The Fujifilm X10 Digital Camera is a fun point-and-shoot that does more than its name implies. Designed with manual mode, HD video capture, and RAW shooting capabilities the X10 begs to be your creative option when a DSLR isn't the most practical option. As such, the X10 is of course lightweight, yet made from die-case magnesium, giving that a bit of that old-school look and feel. Adding to that look, and usability, would be the camera's viewfinder and built-in flash.
It's also well equipped. As the aforementioned features suggest, this is more than a snapshot camera. The 12Mp 2/3" EXR CMOS sensor captures both high res stills and 1080p HD video. The lens is a 28-112mm (35mm equiv) zoom with an f/2.0-2.8 aperture and manual zooming capabilities. This Fujinon lens also features a proprietary Super Electron Beam Coating which ensures high quality image capture from any point on the lens.
When you'd like to review images or shoot using the monitor, the 2.8" LCD screen has you covered. This display features high-contrast viewing that makes it easy to see, even when outdoors. No matter how you frame though the camera gives you the option to capture in RAW or JPEG formats. You can also take advantage of in-camera RAW processing. Film Simulation Modes area helpful as well to give you photos a look all their own.
Additional features of the X10 include functions like the electronic horizon leveling gauge. This gauge ensures level images, without a tripod. Another useful option is the Motion Panorama 360° feature for seamless panoramic shooting. There's also the Fast power start-up for image capture in as little as 0.8 seconds.

I have been using X10 for nearly 15 days now and I have to say that it is a top notch and fun to use camera. The images it produces are real; without any harsh in-camera processing like excessive noise reduction or over sharpening. This camera allows you to customize the settings to the core. My Pros:
-Lots of manual controls.
-Colors are great.
-Good low light performance.
-The manual zoom is fun to use.
-EXR mode gives a lot of creativity with pre-set DR settings.
-Super Macro is nice.
-Compact enough.
-My favorite feature is actually the layout of the buttons. Dedicated RAW, Fn, focus selection buttons are great for those who are coming from DSLR world.
I have my issues too:
-Optical VF view is obstructed at wide angle.
-Battery life is bad - I have a Nikon P300 and its battery life runs forever even though it uses power for that all electronic zoom lens and a brighter LED screen.
-Softwares like LR3 and Aperture don't support Fuji RAW just yet and the software provided does not just fit into my workflow.
-Initial start times are anywhere between 2-5 seconds for me.
(All the above costed 1 star).
All in all a very good camera which is different from the crowd. I compared its IQ with Canon SX10 IS, Oly E-PL1(kit lens) and Nikon P300 and its the best of all, Period. I am glad I got Fuji. They won a new "happy" customer.

There are lots of nice things to say about the X10. It is a beautiful design, has some great features, and the picture quality looks great in general. Fuji deserves credit for trying.
However, this camera treats specular highlights in a totally unacceptable way. If you have any expectation of taking photos with highlights such as reflections off waves or reflective objects be aware that the waves end up looking like a sea of ping pong balls and large parts of the objects are obscured by crisply rendered white circles.
I have two weeks left - if Fuji does not at minimum announce an imminent firmware fix for this well documented problem (search the internet for "fujifilm x10" and words like "WDS", "white blobs", or "White Dots") I will have no choice but to return mine. There is no way to forget about trying to avoid the problem while shooting - a product for this price with reasonable quality should require avoiding problem situations and limiting your shooting options.
I sincerely hope there is a way to update this review if a fix is released before I have to return the camera.

I mainly use this as an everyday walk around camera, take it fishing,on walks,I pretty much have it with me all the time. The camera is so well made, has neat retro looks and delivers superb images. I have a full frame DSLR that I use for portrait and stock photography, but that is just to big and bulky to carry all the time. The X10 is just the ticket for everyday carry and the quality is good enough for even a little bit of portrait work. I like the ability to use the old cable remote shutter release with the X10

Comments about Fujifilm X10 Digital Camera (Black):
I'd heard a lot of good things about the X10 but I still was surprised by how good it is, how easy it is to handle, how big and bright the optical viewfinder is (compared to the few OVFs available on other compact cameras) and how it produced high quality images.
I'm an old fashioned shooter and I like to look through a viewfinder. Too many cameras don't have them, and this was definitely a selling point for the X10. After squinting through the OVFs of some competitors, the X10 OVF really shines. Yes, I wish Fuji had completed the job by covering close to 95 percent (instead of 85 percent) of the area captured and included a parallax correcting frame plus some basic information like focus confirmation, shutter speed, aperture and Leica-like arrows for manual exposure. Fuji apparently says that would have made the X10 a little larger, a tradeoff I would have happily made.
Also worthy of praise is the manual zoom, much easier to manipulate than the usual, imprecise lever on other compacts. And the flash is perfect for fill-in light, which is what I mostly use built-in strobes for.
The lens is sharp and contrasty, The sensor is super. Together they produce beautifully rendered images, great color and no noise before ISO 400 (and it's not a problem there). In my first shoot with the X10, I worked with a mixture of tungsten light and window light, with in some cases also the fill-in flash. The X10 handled the mixture surprisingly well with only some slight tweaking required in Lightroom. I've attached a couple of images. You can see the wonderful skin tones rendered by this camera.
This is an outstanding camera. A little more tweaking with the OVF would make it perfect. Still, it is highly recommended.

