The Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS Digital Camera is more than a fun point-and-shoot. While it's slim, brightly colored, and easy to use, the ELPH 310 HS is also a versatile companion, allowing you to step outside the basic for unlimited creative potential. And it all starts with the 12.1Mp CMOS sensor for stunning still images and quality 1080p HD videos.
Canon's HS SYSTEM puts those powerful 12.1 megapixels at your disposal with the marriage of the CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 4 Image Processor. The processor not only puts files onto your memory card quickly and efficiently, it also expands the ISO range up to 3200, adjusting to even low-light situations for blur-free images. The sensor, as previously mentioned, helps you capture impressive still or video files.
The ELPH 310 HS employs various features to help you make the most of each situation. For instance, the 8x optical zoom lets you capture far-off subjects without a loss in image quality. Optical image stabilization works to prevent blur and motion. The 3.0" PureColor LCD is a large platform on which to compose and review your images. And of course, the 28-224mm (35mm equivalent) lens gives you a wide range of zooming to shoot it all: group shots, landscapes, buildings, etc.
When it comes to the HD video function of the 310 HS, this camera does more than simply record. Video is recorded at 1920 x 1080p high definition at 24 frames per second, among other various resolutions. A dedicated Movie Button helps you start shooting video faster too, without having to search through menus. Other special features for video capture include a wind filter and optical zoom while shooting for higher-quality recordings. The ELPH 310 HS also features iFrame Movie Support by allowing you to shoot in Apple's iFrame format for compatibility with both Mac and Windows applications.
Normal: Corrects for a wide range of camera movement when shooting stills
Panning: Panning motion is detected so that IS does not interfere with desired camera movement
Hybrid: Corrects for shift-type camera shake, which typically occurs in macro (close-up) shooting
Dynamic: Effective for video shooting at wide-angle focal lengths, eliminating the unwanted shaking that typically occurs while walking
Powered: Compensates for hand movement when shooting video at the telephoto end of the zoom range, where camera shake is magnified
Tripod: When tripod use is detected, the Image Stabilizer is stopped because it is not needed
Program: Access advanced exposure compensation features while shooting mostly automatically
Movie Digest: Records a video clip before capturing a still image and then combines one day's worth of clips into a video
Low Light: For high quality image capture in an amazing range of dimly-lit situations
Portrait: The camera sets a large aperture, focusing the subject and artistically blurring the background to make your subject "pop"
Kids & Pets: Reduced focusing time freezes fast-moving subjects, so you won't miss those special shots
Smart Shutter: The camera automatically takes the photo when people smile, wink, or get into frame
High-Speed Burst: The camera shoots continuously at a high speed while you hold down the shutter
Best Image Selection: The camera takes five photos in succession, and then chooses the best one out of the bunch
Handheld Night Scene: Suppresses image blur even without the help of a tripod
Super Vivid: Super Vivid intensifies existing hues, saturating the scene with bright colors
Color Accent: Choose to retain a single color in your image while other colors turn monochrome
Color Swap: Select a color and replace it with a color you specify for special effects
Beach: Get clear shots of people at a sunny beach without darkened faces
Foliage: Capture brilliant shots of autumn foliage, greenery and blossoms
Snow: Shoot clear snow scenes without darkened subjects or an unnatural bluish tint
Fireworks: Grab brilliant images of skyrocketing fireworks
Stitch Assist: Build awe-inspiring panoramas by neatly aligning sequential images
Long Shutter: Use to blur moving subjects for artistic effect, ideal for urban night photography
Fisheye Effect: Add a classic photo distortion without a fisheye lens
Miniature Effect: Create an illusion where very large objects appear in miniature proportions
Toy Camera Effect: Simulates photos taken with "toy" or pinhole cameras, darkening the image at the edges to create a vignette effect
Monochrome: Choose from three single-tone effects: Black-and-White, Sepia, or Blue
Poster Effect: Poster Effect combines several similar shades into one color, turning subtle gradations into eye-catching, scene-popping contrasts
iFrame Movie: The Apple movie format, iFrame, makes it easier and quicker to import and upload videos while retaining high image quality
Super Slow Motion Movie: Record your clips in high (approximately 240 fps), and then watch your videos in slow motion
How does this work? When you activate Movie Digest, the camera continuously records a "loop" of video up to 4 seconds long into an area of the memory card reserved for this feature. Every time you take a still photo, the video clip residing in memory at that time is appended to a file that will eventually become the day's highlights video. The following day, the camera will start a new video file. Movie Digest does not affect regular video shooting, so you can use it and still switch between still and video capture as desired.
Although the beauty of Movie Digest is the ease with which you can create a video of the day, you can, if you wish, edit the created videos on your computer. Version 6.8 or later of the included ZoomBrowser EX (for Windows) and ImageBrowser (for Mac OS) software lets you freely select and delete unwanted scenes from your Movie Digest videos

