Sony wants to introduce you to their Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit. This DSLR has a number of things going for it, not the least of which is the 24.3Mp sensor. Think of all the possibilities 24.3 megapixels of resolution has: mural sized prints, incredible detail, rich color, and more! If you've been craving the pixel power of the medium format back, but in a DSLR rig, now your wait is over.

Sony also gave the A77 their 2nd generation Translucent Mirror Technology system. What does this technology do? It allows the camera to focus with the speed and accuracy of Phase Detection AF and shoot simultaneously. This is an unheard of capability in the world of digital photography, well until now, that is. The camera also boasts Sony's upgraded BIONZ image processor. The processor performs many functions, including efficiently transferring shot data to the chip in your memory card. It also reduces visual noise, and ensures that functions such as 6-image layering and 2D/3D Sweep Panorama work smoothly, and with the necessary speed.

More than a still camera, the SLT-A77 also captures high-quality 1920 x 1080p AVCHD video at 60p or 24p. You can also choose to record at 60i. HD movies can also be captured with full manual control. That means the entire mode dial is at your disposal: Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, and Manual. Live View, Full-Time Live View (in LCD or EVF) are also available for use as is Full-Time Phase Detection AF. The latter of course being an intelligent way to correct focus automatically, while you concentrate on the scene at hand.

What the DSLR also offers, above and beyond most less-sophisticated cameras, is a viewfinder, the way all your heroes used to shoot. The A77's OLED viewfinder gets your eye off the LCD screen and into the right situation for capturing successful images. Like all viewfinders, this one keeps distractions and glare at bay. But what the OLED viewfinder does that's above and beyond the pack includes a reduction of motion blur on the Tru-Finder screen. The OLED features 2359K dots of resolution and a high contrast ratio. It also allows you to see the results of camera adjustments in real time with true-to-life color and detail.

Of course, the SLT-A77 does have an LCD screen too, but not just any monitor. This one tilts and swivels for everything from hard-to-get shots to successful reviewing of footage in harsh lighting conditions. What else does this type of LCD allow you to do? How about self-portraits? (We all know you take them... every 'creative' photographer does!) When it's not in use, the screen folds flat to the camera for safe storage and traveling.

As far as shooting performance is concerned, in regards to all things internal on the camera, the A77 backs up those 24.3Mp with the kinds of features and functions one would expect. First, the camera supports burst shooting up to 12 frames per second at full resolution, that's great news for sports photographers. The A77 also boasts a super-short lag time of only 0.05 seconds. Then there's the 16,000 ISO sensitivity and the 1200-zone exposure metering. The metering function reads directly from the camera's main image sensor and offers the choice of Multi, Center, and Spot metering.

As for more proprietary shooting features, the camera has a load of those too! While you can shoot on manual, you might find yourself playing with all the built-in options for expressing your creativity. First off, there's the dual control dials that give you access to two settings at once. All the traditional P/A/S/M exposure modes can be found there. Getting into the menu functions you'll find options such as 19-point Auto Focus, Object Tracking AF, and 6-image layering just to start. Dig a little deeper and Handheld Twilight mode and Multi-Frame NR are there to help you capture excellent low-light images.

You'll also find extras such as built-in GPS. The integrated GPS receiver records the location and time of every shot you take, allowing you to view them later on a map with compatible computer and Internet applications. This feature is also great for those into 'geo-tagging'. Eleven Picture Effects modes also give you another way to express yourself with options like Pop Color, Retro Photo, Toy Camera, and more. Old standards like face detection and Sony's Smile Shutter technology are there for your use as well.

Like any good DSLR worth its salt, Sony gave the SLT-A77 a built-in flash for capturing low-light shots with ease. That same flash can also trigger an optional wireless flash. The camera also has an integrated hot shoe for attaching various external flashes and flash accessories (sold separately).

