Comments about Harbor Digital Design XT Flash Extender Kit (Canon 580EX II, Yongnuo YN 560, 560II, 565):
I am a bird photographer and need to have light extended onto my subjects, as many of them are at a considerable distance; despite using a long lense. This unit fullfils the needs it is designed for. Coupled with a Canon 580 EX II gun, there is nice lattitude to control the beam. Placing the light on a smaller area (subject only) allows for more pleasing images where fill flash is needed to enhance an image while not compromising the ambient light; again his unit works well. The construction is perfect. I've owned another unit (I will not give the name of the product) that have a frame that holds the fresnel lense, but leaves the top and bottom open. This allows the sun the focus through the lens and cause burning of my lense covers. On the other hand, light comment in from the front gets focused on the flash gun, and has cause some melting of the casing of gun, could easily have lead to damage. All these problems are eliminated nicely by having the entire assembly sealed; there will be no leaking of sun-light onto the camera equipment. Out of the box, it mounts quite easily; fits snug, and is light. The big pluss is in saving expensive flash guns. Worht the expense.
