The Sony PRS-T1 Wi-Fi Reader (White) has a number of things going for it, not the least of which is its Wi-Fi connectivity. Supported browsers include IE, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. Another great aspect of this feature is access to the public library for wireless lending. EPUB, PDF, and Text formats are all supported - whether the books are transferred to the device wirelessly or not.

In contrast to its predecessor, the PRS-T1 is lighter and smaller, making it easier to carry wherever you go. The 6" screen also provides the option to use two fingers when navigating the touch screen. This feature allows you to utilize scroll, rotate, pinch open and close, and secondary right click functions. Of course you can still choose to use the included stylus for navigation or hand writing. Using the buttons at the bottom of the screen is an option as well. Additionally, a quick response virtual keyboard is at your disposal.

When it comes to the actual reading, the PRS-T1 features what Sony calls a "natural experience" display that's easy on the eyes. The E Ink Pearl E-Paper mimics real paper, which allows you to read as long as you wish. And with the long-life battery that lasts up to a month - with the wireless turned off - you can do just that! Having enough reading material to last that long isn't an issue either. The PRS-T1 allows for content purchasing and sharing from the Sony Reader Store, other tethered and wireless devices you own, the public library, and online aggregators.

I have wanted an e-reader for a while now, and it came down to the kindle and this. The cheap version of the kindle is subsidized by advertisements, so when you put it on sleep you get an ugly ad, this on the other hand displays the cover art of your book, awesome! This device also has support for epub, something kindle lacks. Many ebooks come in the epub format so if you want to read them on the kindle you would have to convert it to mobi. Everything about this device is perfect; the screen is sharp, its shape is beautiful, it is light and compact. The battery lasts around 15 hours of being on, so if you read thirty minutes a day you would be all set for a month with just one charge(most e-readers advertise a month of battery but it really depends on use). And for the icing on the cake... You can install kindle on this device! Just google it and you will find the steps. The process also allowed me to read Japanese language epubs as well(It wasn't reading them correctly before for some reason). So if you buy a lot of e-books from [@], this is comparable, if not better, than the Kindle. Also, there is a micro SD slot which lets you add a ton of storage; I put in and extra 32GB in addition to the 2GB it comes with! It can also play music, but I haven't used it for that yet. I am a student and next semester I plan to buy textbooks in electronic form if possible ;) all in all, awesome device.

I like this e-reader because I'm French and it's easy for me, when I'm reading an english novel,to use the dictionaries and to note the vocabulary.
It's quick and easy to switch pages.

A very good product but it could suffer some improvements too.

First, the settings are not kept, and I have to select things every time I close it.

Then, when you have many books, you have to go through every pages or type a complete name. Typing the first letter of a name won't do it.If you have a lot of pages, it buggs, and close.

The browser definitly needs improvement.

The great point is that you can use PDF forms, so you can read and study too.

I'm looking forward downloading your next software.

Sorry for my english, it needs some improvements.
Have a nice day

Comments about Sony PRS-T1 Wi-Fi Reader (White):

The browser and Wi-Fi work great for connecting to your local library.

Must activate/use Adobe Digital Editions so you can download protected books. One off activation. If you have an Adobe account use the same email address.

I use with 'Calibre' - E-book software. The includer 'Reader for PC' software is on the reader and installs first time you connect to Computer. I use Calibre as I use 'sourced' e-books.

Only fault is no where to put the stlyis.

This is my first E_Book reader and it's a nice experience. The only problem for this e-reader is the price, if you buy it from outside US (i.e. in Italy the cost is [$] which is not justified). Luckly I bouught it via B&H so I have now a great reader at a correct price.

this is my first ebook reader, i have received it for a month, and i read it everyday, it is an excellent reader!

the prs-t1 is a nice-looking, very light and easy to use model.
Read the pdf file is very smooth, but epub not as good as pdf file.

the effect of the screen displays isn't as good as I saw in the videos.
It has a stylus, which is fun to use, although I purchased a sony Reader Wi-Fi Cover With Light , I still can not find a place to store it.

