The BDR-206MBK 12x Internal BDXL/DVD/CD Writer from Pioneer is an internal disc burner for your computer that supports extra large Blu-ray formatted discs as well as CD and DVD formats. Among those Blu-ray formats, it can burn and read BD-R QL, BD-R TL, and BD-R DL.
The drive installs in a standard 5.25" expansion bay, and is an excellent option for anyone who would like to add serious Blu-ray read and write capabilities to their computer system. This optical drive is plug-and-play and does not require installation software. It ships with CyberLink BD software which allows you to write to BDXL media. It also supports playback of BD and DVD movies as well.
- Limit Equalizer technology improves RF signals generated when reading data from Blu-ray Discs and enables improved playback capability
- Airtight construction that helps keep the drive quiet and protects against contaminants and dust particles
- Disc Vibration Stabilizer technology helps protect the disc from warping during the writing process, resulting in a higher quality written disc
- This burner writes BD-R QL and BD-R TL at a 4x disc speed. It writes BD-R and BD-R DL formats at a 6x disc speed. It writes triple, double, and single layer BD-RE discs at a speed of 2x
- Write up to 128GB on a single BDXL Quad Layer disc (equal to 27 single layer DVDs)
- Can write to CD-R and CD-RW discs as well as DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD±R DL
- Can read DVD±R, DVD±R DL, DVD±RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM DL, and DVD-ROM
- Serial ATA (SATA) Interface
- The optical drive ships with CyberLink BD software which allows you to write to BDXL media. It also supports playback of BD and DVD movies as well

This Writer works well. It takes a little to write to the disk, but it is well worth it for a 100 GBs. The Software (Cyber Link) Power DVD Blu Ray on the other hand does not support BD Live. So if you have Commerical Blu Ray disks with (BD Live) the player will not decode the movie for you to watch on your computer. This defeats the purpose of the player. I asked Cyber Link for clarification and stated that they didn't support it.

It's a breeze. Ready for Mac. Remove the gate cover of the burner before the installation otherwise won't open the sliding door on the Mac. Great for burn Blu-ray directly from Final Cut Pro X. Also great to Backup jobs.

I wanted to add Blu-Ray to my MacPro 8 core system but decided to go with a SATA instead of internal PATA. I have more than 1 MacPro so this unit is a "test the waters" to see how it will run before upgrading other machines. So far so good. It is very fast and quite (unlike some SATA Hard drives even). Over the years of buying and being sadly let down by much gear I feel this BD drive feels sold and it will be not wasted money spent.
