I just upgraded to this model from the a55 and all I can say is wow. Image clarity is amazing the LED viewvinder is great. autofocus, fantastic. Highly reccomended and the price is awesome.

I ordered this camera for my company. We're a general contracting company and I create promo and how-to videos for the website. I had been using a Sony SR7 hard drive camcorder and was just not getting results that I wanted. The resolution and depth of field that the camera creates for videos is pretty stunning in comparison. I will never go back to a "camcorder" with their small, often partially plastic lenses, and small chips. I spent a long time comparing this camera to the A35 and A55 and this one won out for several reasons. These include the 24 megapixels, larger size, fully manual controls, higher res view finder, versatile swivel LCD, to name a few. I decided to go with the Sony over other competitors due it's ability to quickly autofocus, for those hurried documentary moments, but I actually find my self manually focusing most of the time because it looks better and is now easier to do simply by having a focus ring. I was worried about not having the optical viewfinder but have found that this very high res one perfectly acceptable. I barely notice the difference. My only complaint is the lack of a head phone plug in to monitor the sound (which I like to record straight-in to the camera from my shotgun or lav mics instead of messing with separate sound). Manual audio/meters would be good to have also. Oh and did I mention it takes WONDERFUL, detailed, colorful photographs?

compared to D5100, there's just so much more features on the a65 it's hard to believe it isn't a $2500 camera.

the SLT tech allows 10 FPS, and when coupled with SanDisk Extreme Pro 95mb, virtually means you can keep on snapping without waiting for it to process. This used to be $3000 territory, now it is in our hands for the better of us all.

24 MP is big, but on an APSC-C Sensor? actually, it's pretty good on the JPEGs, as long as you remember to put Sharpness to +3 in the menu. Raw will look better if you have the time to do so.

Low light? it can do low light ok with fast lens, just don't expect full-frame low-megapixel quality. Actually, it has Multi-ISO shots to make up for that! it takes six shots and combines them into a low-noise picture. Neat.

Panorama mode is super neat as well, just remember to be steady as you pan it. Tends to be a bit finicky if you go too fast in panning.

Otherwise, this DSLT is the shiznit!

I think it is best camera for this price.range. Nice futures, very easy to use. Optical quality of the kit.lens is decent. Only drawback is Hi ISO.images.are.very noisy. But it's usable up to 3200. Most of to time I don't go over 1600 so it's OK for me. I love the big and very useful viewfinder.

Really like the OLED viewfinder, although one that was about twice as big would be even better. I only use LCDs when going through menus or to look at the photos which I have taken - never to shoot with. Rapid-sequence firing works well, although learning to shoot only two frames rather than six takes some practice. I really like the enhanced-color focus assist when using manual focus (I use white). Autofocus works well, but only in good light with the lens fairly open. In-camera image stabilization is okay, but I normally turn this off and use the in-lens stabilization with the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens. Very fast shutter release with no perceptible delay.

I use this camera to take pictures of indoor events with lower light, indoor and outdoor sports, and for wildlife pictures.

Along with a f2.8 lense, I no longer have an issue with lack of light indoors. Outdoors, with standard lenses, I am able to get shots of moving objects which are clear and in focus.

Two examples:
1) a bird flying past me...I cound not pick it up in the view finder (flying to close and fast) was cought and in focus by having the proper settings and pointing the camera toward the bird.

2) I took a portrait of neighbors at dusk, with the kit lense and no flash (on auto). The picture came out great. (I really empressed by neighbor, who is a photographer.

Bottom line, this camera is making me appear like a better photographer than I really am.

Upgraded from A100 alpha - the A65 is amazing! Speed is crazy good - no more autofocus hunting. Then video recording is icing on the cake. Back screen means you can get video right at grass level if you need to. Macro with regular lens is outstanding and action speed for wildlife way better than the reviews would make you think.

I'm impressed by the quality (image and build) of this sony camera.
It's very comfortable to hold e fast, VERY FAST, to shoot.

I'm loving every single piece.

The kit lens surpassed all my expectatives and at the first shot, I've got some discreet bokeh balls at f/5.6 filling the frame.

Great alternative to the Canikon DSLRs. The new SLT technology allows for great AF performance and 10 fps burst. The A65 is the right size, feels very comfortable in hand and has all the bells and whistles an amateur or advanced amateur would need. Built-in image stabilization and GPS are awesome. Electronic view finder will blow you away. 24 MP images capture amazing detail..
The kit lens is ok, but with a fast prime lens or telephoto you can see some great results.