2nd Generation Translucent Mirror Design
Other DSLRs can shoot. Or they can focus with the speed and precision of Phase Detection AF. They cannot do both at once. Sony changes all that with the award-winning Translucent Mirror Technology system. It directs light to both the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor simultaneously
24.3Mp Resolution
You get incredible detail and gorgeous enlargements thanks to an APS-C sensor with 24.3 megapixels
Up to 12 Frames Per Second Continuous
The translucent mirror makes it far easier to capture the decisive soccer kick or your baby at her absolute cutest. Shoots up to 12 frames per second at full-resolution 24.3 megapixels with continuous auto focus (AE locked after first frame). This is the world's fastest shooting speed for interchangeable lens APS-C cameras, as of August, 2011
OLED Viewfinder
There's never been anything quite like the Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder. For size, speed and brightness even after sunset, this is a gem. It begins with 2359K dots for amazing resolution and high contrast ratio for incredible depth. OLED reduces motion blur to a bare minimum. You can also see the results of camera adjustments in real time with superb color and detail
HD Movies at 60p, 60i, or 24p
Capture spectacular HD Movies. This is the world's first DSLR to offer a choice of super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or cinematic 24p, all at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. AVCHD Progressive codec delivers stunning picture quality. MP4 codec offers smaller files for easier upload to the web
HD Movies with Full Manual Control
Now you don't need to surrender control when you shoot HD movies. Enjoy the full expressive potential of Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority or Manual (P/A/S/M) control in HD movie mode
Full-Time Phase Detection AF
You get fast, accurate auto focus in every mode-even HD Movie and Live View-thanks to Sony's exclusive Translucent Mirror Technology. While Contrast Detection Auto Focus often hunts for correct focus, Phase Detection AF knows exactly where correct focus is, and goes straight for it
Full-Time Live View in LCD or EVF
You can use both the LCD monitor and OLED Electronic Viewfinder for composing shots in Live View. Both provide a what-you-see-is-what-you-get preview of white balance, focus, depth of field, exposure and 100% framing accuracy, plus informative on-screen displays
Short Release Time Lag
Helps ensure that the image you want is the image you get. Once auto focus occurs, release time lag is the delay between fully pressing the shutter release and when the camera actually starts taking the picture. Long lag makes it harder to capture fast-moving objects. The Sony A65 boasts a short DSLR release time lag at only 0.05 seconds
Rugged, Magnesium Alloy Body
The SLT-A77 is built for the real world with a magnesium alloy body that combines high strength with light weight. Ports, doors and controls are also weather-resistant for smooth operation under adverse conditions
Object Tracking AF
Locks onto a specified object and maintains focus even as the subject moves. Unpredictable subjects stay in focus even while zooming. You can concentrate on composition without worrying about focus
19-Point Auto Focus
To maximize the value of Translucent Mirror Technology, Sony incorporates Phase Detection AF of great sophistication. Nineteen sensors with 11 cross sensors maximize precision for both vertical and horizontal subjects
Three-Way Tilt-Swivel LCD Screen
Tilt it up or down to frame high- and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss. Tilt and swivel over the camera for self-portraits. You can even tilt it up and down when you hold the camera in vertical mode! Finally, the monitor folds flush to the camera with the LCD exposed for shooting or protected for travel
Dual Control Dials
Perfect for experienced shooters, dual control dials provide direct, hands-on access to two settings at a time
Top Mounted LCD
In addition to status displays on the LCD monitor and Electronic Viewfinder, Sony offers a top-mounted LCD with exposure information
6-Image Layering
Leverages the fast BIONZ processor to capture six images in a fraction of a second, and then combine the data. The result is one incredible single image that gets a cleaner result in Multi-Frame NR mode or sharper nighttime pictures in Hand-held Twilight mode
Multi-Frame NR
Experience incredible low-light shooting without a flash. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six, it creates a single image with a reduction in noise equivalent to two additional steps of ISO sensitivity. Sensitivity selectable up to ISO 25600
Handheld Twilight Mode
Get gorgeous shots at night without a tripod. Combines six frames into a single image for smooth, low-noise evening shots
Auto HDR Built Into Camera
Captures more scene dynamic range than a single exposure can handle-and more range than photo film. Combines the best highlight detail from one shot, the best mid-tones from a second and the best shadow detail from a third for one incredible shot
3D Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture vast scenic vistas and 16:9 shots in spectacular 3D. As you sweep across the panorama, the camera records separate right-eye and left-eye images that make landscapes come alive on your 3D television. Records both JPEG and MPO file formats
Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture expansive landscapes automatically. Press the shutter, sweep vertically or horizontally. The camera does the rest, continuously shooting images and stitching them together