I have only had the camera a couple of weeks and I am just flabbergasted by the incredible pictures it takes. I was thinking of getting myself a DSLR, but was holding back because I just did not want to deal with carrying around a bulky camera. I also wanted to get something that would shoot good quality video for web. So far, so very good, I couldn't believe the quality of the video and the sound too. This little beauty of a camera is jam-packed with features and is so easy to use. I have already recommended it to lots of folks, and two of my friends are already sold!

Only had this camera for a week and i'm loving it. First thing I noticed was the image quality was great right of the bat, without messing with manual settings. Its a nice size and feels great in my hands. The rangefinder look and feel are what really attracted me to this camera in the fist place, and the dials are everything that I expected. That old retro look and feel, with the quality of a modern digital camera, its a really cool combination. The macro shots come out great and i'm impressed with the low light capability for a camera of this caliber. Also the RAW button is a cool touch. Overall I say its a great camera. Really fun to use and you'll get compliments everywhere you go with it. So far the only negative thing i've come across is the manual focus. I had my fingers crossed that it would work well, as its an unsual but cool feature for this type of camera, but as I expected its not that great. The AF does the job just fine tho, and everything else about the camera makes up for it. If you're looking for a fun camera that takes great shots and has lots of manual features with the benifits of a modern digital cam, plus want to score style points, this is a great buy :)

This is one of many items I have bought from B&H over the years. I have found them excellent to deal with. The camera shipped the same day and arrived exactly as promised.
I am a retired comercial photographer who is tired of carrying 30+ lbs of gear everywhere. I selected the Fuji X10 looking for high quality images in a compact package. My initial impression of the X10 is that it is beautifully made and the image quality is excellent.
Finding my way around the numerous menues was confusing at first but after spending a few days with the manual and the camera, I'm starting to feel more comfortable. One problem really frustrated me when I couldn't get the manual flash to work. When I picked up the camera to shoot I inadvertently pressed the top of the selector button which changed the shooting mode to auto bracketing...which shuts down the manual flash option. It took me all day to figure it out.
I love the X10. I highly recommend it as a high quality small camera. It has lots of features and it works great. Take the time to read the manual and experiment...I think you'll be pleased, also.

I am the person who do not like to carry a BIG camera. I had try many compact cameras, almost all kind of brands, up to Leica D-Lux5. Finally I have the right camera to carry for everyday. Thank to Fujifilm X10. IQ is good enough for electronic media up to printing 8X10. Easy to use, very light weight, but strong and rigid. Once I like the most of this camera is the IQ is very consistent.

Great daylight camera. Its fun to walk around and take pictures. But, if you're a pro trying to save money and hoping to get some DSLR images with this camera, you will be returning it like I did.
I didn't like that the iris stopped at 11 when shooting RAW. No 16 or 22. And, if your ISO went past, rougly 1000, the images are very very noisy.
The camera says it can do higher ISOs, but only if you change from RAW to Jpegs. And then you can only hit some higher ISOs. You have to change to small Jpegs for the highest of the range.
If I would have known this before the purchase, I wouldn't have bought it.
If you like to walk around and take pictures as a hobby, this is a great camera. If you would like to make a step up from a cheap point and shoot, this is a great camera to start learning more about photography. For me, I'm going to stick to 35mm and DSLR photography. You can't get great results without spending the right amount of money.
Great for amateurs, not for the PROS!

I'm using this product for day out, events, fancy dinner with friends etc. The compact size is a big plus and the retro look draws people's attention. The functions and performance is beyond my expectation for it's size and price.
Only thing I have to get used to is on/off by turning the lens. most of people cannot figure out how without reading instruction manual.

