Tough and smart? Yes, the Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Digital Camera is quite the catch. With numerous design features to keep it protected against the elements and then some, this Optio is no sapling. Add to that the GPS functionality, and this WG-1 GPS cam not only protects itself, but it also knows where it is, at all times. GPS is great for geo-tagging your photos - for archiving or sharing online. And the waterproof, shockproof, crushproof, coldproof, and dustproof capabilities ensure that it'll be around long after you drop it at the beach.
Now, when it comes to the actual images, the WG-1 GPS won't disappoint. This point-and-shoot captures 14Mp photos and 720/30p HD video. Helping the camera do its duty would be a Pentax Zoom lens, 5x optical zoom, digital image stabilization, a 1/2.3" CCD, and a nicely sized 2.7" LCD. Another useful feature includes an HDMI connection for direct transfer of video to your HDTV. In addition, the camera also boasts a Digital Microscope mode for capturing macro images.

Comments about Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Digital Camera (Orange):
I bought this camera specially for taking pictures during kayak fishing. When you catch a fish from a kayak, for sure your hands are wet, dirty and many things can happen.
The camera is perfect for the situation, is fast to turn on, focus and shoot, in the correct mode scene.
Taking videos is also fine, but not so stable in max tele zooming.
When you activate the GPS option and the mark positioning every minute, even if the camera is turn off, it keeps tracking satellites. So a KML file is generated and could be easily open with Googlemaps. The rowing route and fishing points are directly displays in the map. Really useful option if you want to come back again. The bad new is that battery life (in that mode)could last not more than 3//4 hours.
Wish an option to manually control speed and aperture in certain situations.

Comments about Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Digital Camera (Orange):
I purchased this camera because I work in the Canadian Arctic and needed something robust that could still provide me with high quality pictures. After using it on one trip, I loaned it to my mother for a trip to Europe. I only gave her a short explanation of how to use the camera, and despite her lack of tech knowledge, she had no difficulty whatsoever and managed to take many great shots on her trip. Definitely a great purhase, in my eyes.

Comments about Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Digital Camera (Orange):
I have been using this camera exclusively to take time-lapse shots in a rugged environment, and for this purpose, it has performed extremely well. The interval shooting is easy to configure, and pretty efficient. I can get about 1200 photos on a full battery (with screen off) which seems pretty good to me. In bright light, the photos may appear a little washed out, but overall I am quite happy with the picture quality.

Comments about Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Digital Camera (Orange):
Everything that has been said about this camera on other reviews is true. I'll focus on other characteristics that I noticed.
The green button is customizable, which helps a lot. There is a ton of features regarding pictures modes, some pretty usefull. Knowing your way around those features and the menu takes a while, but it pays off.
The gps works great, but it drains the battery too quickly, because the camera stays on when GPS option is enabled, even when you turn it of. It took my a while to figure this, but once you remember to turn off the GPS option when not using it, the battery life is ok.