Built-In GPS
An integrated GPS receiver records the location and time of every shot you take and lets you view your images on a map with compatible computer and Internet applications, so you can remember where you took your favorite shots
Shot Result Preview
See the results before you take the shot. This preview takes the guesswork out of camera settings by showing the effects of the aperture, shutter and DRO settings on the depth of field, motion and dynamic range
921K Dot TruBlack LCD Screen
Sony's 3.0 inch Xtra Fine LCD monitor has 921K dots for superb resolution. The TruBlack screen includes a special resin layer to suppress internal reflections, increasing contrast compared to conventional LCDs. Sunny Weather mode boosts visibility even further
Main Sensor Quick AF Live View
Combines the fast focus of Phase Detection AF with high quality Live View images right from the main sensor. This is made possible by Sony Translucent Mirror Technology. You get accurate images and 100% framing on the LCD monitor or eye-level viewfinder
ISO 16000 Sensitivity
Incredibly clear low-light pictures without sacrificing detail, made possible by the low-noise Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor and refined BIONZ image processor
AUTO+ (Advanced Auto) Mode
Get cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots. Unifies and simplifies Sony intelligent technologies. The camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode
Graphic Display
Clarifies the relationship between aperture and shutter speed, as well as the effect each has on photographic results
Upgraded BIONZ Image Processor
The brain of the camera is a Sony's BIONZ image processor substantially upgraded for the demands of 24.3 megapixel photography. Chroma noise reduction delivers high-resolution, low-noise photos even at ISO 16000. Also enables fast processing for up to 10 fps continuous shooting of data-intensive 24.3 MP images, 2D/3D Sweep Panorama modes and 6-image layering
Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO)
Improves results with backlit subjects and recovers details hidden in shadows. Settings include Auto, Level with a choice of five operating levels and Off
1200-Zone Exposure Metering
Reads exposure directly from the main image sensor. Choice of Multi, Center and Spot metering accommodates a full range of shooting situations
SteadyShot INSIDE Stabilization
Image stabilization reduces blur by compensating for camera shake. Typical DSLR systems build image stabilization into selected lenses only. SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization is built into the camera body itself. You'll reduce blur with every A Mount lens, including macro and wide-aperture standard zoom lenses
HDMI Output for HD Viewing
Enjoy HD movies and stunning still images on a compatible HDTV. The camera includes an HDMI output. In addition, the BRAVIA Sync system works with compatible Sony BRAVIA HDTVs enabling you to control camera playback using the television's remote
Up to 530 Shots of Battery Life
Take up to 530 shots on a single charge with Sony Stamina battery power. Sony's InfoLITHIUM battery system enables you to see the percent of power remaining, so you can keep shooting in confidence
P/A/S/M Exposure Modes
The camera offers a full range of controls from the beginner's AUTO+ mode to P/A/S/M: Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual. On-screen prompts help you refine your skills, build your confidence and exercise greater creative control
Advanced Anti-Dust Technology
Anti-Dust Technology helps keep the CMOS sensor clean, resulting in consistently clear pictures. First a static-free coating on the sensor's low-pass filter helps repel dust. Then vibration automatically dislodges dust from the sensor
Built-In Flash (GN12)
To help you shoot more effectively, the camera includes a built-in flash (Guide Number 12) that can also trigger a wireless accessory flash (sold separately). The integrated hot shoe enables you to expand your lighting options with a range of accessory flashes
Slot for Two Media Types
For cost-effective, convenient storage and sharing of your images, the camera accepts Memory Stick PRO Duo/Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo and SD/SDHC/SDXC media
APS-C Size HD CMOS Image Sensor
With 19.5 times the area of the typical camcorder image sensor, APS-C makes the difference between amateur and professional-looking video, delivering an exceptional combination of high resolution, high sensitivity and gorgeous, blurred backgrounds
Sony Exmor Technology
Conventional image sensors use only a handful of analog-to-digital (A/D) converters, which can slow you down. The Exmor sensor provides more than 5,600 column-parallel A/D converters. This helps enable continuous shooting at up to 10 frames per second
11 Picture Effect Modes
Discover innovative ways to make your images and videos pop. These include Posterization (Color, B/W), Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow), Soft High-key, High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, and Miniature
Face Detection and Registration
The camera can automatically detect up to eight individual faces and adjust focus, exposure, white balance and flash to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of people. Can prioritize children or adults. Face Registration can remember friends and family members and prioritize them.
Smile Shutter Technology
Captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply select the Smile Shutter mode and the camera takes the picture automatically. You can prioritize children or adults and adjust the smile sensitivity