I love all of the settings available, especially being able to see what the pic is going to look like - no guesswork! I also love the detail captured with the available megapixels. It's light and easy to shoot. The swiveling screen helps to get shots from different perspectives. I love it!

I really love this camera. The viewfinder and the lcd screen are really bad in low/bad indoor light though. It is like looking at a fuzzy tv screen. Other than that, it is a perfect camera.

Those of you who often compose your photos via the LCD display ("Live View" in Sony-speak) can safely skip the next two paragraphs.

I own/have owned an Alpha-580 and an Alpha-100 along with numerous film SLRs in the past. The OLED display may not be to your liking as it's not true through-the-lens viewing. But it does have the great benefit of allowing you to see things as they WILL be if you're applying any in-camera adjustments or effects (like the HDR or partial-color.)

My opinion of the OLED viewfinder: I like it even though it can be a bit grainy in low light (almost nightvision-like.) The imaging is FAST and sharp and, sometimes, slightly surreal. The heads-up info is great, and things like the leveling metering are over the top.

But what we all came here for is the 24 MP imaging. This camera delivers on its promise, from what I have seen. Be advised that you should leave your cheap lenses at home as the new sensor is…well…very sensitive. Sony provides a variety of settings to compensate for some lens issues but you'll likely be Jonesing for the Zeiss lenses before you know it. (No, I don't have any of the Zeiss, but I'm thinking about cracking Piggy.)

There appear to be fewer direct controls than are present on the Alpha-580 and prior models, continuing a downward trend since the Maxxums of the 80s. But a closer look will reveal the dual-purposing of the navigation controls. Overall, a cleaner design. I appreciate the option of being able to re-assign many of the remaining controls to perform alternative functions.

My only dislike thus far is the card slot and it is for an astounding reason: it feels very rickety when inserting a Memory Stick card! SD cards insert fine, but I found it very easy to to mis-align Sony's own card type. Are they admitting defeat and designing around the more popular card type? (It would not be the first time. BetaMax, for example.)

I primarily bought this camera for the fully manual video mode. I'm shooting several small student documentaries, and this camera has just about everything I need. I've also been snapping a lot of pictures now that I have the capability to do so, and I have been mostly impressed.

One of my favorite features of this camera is the "Function" button that calls up a simplified menu of shooting options. I work with a lot of T2is at my job, and after becoming used to their control interface, I was pleasantly surprised by Sony's menu system, and almost immediately had a hard time going back. The other feature I have been very impressed with is the ability to run video in PASM modes. I almost always shoot video in the manual mode, but having the aperture and shutter modes is extremely useful. The oft advertised continuous video auto focus only works in the video program mode, and performs well, but isn't terribly important to me.

My only real gripe with the A65 is the noise, which is discussed thoroughly on a number of blogs and camera review websites. Shooting at ISOs above 1600 will basically get you mud. If you are going for extreme low lighting, or extremely fast moving subjects, this camera will probably be nothing but frustrating. However, for photography in sunlight or intentionally lit environments, the 24 megapixel chip captures detail admirably.

Overall, I'm very happy with this camera.

Sony has created a great new camera with the best available sensor technology. Super raw images for the semi-pro photographer and tons of special features for the average user. The electronic view finder is a fantastic way to see exactly how pictures will be seen when the photo is taken. Can't beat the Sony SLT 65V for value. A must buy new camera.

I replaced my Sony A700 with the new A65 and the move was exactly what I was looking for. The larger 24mp sensor gives me the cropping ability I was looking for without the quality of the image suffering. Its fast, sharp and the 15 PT AF and OLED tru-finder are unlike anything I've used before. Having the HD video option is a + but I have to admit I didn't buy it for the feature. I find the video quality exceptional in full 1080HD. The 18 - 55 kit lense is much sharper and useable rather than the 18 - 70 kit lense that came with the A700 and will suffice unitil you add to your kit. Overall I am very pleased with the A65 and enjoying every moment I get out there to use it.

Bought this camera because of the new organic LED viewfinder combined with the continuous auto focus capability provided by the translucent mirror technology. All I can say is WOW! This is one great camera. Totally compatible with all my older Minolta lenses and flash accessories.
