I bought this drive without doing enough research up front. I use it to store RAW photos. I own three other portable WD drives that I have used for quite a while and they have been trouble free. I bought the Hitachi 750G drive because I was under the impression this one would work better, operate faster and be more dependable than my other compact drives with my Macbook Pro. I have realized none of those features except maybe it is slightly faster but not by much. Hard to justify it's higher price and lower capacity when other drives are available that work great, are smaller, cost less, have higher capacity. My other drives also somehow feel more portable and are plug and play. The Hitachi drive comes with a nice leather carry case but all line cords must be removed and carried separately if you choose to use the case then reassemble before use
It also has an off/on switch vs plug and play.

Comments about G-Technology 750GB G-DRIVE mini High-Speed Portable Drive:
My comments are for Mac users, since I really don't know how to use a PC:
No mystery for using the 750GB G-Drive. Plug and use it!
Great product, silent, small and lots of space for editing. Perfect for laptops!
No cons at all.
And it comes with cables, as I said, plug and use!

Comments about G-Technology 750GB G-DRIVE mini High-Speed Portable Drive:
This looks great and sounds like a great product, but mine was really unreliable, it kept unmounting itself randomly. I bought a new one, and the same thing happened with that. It seems to draw too much power, so it might work if you buy a power adapter. I don't recommend anyone buying this.

Comments about G-Technology 750GB G-DRIVE mini High-Speed Portable Drive:
Picked up this drive after using the 1TB Western Digital Studio Passport firewire drive and getting frustrated by dropped frames during video editing. I was trying to save money buying the cheaper Western Digital option but it wasn't worth it. This drive is definitely worth the extra.
This drive is much faster meaning fewer, if any, dropped frames. Sleek design and the two firwire ports are handy for whenever I want to daisy chain the drive with another.
Only con I can thing of is that it isn't offered in a 1TB size.

Use it for video editing. Even using USB instead of the firewire option, it runs flawless although I'm editing pro res files.
Not too loud and very convenient by size.

I bought two of these drives to accomodate HD video files for a video I'm editing. I edit directly from the drives and haven't noticed any problems with bottle-necking. They are quiet since they use no fans, which is also a plus. Solid build quality. No complaints so far.

Comments about G-Technology 750GB G-DRIVE mini High-Speed Portable Drive:
B&H was quick to send and process, and drive came in original packaging. Very pleased with B&H - lowest price I found BUY FROM THEM!!!
The G-drive has surpassed all of my expectations. Because I bought my Macbook Pro with the 128GB Solid State drive I was very limited on space and really needed some extra room with speed.
The whole reason that I got the Macbook was for portability, such is the reason for the mini G-Drive.
PROS: even though the drive isn't rated for it, I use it for iMovie editing and I experienced NO lag, the only time that I had experienced slight lag is when I was playing 2 HD movies and video editing at once. Speed testing runs at half the speed of a solid state drive but nearly 6 times as fast of a rotary drive. NO DOUBT YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH THIS DRIVE
SPEED TEST RATINGS:
Write: 73.5MB/s
SUPER FAST, especially for a portable drive!
Read: 80.9 MB/s
This pretty much shows that this drive will be 5 to 6 times faster than a normal External drive that runs for $80
speed testing done by Black Magic Disk Speed Test with FireWire 800

I use this drive when I go to the [@] for my one to one class. I used to take my full size drives and that was a pain! For the money this 750GB drive is the best deal and it has a 16gb buffer. The 7200 drive is great for video editing. It comes with a great little case.I like how small it is. It looked larger in the photo even though I measured the size several times. I can't find anything wrong with this drive. I LOVE IT !!

Comments about G-Technology 750GB G-DRIVE mini High-Speed Portable Drive:
So far so good. This drive is quiet, fast, very portable, solid and has a heat sync which is nice. I use this for all my Lightroom storage (photos and catalogues) and Lightroom runs faster than it did when the photos were on my computer. Now I can have my library with me wherever I go. Some people complain that the drive has mounting problems, but I think that it has to do with the fact that this drive requires a lot of power and as such, some computers don't pump out enough juice to power the drive via usb or firewire. The drive may still turn on, but it won't show up. That's the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I will probably purchase another one for my video work. I wish they could figure out how to make one larger than 1TB though, without the need for external power.

This is my 2nd G-Drive and it is working wonderfully. They are a bit more but defiantly worth the price. G-Drives are the one of the only hard drives I'll buy (or Glyph) I do a lot of heavy music work and need a reliable drive. This is It. They do get a bit hot but I've never had a problem with it. I'm sure that's why their Heat Syncs are so massive on these drives.

I use this mini High-Speed Portable Drive on multiple Mac Computers for graphics work and back-ups. These Macs are G4, G5, Intel Mac, MacPro. I use USB, Firewire 400, Firewire 800. Sometimes I use it over the network. It has been excellent right out of the box. It is a little pricey compared to other drives, but I have had difficulty reformatting drives made for windows and using them with multiple different macs. This has been excellent right out of the box.

I purchased this drive to assist me in the transition from a PC to a new iMac.
I moved all my files from another flash drive to this one and the transition was fast and flawless.
I could have reformatted this drive and avaided the other flash drive all together, but I got a little lazy. However, that is one of it's great features.
I am also using it as a Thunderbolt backup drive, and it seems to be working very well.
It is a well built component with a very sleek design.
I am very happy with it's perfomance and design.

Just like their larger brothers the mini G-drive is great. Tiny, yet rugged and I appreciate the small carrying case they come with.
I'll likely pick up a couple more of these in the future.