I just got this camera and an amazed. The camera is built like a tank but is super light. The kit lens is a super high duality optic. When I photographed clothing I could see the fibers that make up the threads. Super super sharp.
I put the camera on P and set about trying to take a bad picture. I totally failed.
I shot a candle lighting ceremony, no flash, hand held and all lights out except one candle. Not only was I able to get a good shot of both the candle and lighters face in the same shot, but I then got super sharp face closeups of each person in the room.
I then went outside and took handhold shots at nite without flash. I could barely see the but the camera behaved as if it was daylight.
I wont list all the great features the camera has, but will say that so far all sonys claims and then some seem to be true.
I plan to put this camera to the ultimate test and then write a follow up review. I plan to take it to the Bat House at the zoo. I will let yup know how it performs.

I am a wedding and event photographer. I find the camera to be well built and well thought out in many ways. The things that a made me feel it was not a "keeper" were:
Too heavy for it's class and when used with the 18-50 balance seems off, unlike a camera like the 7D which I presume is it's close competition.
Battery on Canon's seem to last way longer
It is very disturbing to have screen blackout between shot which I guess is necessary, due to it having an EVF screen. When doing candids at a wedding I prefer to see the action at all time's in order to get the shot I need the instant it happens. One can't rely on EVF's for this reason. If you use the multi shot mode your buffer fills up and you just can't do reliable shooting, when you are getting screen "black-outs". The lens is also too stiff for video zooming. I found the lack of being able to control the AF spot during video annoying and it results in various seconds of soft scenes. I must say that the video experience is vastly improved due to the fact that the mirror is stationary. Far beyond what Nikon or Canon can do yet when it comes to AF focusing during filming. But it is a heavy camera to hold when doing video more then a Canon G10 (for instance) or various other semi pro models.
I love the way you can flip out the camera screen to use in various positions that are very unique in comparison to any that I have ever used.
The menu system is a bit tedious and envolved and there are some functions that deserve a manual button rather then digging into a menu.
I find that although with the magical speed the camera is able to shoot at, (till the buffer limit slows it down) the camera is much slower in all other ways then a 7D or D700. Turning the qperture or shutter speed dials does not instantaneously change the reading. It lags. The EVF viewfinder as nice as it is, does not replace an optical one unless maybe for table top shooting and landscapes.
It was nice camera to examine but if I would want to own a Sony with an EVF finder I would rather go for a lighter NEX-7 and for the work I do this can not replace my present Canon camera's.

