The 4 x 4" PROSTOP Neutral Density 3.0 Filter for the Lee Filter Holder from Hitech is used when you need something to reduce your exposure by 10 stops. This unique and powerful filter will now permit you to easily "blur" images such as moving water, cars, sports and other subjects. The effect of this filter permits you to use much slower shutter speeds as well as wider lens apertures to help isolate your foreground.
You can even combine this filter with other filters such as graduated neutral density filters to achieve additional special effects. The 4 x 4" format gives you the freedom to use the PROSTOP 3.0 with many different lenses. The PROSTOP Neutral Density Filter is made to exacting standards. It's 1.5 mm thick and fits the Lee Filter System. It is best used for outdoor, nature and location photography. The PROSTOP is designed with a special rubber gasket surrounding the filter edges to help prevent any ambient light from intruding into the image.
The Hitech filter system is made by Formatt - an English company that is renowned for its high manufacturing standards and consistency of quality. Their CR39 resin is manufactured in large sheets that are oven cured. Their exclusive Absorbing Cell Technology absorbs color as opposed to other filters that are coated. Once cured, they are sliced up to create individual filters. In this way, maximum consistency is maintained from filter to filter. This becomes crucial when you wish to change filters either mid shoot or from day to day.

Comments about Hitech 4 x 4" PROSTOP Neutral Density 3.0 Filter for the Lee Filter Holder:
Bought this for a trip to photograph waterfalls and ocean surf. Although it has a fairly strong blue cast, this can be easily corrected in post.
Wanted to get the glass version from another manufacturer, but there is a months-long wait for them. This is a decent substitute.
We actually bought 2 of these, and both have a slight curve to them. When put in the Lee holder, the curve is not an issue. Fitting it into the Lee holder the first several times was somewhat of a chore, but as time goes by it gets easier as the foam gasket gets a little wear on it.
It comes with a slip of paper with a table for calculating your exposure times. I found that my filter needed about 1-2 stops more exposure than what the table indicated.

Comments about Hitech 4 x 4" PROSTOP Neutral Density 3.0 Filter for the Lee Filter Holder:
Shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II, 24-70 F2.8 L
The filter I received produced extremely blue casts which could not be removed using white balance RGB curves or LAB curves. Images were also very soft.

Optical clarity is good, however it does introduce a significant color shift in the final image that needs correction in post-processing.

Comments about Hitech 4 x 4" PROSTOP Neutral Density 3.0 Filter for the Lee Filter Holder:
Best used for landscape photography with hard horizion lines (beaches, desertes, praries). Unlike Lee's or Cokin's split ND filters, the Hitech ones tend to actually be in stock. Moreover, the filters are sufficently well built that they don't seem to exhibit any optical aberations. Finally one nice feature is that there's the split is offset in such a way that there's sufficent space to use the filter as a 2-stop solid ND if the graduation isn't needed or desired; at least with anything but the widest angle lenses.