Comments about Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS Digital Camera (Purple):
This is my third PowerShot ELPH camera, I bought the ELPH 310 HS as an upgrade. I've only read the short printed guide that comes with the camera and that was enough to start taking pictures and video of my daughters, I'm happy so far with the camera's ease of use and the quality of the pictures and video. I need to read the PDF that comes in the DVD so I can really take advantage of all the fancy features, but so far I'm as happy with this camera as I've been with my previous PowerShot ELPH cameras.

Comments about Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS Digital Camera (Purple):
This is my favorite camera ever! It is small, light weight and purple! The photos are fabulous. It is also user friendly for those of us who don't like to read manuals. It zooms so easy and so far. I love it. It also has a larger screen than my previous camera which makes more difference than I thought it would. I love the little focus square that helps me to center my photo for a perfect shot. I could go on but space is limited. My advice: buy one!

Comments about Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS Digital Camera (Purple):
Just took this camera on a trip to DC. Was able to take amazing photos indoors without the flash. I am very impressed with the low-light capabilities. Have always liked canon cameras and this is my third powershot model. All the functionality of the older models is still present, and new features abound -- more than I could hope to use. Getting used to the menus took a bit, but overall I am quite impressed with the camera. My only complaint is the wrist strap doesn't have that little plastic slider to make it tight around your wrist. Why on earth would canon change to a cheaper wrist strap? I had to buy a better one online.

I bought this camera along with a Canon SLR camera to take on vacation with me to Africa and I was extremely pleased with this amazing little camera. Afterwards I felt like I hadn't really needed to lug the SLR camera all the way to Africa because this little camera was able to capture far more shots then I could get with my SLR camera with its basic limited lens.
What makes this camera the perfect all rounder:
Small and compact - it fits into my handbag quite easily
Exceptional zoom capability
Great horizontal view ability
Really good video ability
The battery life was very good too

I bought this for my wife to use. she didn't even read the instruction manual when I gave it to her, she just started playing around with the camera and now she's a pro. The pictures are better than some of my expensive DSLR's. With the one button for video it makes for easy kid video's. It's a great price for a handy simple camera. she loves the purple color!

Comments about Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS Digital Camera (Purple):
This camera is small and powerful. It is available in different colors - I chose purple so I can always pick mine out of the pile of silver ones on the table at any family event. It tucks easily into my purse so I can always have it with me.
The only feature that I dislike is that I have to use the function selector and dig for the delete button. On previous Canon's that I owned, I could do it directly on the back of the camera.

Comments about Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS Digital Camera (Purple):
I bought this camera because I was looking for something that was compact, that I could take with me day to day, to take pictures of my kids.
The biggest problem I have had in the past with cameras is they were slow, and I wanted something that would catch the picture before the shot was missed. This camera does it. Not only does it start up fast, but if you turn the review off you can basically take continuous shots.
I really don't know much about cameras, so I am not qualified to say whether this camera is the best one out there, but I do know that in the small amount of time I have had it, I haven't missed any shots.

Bought this camera for my wife, she loves that it is purple. It takes great pictures, we have a Canon DSLR, and this camera could pretty much replace it 99% of the time for a fraction of the price. The artsy modes (color replace, toy camera, etc...) are cool and fun to play with. Low light pictures are better than any digital camera I have ever used. HD video recording is definitely a plus!

Comments about Canon PowerShot ELPH 310 HS Digital Camera (Purple):
My original camera was a Canon Powershot S3Is...used for many years. Recently I read that Annie Lebowitz thought how the Iphone was useful as a "snapshot" camera. I wanted something similar that was small and I could just drop in my bag. The Powershot was getting heavy and bulky for quick shots. I decided on the Elph 310 and love it. Screen is bright and clear and does all and more that my Powershot does.I had to get used to the lighter feeling of the Elph but I soon adjusted. I also miss the rotating screen of my Powershot but I have adjusted. If you want a great pocket size digital camera...give the Elph a try. I love mine!

I've used a Canon Rebel XSi for a couple years but wanted something easier to tote around on a daily basis. This camera is fantastic. It's small but powerful. Takes great pictures. Has quick turnaround between shots, unlike a previous point-and-shoot I had. Pictures turn out sharp. Very happy with this purchase!