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

I bought a Sony nex 7 from b&h photo. The nex 7 got great reviews, but the auto focus is just horrible. I tried every setting and just could not believe they gave it such a great review. The said the nex 7 and a77 was a tie. I returned it to b&h and they were great. I got the a77 this is the best camera out there. Don't waste your money on that nex system. People are buying the lea2 adapter to use alpha lenses, but you lose image stabilization and lenses will only work at 3.5 or higher. So your 2.8 or prime lens is no good. Image stabilization is built into the a77 so all your lenses including old and prime have it. Get the a77 the nex 7 is small but can't focus on anything. Contrast autofocus is horribl

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

I've only had a couple weeks to experiment with this camera, but there's a lot to love.

      Build and Quality:
This camera is actually lighter than I thought it would be, though the 16-50 adds some weight. As a pair, it's very well balanced. Build quality is fantastic and I like having a weather-sealed combo.

      Button Layout:
I'm most excited about the control that the button scheme affords me. I don't have to go digging around in the menu. There are two control dials, AF/MF toggle, a joystick, dedicated ISO and WB. And I got used to it pretty quickly.

      Electronic Viewfinder:
I previously had an A55, so I'm pretty well accustomed to the EVF. Now, with focus peaking on the A77, the EVF has really proven itself to be useful. I haven't used this in very bright sunlight so I can't speak to that, but I really think the pros outweigh the cons for me.

      Image Quality:
The image quality is fantastic, though the massive RAWs are taxing my iMac and Lightroom a bit. For low light, the A77 is definitely not on the level of Canon and Nikon, but it's certainly not terrible and is not an issue for me. I have printed some large samples and the printed output looks better than on screen.

      16-50 lens:
This lens is rock solid and has performed very well in terms of sharpness and color. AF is quick. I have not evaluated the AF noise on video, but with focus peaking I'll likely shoot video in manual focus most of the time anyway. I'm about to sell my beloved Tamron 17-50/2.8 to recoup some of my funds... that's how much I love this lens.

      Battery Life:
Not very good. The EVF drains the battery pretty fast. Expect to buy some backup batteries.

Overall, this camera is a pleasure to use and I'm very happy with it. I like how Sony is innovating and I'm happy to be along for the ride.

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

I was ready to buy a Canon 7D last summer, when I saw that the Alpha 77 was 'about to be released'. Since then, I waited and waited as the availability got pushed back time after time.

I finally got it in late April and very happy I waited- the technology is amazing. It is literally impossible to take a bad photo. As an old Minolta faithful (first camera was an SRT 101b), it was a bonus to see that even my old manual lenses could work with a simple adaptor.

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

I use this camera for documentary photography and video production. I used a Panasonic GH1 and GH2 for this purpose in the past, as well as a SONY NEX-5N, but the A77 is a better fit for me. The camera is certainly larger, but the controls are well placed and I personally like the joystick navigation. The image quality is superb from my experience, although I generally don't shoot past ISO 800. The autofocus in video mode is ideal for fast moving subjects (animals), although it is not available in manual mode. For most of my video work, I keep it on manual focus anyway and use the focus peaking functionality. The key selling points for me were the weather/dust sealing, the fact that the camera does not overheat in the video mode (like the NEX series), the amazing tilt/swivel screen, 1080 @ 24p and 60p, and the weather-sealed 16-50mm 2.8 lens (superb). Oh yeah, the OLED viewfinder is amazing (I also use the external one for the NEX). For all of the criticism that Sony gets, I think they make innovative cameras and I currently don't see a product from another manufacturer that would be better fit for my needs (we'll wait until September and see if the Canon 7D mkII is out by then, as well as the Panny GH3).

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

I purchased this camera to upgrade to a semi-pro camera, comparable to Canon's 7D, from an entry level Sony a330. The upgrades that this camera offers are what I was looking for. More FPS, extra focus points, and the higher MP. The extra features are icing on the cake. The lens that comes with the camera is very nice. It doesn't seem to be your ordinary kit lens.