Comments about Fujifilm X10 Digital Camera (Black):
Like many purchasers, I shoot with a DSLR (Nikon) and have several lenses and flashes. I rarely travel, but when my wife scheduled a two-week trip for us to Italy, I agonized over whether to take my DSLR equipment or look for something lighter. I realized that travel photography involves compromises and that I needed a camera that gave me a sense of control, had good image quality, and would be easy to carry. I didn't want to get a camera with interchangeable lenses, because I didn't want the temptation to start building a camera system. I didn't want a consumer point and shoot that would make the photographic process seem like a casual adventure in snapshots.
The Fuji X10 was the perfect choice for my trip and will be my "always with me" camera when I don't have my main gear handy. It is solidly built, has an incredibly fast zoom lens, and better high ISO performance than my Nikon. Fast glass and high ISO capability were perfect for the cathedrals and museums of Italy. Here's a bit more detail:
Build Quality: It is a cliché, but the camera is built like a tank. If you've ever shot with a Leica rangefinder, you will enjoy the X10. It feels like a baby Leica. Everything about it shows precision and attention to detail, from the knobs on top (which move with precise, tight clicks), to the lens cap itself. The lens cap is metal and has fabric lining over the entire inner surface opposite the lens and even along the inner circumference of the cap to produce a tight fit on the lens. The camera is a joy just to hold.
Access to Key Functions: The camera has direct access to commonly used settings: a mode dial on top, an exposure compensation dial on top -- talk about direct, just click and EV is adjusted -- ISO through the Fn button, metering mode button and WB button. And zooming the lens by turning the lens barrel (like a DSLR) is ingenious and offers precise zooming compared with the usual little rocker switch found on most small cameras.
Shooting: I shot mainly in Aperture priority mode, matrix metering, and adjusted ISO manually when necessary. I used the EV compensation a lot, as I found that matrix would sometimes expose a bit too hot, but as noted above, this adjustment was just a quick click of a dial (no menu diving). Spot metering was also easily accessible for other situations.
Focus: Auto focus is amazingly fast for a contrast detection system. Focus was so quick, I forgot I wasn't shooting with my DSLR. Very quick focus confirmation.
Flash: Fill-flash outdoors was amazing and produced just the right amount of flash to lift shadows on faces and with great white balance (no obvious blue flash on warmer tone faces). Don't know how it did it, but fill flash was effortless and better than my speedlight's Nikon TTL-BL (without any adjustments).
Viewfinder: Having an optical viewfinder is an added bonus to this type of camera. It is large, bright and contrasty. However, it is only useful as a general framing guide, as it only shows about 85% of the image and does not show any camera information (exposure, etc.). So, I eventually used the LCD to compose my images, because it was more precise and showed exposure information. If you are not used to using an LCD, the LCD can show an artificial horizon line to help level the camera.
I am really satisfied with this camera. And my neck loves it. Carrying 12 ounces around your neck with no camera bag to keep up with is a very liberating experience. And, even though I shoot RAW with my Nikon, I shot JPEGs and let Mr. Fuji take care of the colors and processing. This is a great travel camera. It is also inconspicuous. You can shoot street scenes and people "Leica style" -- with your camera hanging on your chest and depressing the shutter with one hand -- with outstanding results. For me, the X10 was the perfect camera for my trip and is a great value, considering the design and degree of control it offers.

Comments about Fujifilm X10 Digital Camera (Black):
I bought this camera for one main reason: it looked like a classic Leica rangefinder. As a Leica M9 user, I wanted to bring a pocket camera for times when I do not want to bring my M9 out, or for when I just need a basic point and shoot. What impressed me about the X10 is the image quality. Very impressive! And the colors are very well-rendered. This is definitely a point and shoot for advanced photographers and professionals. It is NOT easy to use right out of the box, and the menu interface takes a while to get used to, especially when it comes to more advanced and manual functions. The build quality is excellent. My only problem with the camera is the weak battery life. I bought a spare one just in case.

Comments about Fujifilm X10 Digital Camera (Black):
I've been on the hunt for a good walk around camera, primarily for street photography. I've gone through a few models from various makers. All had strengths but glaring weaknesses. The FujiFilm X10 finally delivers well enough on all counts.
The design of and feel of the camera is wonderfully retro. The top plate feels like a solid milled piece of brass. The buttons and dials have a very analog feel to them.
Performance wise, you cannot beat the image quality. The lens and sensor delivery amazing images. The fujion lens is f 2.0 at it's widest. It only stops down to 2.8 zoomed all the way in. This delivers nice bokeh and any focal length.
My only gripe with the camera is with the lens at F 2.0, the shutter is limited to 1/1000. To work around this I attach a CPL filter to the lens hood accessory. This stops down the light well enough during sunny days.
Overall, best compact shooter out there. A great addition to the set of FujiFilm Cameras.

Has some great features and the layout is very user-friendly. I would have considered it a point-and-shoot for pros, except for its downfall...forget about using the lens hood with the flash engaged; it bounces back in to a heavy top-left vignette. Really? I like to use flash at low-levels outdoors, plus I definitely don't plan to remove the hood every time I go indoors. Ugh.

If this camera had a red dot on the front, people would endure wait lists of a year to pay $2,000 for it. They would wait even longer if the price were $3,000. If it randomly failed to record images to the SD card, they might even pay $7,000 for it and then keep it in a vault.
Seriously, it's a wonderful camera, with a great lens.

This camera have a very nice construction and incredibles features. The image quality is very nice for a tiny camera. The only problem is if you wish to take fotos from the lights at night because there is a "white disc syndrome" that seems to be due the sensor. But I don't think that it is a severe demerit for this nice camera. I suggest that you buy extra batteries and this original leather case...
