The Digigear Extreme SD-HC-XC to CF Adapter is a Type II memory card adapter ready for SD 3.0. It can support the new exFAT file system on Windows OS. This adapter is also equipped with high-speed CF interface and the access rate is faster than virtually any similar products. The SDXCF supports converting SDHC, SD, miniSD (with adapter), microSD (with adapter), MMC, RS-MMC (with adapter), and even the next generation SD 3.0 card with exFAT file system to Type II CF. Equipped with the high-speed CF interface, this adapter will not slow down the access rate of the inserted media, but will also not accelerate it.
The SDXCF is compatible with many digital devices equipped with a CF Type II socket, including select UDMA digital cameras and DSLR's, PDA's, digital photo frames, card readers, notebooks and more! Get the power of an SD card in your digital devices. The adapter supports the Windows 7, Vista, XP, Mac OS and Linux operating systems.
The adapter is only compatible with the following UDMA cameras: Canon EOS 7D, EOS 1D Mark IV and EOS 1Ds Mark III (both of which have Eye-Fi capability already, so the adapter is not necessary), EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 50D, Nikon D3X, Sony Alpha DSLR-A900, A850 and A350

This item was sold together with an Eye-Fi card (8GB Pro) by B&H, but this combination (UDMA adaptor + Eye-Fi) is only theoretical. The shielding of the adaptor makes the GPS function unworkable and the 7D camera I am using has issues with the combo (hard to trace this back to either component), write errors, card content unreadable either from the camera in some instances, etc...). The direct mode of Eye-Fi did not work, probably the shielding again. It is somewhat deceptive to propose a combo that has obviously not been tested, or that should bear some warning such as "may not work for all cameras" or the likes. The adaptor on its own with a standard SD card works fine, so I can't incriminate this item in that respect.

My new Dell computer has a card reader but not for CF cards. But my digital SLR camera only uses CF or XD memory. I bought this adaptor so that I can use an SD card in the camrea and it works great!

With this adapter, I'm able to use versatile 32GB SD-HC cards in my older Sony DSC-F828 which only uses CF/Memory Sticks, rather than having to buy new high-capacity CF cards. 8000+ 8MP images per card lets me shoot to my heart's content on a two-week vacation.

Comments about DigiGear Extreme SD-HC-XC to CF Adapter:
Daunted by the price of some of the fastest Compact Flash cards, I wanted to try this out. It was as simple as pushing the SD card into a card reader. With a Class 10 SD card, I have not noticed any lag when shooting on my Canon 7D. It can shoot multiple frames at full speed as fast as the CF card. With SD memory around half the price of CF or less, I'll not be buying another CF card.

I'm happy to have this adapter in my bag. I got it to use with the Eye-fi card, and it worked fine. It also expands my capabilities now by allowing me to use any SD card, which I think will come in handy.

If you have lots of SD cards this is totally worth it.
Newer cameras (like the Canon 5D mk3) take SD cards now. There's no point in investing in CF cards. I use this for my 7D which only takes CF.

I cannot believe they would make an adapter that cannot be inserted into any CF slot I have known (Card reader/ Camera/ Desktop)... so where is it supposed to work?
Since It is too fat to fit anywhere... I cannot test performance.. useless.

Worked well with wireless Eye-fi card. No problems with unit blocking the wireless signal so far. This may vary depending on your camera type.

Comments about DigiGear Extreme SD-HC-XC to CF Adapter:
Shooting 5D on the fly it is great to be able to pop out the SD card and upload directly into my MacBook Pro - takes a step out of the workflow since Macs don't have CF slots. I would not use this device on a super-critical project because there's no doubt I'm compromising performance, but it's nice to have one less piece of equipment in my bag when I go to a shoot...

All I did was slide the SDXC in the slot and it works like a charm. Could not ask for anything better.

Comments about DigiGear Extreme SD-HC-XC to CF Adapter:
I tried it in my Canon-20D with a 32GB SDHC card. If the card was formatted outside the camera, I was able to see the full 32GB. When I tried to format it inside the camera, it only showed 8GB. It is probably the camera limitation and not the adapter. It is a great help to be able to use SD cards from other devices in case my CF fills up.

I had a chance to use this card on assignment and was uploading images live. It worked well in my 5D. It does, however, get a little warm after continued use or while you upload images to the computer through a card reader.

I was initially worried about transfer speed while shooting continuous RAW with my 5D Mark II. The CF Adapter performed well.

Used with wireless card and 5dmk2. No problems, works great.
If you understand the trade off of speed, limited range, and the fact that it does get a bit toasty you should be good.
Heat only happens when transferring mountains of data. For regular use, its really nothing.
I only pulled off one side of the metal. Top side with the green sticker. This helps cooling. I left the bottom side as a heat sink.
I consider this to be part of my fun setup. I use it for photography that is slow paced. Art replication, hair, jewelry, and some fashion.
I would never use this for anything super serious or for something fast paced with limited time frame. Although the adapter might be ok and not overheat I don't trust it in conjunction with my wireless card. Consider this a fun toy.

Comments about DigiGear Extreme SD-HC-XC to CF Adapter:
Use this to mount SDHC in my 7D - I have a ton of SD media since all my other cameras run on that. Using 10 speed SD in the adapter works great for shooting video - The adapter keeps up. It does add some heat to the equation... So you'd have to watch for that having overheat as a general problem for extended shoots on the 7D. But until I use it in the summer, I can't tell if it will actually make a difference.
I get the impression that the adapter slows down the memory speed a bit. But that might be a bottleneck for 10 speed that might not be at 6 speed. Don't have slower SD so I can't test.

Bought this so I could use my Lexar FW800 CF card reader to read SDHC cards and I would be able to use my SDHC cards on my Canon 5D2
The second time using this, it will not mount to my Mac and the reader will freeze. I can only use this with my USB reader. The Lexar reader works fine with other CF.
The good thing is I can use this on my Canon 5D2 and also use my SDHC cards on my Vixia HF M40.

The CF cards are not as available in Retail Stors as are the SD cards. I bought this so that if I needed to aquire another card there should be no problem finding one at just about any store that has camera equipment. I have only tested it briefly and it seems to work just fine. Great price!

Comments about DigiGear Extreme SD-HC-XC to CF Adapter:
I used the Extreme CF Adapter in two compact flash readers that I own. One reader got 2.5 megabytes per second transfers and the other got 5 megabyte per second transfers. I bought a Lexar Professional Usb3.0 Dual Slot Reader. Plugged it into a Usb 2.0 slot and I am now getting between 20 to 30 megabytes per second. Much better to spend the money on a better card reader (10 times faster throughput).