Only problem was the pan shooting. I was either too fast or too slow in panning. Found it difficult to get the right speed.Other then that I feel I did the right thing in purchasing the A77. Looking forward to many years of enjoyment.

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

            Moved from Sony DSLR-a500
(I wont bore you with the details you've likely read more then enough times)
I'm not really a pro, semi-pro at best. I'm a cosplay photographer and I've been waiting for this camera before it was announced, I thought this when I held the a55 and was too uncomfortable. Not only does the a77 fit my hands better, but the extra(customization) buttons and two dials is a great addition.

With the a500's OVF, I had issues sometimes with not getting a perfect focus when using MF and it would ruin the shot entirely, so I was used to using live view, with that, I thought the EVF wouldn't even be an issue, but after just a short time, I find myself using EVF more and more.

One important thing I must note is that firmware "ver. 1.05" is a MUST(current firmware version), a requirement to say the least. It repairs many issues from previous versions, which sadly, anything from "ver. 1.04" and before makes it feel like it was still in a beta phase.

I cant say too much about the image quality since I've only done some short field tests, but so far, it's not the best I've seen, but that doesn't mean it's not amazing, there's a clear difference between RAW and JPEG, and each has it's ups and downs. I'm sure everyone knows about the infamous high noise issue(I rarely even go past 3200 personally), but the best counter to that which I am loving, is the Multi-frame noise reduction(which makes handheld twilight useless I have to say) that fires several shots and merges them into one presentable image, only downside to that is that it can only be used in JPEG mode.

The 16-50mm lens is a complement to the a77, it's very fast to focus (SSM of course) which is great for action shots combined with the 12fps, and is made for videography since it focuses so quietly.

            Now for the downside.
The first problem I had with this, was the lens. Amazing as it was, it was a bit heavy, being that it weighted as much as the body itself, at first I didn't really notice it, but after a few hours holding with one hand(I wrap the strap around my arm, not my neck), I started to feel the weight difference. After I snapped in my 50mm F/1.4, it was like taking taking a few pounds off my arm(about 7lbs to be exact).

Another set back was the battery life, I cringed when I read that the average battery life was between 450-550, but after taking 500 shots on about 30% battery(GPS off, no flash, switched between EVF and LV now and then, MFNR used about 30 times, total time used about 4hrs), my worries were gone but not entirely, coming from the a500, this was still low, I recommend a 2nd battery if you're going to be out all day.

Then finally, the most unbearable thing for me personally, is the buffer time, the 12fps will only be good for that 1 second, after that, you'll be shooting 1-2fps at best if you keep going, every counter I could think of came with came with no good results other then "it's a little better", even at settings on JPEG standard, 5MP using continuous fire(not 12fps), the buffer was painful, esp coming from the a500, used a MSPD-HG HX 60MB/s memory card.
Speaking of memory cards, though it can take a MSPD and SD, it only has one slot for both.

Personally, it's a great move from the a500, the pros outweighed the cons immensely, this camera opens a new world for me in action photography and hi-res videography.

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

I had the a55 but viewfinder a bit too small, and the overheating issue was a pain. Now I have the A77 and I love it! Works very well and silently focusses with the kit lens, which is very very sharp. Good range, and the smart teleconverter is super useful, giving 1.4 and 2x range with 12 and 6 megapixel crops in camera and in the viewfinder. Sure the resolution is lower but if you don't want to cart two lenses around it gives you the feel and most of the effect of and extra 50mm stretch. Plus it then uses the sharpest mid section of the lens field. Brilliant!
High ISO not as good as the competition in noise control but not a big deal for most applications, especially as the steady shot built in allows more latitude, and the multi frame NR works fantastically for evening landscapes. and architecture.
Electronic viewfinder is excellent, and huge. Focus peak highlighting is particularly useful, especially for video. 60fps progressive AVCHD looks totally stunning.
Love the handling, except movie switch a little hard to reach. Strap is super uncomfortable so price in an immediate upgrade to that...
Major drawback is being tied to either PAL or NTSC but if this is not an issue, go for it. Sony need to pay attention to customers who TRAVEL and stop treating us all like we should stay home and only watch on our own TV.

