screen is due to the space needed for duel antennas on board.
The hardware overall is great, responsive keyboard, good amount of processing power for keeping multiple tabs open along with a couple other programs.
I highly recommend this laptop/netbook for anyone who doesn't care about "consumer aesthetics", but needs an almost-ultrabook power to weight ratio, at a netbook price.

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad X120e 0596-2RU 11.6" Notebook Computer (Matte Black):
I bought this laptop because it was suggested as an alternative to buying the Macbook Air which is more than 2x the price.
This laptop is light and easy to use on the go! The processing power is good and the specs are outstanding for such a small notebook with 4GB of RAM and 64bit Windows. I had some issues with Windows but that is expected.
The extended battery is really nice for longer charges but is sticks out and the performance seems to be much less than the est. 6hrs. I feel it gives 3-4hrs but not based on close observation.
I really don't like the really small track pad and I was never fond of the red mouse button in the center of the keyword which is signature to IBM.
The video card is outstanding as I get FULL resolution on a 22" external monitor when I connect through the VGA or HDMI!
I still would have liked to buy a Macbook Air but at less than half the price this was a GREAT value!
Comes with Windows 7 Pro but no Windows Office (except for a sample version of Excel & Word)

This is a very nice notebook. I specifically did not say netbook.
The keyboard is extremely well designed. It has a very sturdy feel.
This form factor is a winner. Light, small, fast enough for everyday tasks.
Will definitely try Ubuntu on it (hopefully I can dual boot it with windows).
The price at B&H is also hard to beat, especially since I didn't have to pay sales tax nor shipping.
The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is becaus the included battery is on the heave side. The overall weight of the package is acceptable, but it would be great if they could shrink the battery and make it lighter.
The Dual core AMD CPU has plenty of power. 720p videos look great on this little machine

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad X120e 0596-2RU 11.6" Notebook Computer (Matte Black):
This laptop is exactly what I'd hoped it would be. Small - light - powerful & a real TP keyboard. Struggled with buying another Windows machines with a disk drive -- vs. -- a tablet. But my inventory of programs - travel info - plus office productivity software ... just didn't compare. So Win7 it is .. and very happy .. once customized for easier navigation. OpenOffice gives full excel&doc compatibility -- and a real keyboard makes creating and maintaining highly productive. Weight was a key decision factor - 3.3 lbs .. with 6 cell battery -- provides 6-7 hours of use (haven't tested full duration) but certainly longer than I've ever needed in the past. Fits easily in travel backpack and size is good for airplane use too. 11.6" screen size obviously is better than any tablet plus easy to connect to external monitor when at home office.
2 things that surprised me..
1. The cursor movement keys have been changed so there isn't a page back & page forward button rather they put in page up - page down -- not very useable in my experience. Would much prefer the old buttons which allowed web navigating without moving hands.
2. There aren't volume control / mute buttons!
No biggie the function is available via Fn+F1 Fn+F2 or Fn+Esc -- and the Functions on those keys I never used ... so easier this way ... Fn+F4 F5 F7 and F12 were the high use items and they all remained the same standard Thinkpad functions yea.
Good price - though likely paid more than needed - since machine was replaced -- suspect remaining inventory will be discounted for clearance. Chose to purchase x120e versus the new x130e mainly due to increased weight of new machine ... and didn't need the 'hardening' which caused the weight gain.
B&H Order process and delivery were exceptional. Order to receipt - with free regular shipping was 5 days - with the weekend. Arrived on day expected - well packed/protected very pleased.

I decided to buy it based on reviews of others on the web about this product. It turns out that it is true that the system is fast, keyboard is comfortable, no surprises. I do noticed a slightly weaker wireless signal in local library comparing to my old lenovo. But that doesn't bother me at all.
by the way the ship is fast! overall I am satisfied with this buy.

I use this for graduate school - perfect sized ample keyboard, plenty of memory and storage. No need anymore for an optical device - you can map another drive on your network to add programs, or buy a good, simple USB RW DVD for $26.
I don't like the Lenovo software included - I deleted it and added Norton 360 since I had a license left from my other laptop.
Crisp graphics, fast processor, very good value. I don't even need to add a mouse - the built in touchpad on this Thinkpad is much better than the other Lenovos I have. I shopped around a lot before choosing, and I have no buyer's remorse. B&H had the lowest price, no hassles. Would recommend this to anyone who needs a great machine at a very reasonable price!

This laptop was purchased for a long-term trip. It is fairly slow. However, its low weight, 5 hour battery life, and affordable price make up for it. It also has an excellent keyboard, matte screen and body, and 3 physical mouse buttons. Another pleasant surprise was the clean desktop on bootup - no bloatware!

I already did the research before buying this computer and i am very satisfied. the only reason i did not give it 5 stars was because of the screen. i love the matte screen's non reflective qualities, but the resolution/contrast ratio is not the best. but for business purposes it works perfect for what i use it for.

I use the x120e for long hours each day for writing, web surfing, and occasional video streaming. I've only had it for a week. The portability is fantastic. Doesn't overheat. The keyboard and screen feel great.
Did have some issues with speed. Not sure if it was because I was working on the same google doc with 5 other people in a place with semi-strong internet connection. Had to restart browers a few times. So I'll wait to judge on that.
I still think it's a great deal given the low price. Perfect for students and travelers.