I am very happy with my purchase. Every day I use it and like it more and more.
B&H also had a great deal on this thing which was shipped out on time express for only a few bucks more than the free shipping.

Comments about Sony PRS-T1 Wi-Fi Reader (White):

After reading multiple reviews, I decided upon the new Sony PRS-T1 (this is coming from someone who recently purchased a Kindle as well). I am incredibly happy with the form factor, sleek design, and the weight (or lack thereof).

I am happy that I chose it in white, as the black tends to show fingerprints and smudges a little more than the white model. There is no glare form the screen, even in direct light, and syncing up books with the Sony Reader software is very easy. If you're used to using Calibre, it is also possible to stick with what you know and sync it up via Calibre.

The WiFi worked speedily and without hassle via my local WiFi router.

I also suggest NOT necessarily buying the proprietary Sony fake leather case, but rather go for something like the 6 inch "Built" brand pouches (they are available from B&H). The 6" Built pouch specifically fits the Sony PRS-T1 like a glove, and is just an all-round better choice than the Sony proprietary cover (in my opinion).

I can definitely recommend this product, and I am totally happy with my purchase.

Also, I am currently living in Seoul, South Korea, and B&H managed to ship this item to me in less than 2 days. I was very impressed with their rapid international shipping.

The WIFI connection is good enough, but I seldom use wifi connection. The weight is great to be easily held in one hand. A very good device!

Comments about Sony PRS-T1 Wi-Fi Reader (White):

The Sony Prs-t1 is an excellent reader! It has all the features an ereader should have! There are two things I would change the turn page buttons on the left, move them to the right and a setting for contrast. Other than that, perfect....am sad to let go of my Prs-550.

This was the first ebook reader in the family, so I can't
compare it to other models. It is a nice-looking, easy to use model. It works with Linux as well.

Great screen quality, great battery life, good web brouser. Very friendly and stable software, especially after the latest Sony firmware loaded.

Comments about Sony PRS-T1 Wi-Fi Reader (White):

I had PRS-300 and PRS-650 before. This one is very light and quite compact compared to my PRS-650 despite it has the same 6-inch display.
Display is the same as in PRS-650 and it's prefect. Contrast enough. not glossy. It's really a pleasure to read from it.
Multitouch was added in this model. Now it's much more convenient to read PDFs. Scaling is now faster. So, T1 is more suitable for reading of technical books than previous models. Though heavily formatted PDFs can still be quite slow and in extreme cases they can be unreadable.
One more con is glossy frame. Didn't use it on a sunny day yet (it's winter in Russia :)) but I think it can be a problem with some angles. Most of the time you can change your position a bit and reflections won't bother you that much.
Also the body is now plastic. It's not such a pleasure to hold it compared to matted cool metal of PRS-650. But if you use a cover it doesn't matter that much.
A few words about WiFi. It works) Browser is good enough. I can say WiFi is a good addition. It can be useful in long trips. You can read news or download a book if you have nothing left to read.
Dictionaries are the same as in PRS-650. American and British Oxford and a few European languages. Nothing more is needed for most people.

To sum up. Very nice reader for its price. But, you have glossy and plastic body instead of matted metal. Most of the cons are for its look and feel and not for its qualities as a reading device. And it's a SONY still. But not as SONY as PRS-650.

Comments about Sony PRS-T1 Wi-Fi Reader (White):

I've purchased this device for a friend of mine who's never used an ereader before.

                              Pros:
                              - The device is very small and light (esp. comparing to my PRS-900).
                              - The screen is similar to the previous models which is great since it's perfect.
                              - The touchscreen is very sensetive and precise.
                              - The menu is well-organised.
                              - Built in 3G and Wi-Fi.
                              - Build in dictionaries (esp. users who study foreign languages).

                              Cons:
                              - plastic body
                              - the glare of the front panel (not screen!)
                              - lack of an AC chareger in the box.

Overall, the device is well worth snapping it up!