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

I just got this camera and I have taken a couple hundred pics with it and I am extremely happy with it. I am a gadget guy but not a camera pro so I was a little intimidated. But the camera is actually easy to learn and it tells you what to do, the colors are spectacular and the focus is always spot on. I love the auto focus it always seem to know what you want to focus on and its fast. I am a little disappointed with the clarity of the pics when you blow them up but supposedly you need to shoot with RAW in order to get all those megapixels and I have not done that yet. The pictures though have just been fantastic, I gotta say they made me look like a camera pro. The viewfinder on this camera is just wowser,,,, its so bright and clear and easy to see. In previous cameras I often used the lcd but for some reason I find myself using the viewfinder more in this camera even though it has a huge and articulating lcd,,,, I dont know why but the viewfinder just seems to frame the shots so well I love it and its electronic too ,,, amazing technology. If you're not a pro, don't be intimidated by this camera, the controls are very easy to use and it feels like hunk of solid steel in your hand although not too heavy, just right in my mind. The battery life is a little low and you might get an extra battery or even the battery grip which really gives you a hunk of camera to carry around but its great looking and makes everyone look at you like your a pro. I love the camera and the 16x50 lens is just awesome and maybe all you need for 90% of your shots.

Excellent camera for beginners, amateurs, enthusiast, and pros. takes wonderful pictures and videos. This camera is an all-in-one package. Resolution (24mp) is amazing, excellent features, video autofocus, EVF is out of this world.

I bought this camera mainly for videos and its 12fps burst rate. But this camera offers more than that and I love it. So no matter who you are or what you do, you will surely love this camera. You gotta try it to beleive it.

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

It's an amazing camera. I am still learning to use it properly but the camera and lens combine to create great photos. It's an upgrade from a Sony Alpha 100 which I loved and used extensively. The A77 just dazzles. I bought the 70-200 f2.8 Sony and the 100mm macro f2.8 to go with the new camera. I have not been disappointed at all. I can't wait to really test it out when the flowers start blooming and the landscape turns green.

Comments about Sony SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera With 16-50mm Lens Kit:

I've been through all the major brands (except the really expensive stuff like Leica, Hassy, etc) and Sony is almost right up there with the Canon and Nikon crowd.

Bought the A77 and kit lens for a few reasons:

                    1) Sony's innovative shooting modes. sure, they're mostly JPEG-only, but they're pretty darn cool. Sony also has great color profiles for their JPEGs, and many times what the camera gives in a JPEG is better than what I can do with RAW.

                    2) Articulating screen - it's great! No other manufacturer puts a nice articulating screen on their pro-sumer bodies like Sony does. Canon makes you step down to the 60D, whereas Nikon makes you get one of their really bare-bones bodies to get one.

                    3) Great ergonomics. I'd call Sony second only behind Pentax for sheer ergonomics. Sorry Canon and Nikon, you guys are behind in this area.

                    4) Super kit lens - the Sony 16-50 is a great lens. Very, very well-made, sharp as a tack wide open and only gets better. The bokeh isn't the creamiest in the world ,but neither is it nervous either. Focuses very fast, absolutely silent in video focusing, and is a pleasure to work with.

The only things I wish Sony would improve:

                    1) LENSES! We need more of them!

                    2) The power-on or "ready time" of the A77 needs work, because it takes too long to power up (like 3 seconds from OFF, or 2 from standby).

                    3) Similarly, the camera's interface also lags slightly - this is very perplexing.

Overall, I feel I made a good choice. Images are vibrant and have loads of resolution. Great camera.
