Not terribly difficult to set up, except the "operating manual" is a big waste of time - it leaves a lot to your imagination.

We must have poked around for 45 minutes trying to find instructions on printing onto a DVD/CD, and never found anything.

Then we tried to print onto a printable DVD from Photoshop, from Word, from Mac's Preview...nothing. The machine wouldn't acknowledge the existence of the DVD tray. We went on the Canon website looking for more detailed instructions, a complete manual, anything. Nothing.

"Never say die" took over and after 90 minutes we doped it out ourselves:

The tiny instruction screen tells you that to print onto a DVD you have to either copy an existing DVD's label or print an image from a flash card / USB thumb drive, etc. (That's not so.) So we copied our JPG image onto a flash drive, plugged it in and the machine didn't recognize it. So we tried it as a PDF - no go. Then we tried a BMP - nothing. (When we'd plug in the flash drive (with ONLY the image file on it) a big Question Mark would come up on the machine's screen.)

We were about to send the machine back to B&H when out of desperation we opened the Canon PhotoPrint EX-400 program that came on the installation disk. No, we didn't want to use it, we wanted to print from Photoshop, but OK. With PhotoPrint you can create your own DVD labels, but we had one already that we wanted to use.

Eventually we clicked through the options until finding a place to insert an existing image. We did it (it came up clipped the first four tries), deleted all the (not-so) helpful text boxes the various templates offer, stretched our image to fit the template, and clicked on Print.

Finally, after honestly an hour and a half, the print process started. A. You can't open the DVD tray until a certain point in the printing process. B. You have to THEN open it and load the DVD tray, etc. Weird.

BUT, the result is very pleasing. (But the process made us want to take a hammer to the machine.)

Now that you know how, follow these instructions and you'll enjoy the machine's features much sooner than we did. It actually prints quite well, and the DVDs come out looking great.

Canon really needs to invest in a detailed, step-by-step manual, though. Desperately!

I use this for home-based art studio business and I do a lot of photography. It used up most of the ink that it came with in a week just going through its "process" but I still have some left. I think a lot of this was just a start-up process and I'm hoping that the new cartridges that I bought in addition won't go this fast... I doubt it.

This printer takes a long time to scan and copy.... As in, it takes a long time to think about what it's about to do and does a song and dance before it actually does it. Once it does warm up or whatever it is trying to do, it then produces nice output and very quickly. I say very quickly because my last printer was a total loser.... slow at everything and cost me more in ink than my electric bill.

I do like how this printer has an encased paper drawer (it's smaller than I was expecting and seems kind of flimsy) but it's nice that it is contained internally. The photo paper feeder is not internal (too bad -- I would have liked that) but it is still nice to separate the two papers.

Overall, I like it. It's probably not the "perfect" printer but from what I've seen in this price range, it's about as close as I'm going to get for what I need. By the way, it doesn't take up too much desk space and the output feeder tray can be shut so it will open automatically when something is sent to print. I like this because it keeps the dust out and I can send something to print from the studio downstairs through the blue tooth. Oh, lastly... I have no idea what that plastic CD holder thing is that came with the printer. It doesn't give any instructions on how to use it or what it is for????

Comments about Canon PIXMA MG8220 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One:

This is really hard to get. I needed it in December 2011, so I asked B&H to email when they had stock. The email arrived on May 25, 2012. A day after I requested the email, I checked online and found that some local office stores had it in stock so I bought it there.

Easy setup. I used ethernet to connect and this made it available to all of my IOS devices. Printing on inkjet paper is excellent as is glossy photo paper. I use a Mac with Lion. Scanning into Adobe PS 5 or 6 requires 64-bit scanning. The Canon plug-in is only 32-bit and there is no way to run it in Lion without opening PS in 32-bit mode.

Scanning from the canon app gives good results. The ability to scan mounted slides and negatives or positives is exceptional. You scan four slides at a time, using canon's software.

Printing a DVD/BR disc is not easy and has limited graphics options. It does save your image for changes. Each print requires you to have the DVD door closed and then the printer display tells you when to open it and insert the disc. Quality is excellent.

If you connect with any cable other than USB, you cannot see supply levels on screen. The printer display will show this info. Generic cartridges from the usual sources (M) seem fine and sell for under a buck each. The cartridges that come with the printer are only half filled.

Download all of the latest manuals and software from the Canon site and call if you have a problem.

Comments about Canon PIXMA MG8220 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One:

There are many printers you can get for much less money, but if you are looking for one with excellent photo printing with professional quality, and if you would like a scanner with professional options, this is the printer you should have on your desk. I use this with MAC Lion, and the drivers on the Install DVD have just what you need for an easy intstall. Prior to this printer, I had the Pixma MG 8120, so when I decided to get another printer, I did not need to look any farther than the 8220. This printer will print onto printable DVDs and it will scan slides and negatives. Those are hard-to-find options. I highly recommend this printer, especially to those of you who are working seriously with photos. At the same time, there is no trick for the beginners to use this printer with ease.

Comments about Canon PIXMA MG8220 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One:

I am just a photo hobbyist-not a professional. I was interested in a quality printer since my current printer is 9 years old.

I really didn't want a all-in-one version, but I also didn't want to get into the $900 range for a dedicated quality printer.

Anyway, the printer seems to be doing a good print job. It is easy to operate as far as the control buttons go.Print cartridges are expensive, but aren't they all.

Its a big monster, but I looked up the measurements before I purchased it-so no one to blame but me.

        On the downside,no written documentation.

Recently purchased a new HP color laserjet to replace my old 2600n with many miles. The new version was horrible, and within a month I knew it needed to be replaced.

Many friends had told my to try Canon, but I was reluctant. This MG8220 sold me. Network attached, solid stable drivers for both Mac and PC, remote scanning (with film!) and inexpensive supplies. Couldn't be happier. I reserved one star because the first page takes a bit to print, but fast for the remainder of pages.

I bought this printer mainly to print DVD's. The software has a variety of templates, but to create your own text lacks the ability to curve the text on the DVD. It is really bad it you import an image and to get it centered on the DVD. (rating poor on that one). Does print nice pictures directly from my SD chip (providing it is a good image not needing editing).

Comments about Canon PIXMA MG8220 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One:

Bought mine a couple weeks ago. We use it for general internet printing, printing photos, and craft printing including greeting cards and scrapbooking. Documents scan well but Haven't done any film yet. Plan to scan some of our 35mm negatives.

Overall, it's a great printer with great print quality. I don't think the price of the ink cartidges is too expensive either. But it depends on how long they last. Haven't had it long enough to tell yet.

                    Pros:
                    - Auto duplex feature is very nice
                    - The touch buttons (or lack thereof!!) is really excellent and kinda futuristic!
                    - It was VERY easy to set up.
                    - You can choose between wired and wireless connection which means you can put it anywhere you want so long as you have wi-fi signal from your home network.

                    Cons:
                    - I'm accustomed to printing in "Draft" mode to save ink. I don't see that option.
                    - Bluetooth (so you can print from iPhone) requires an extra adapter priced $40-45.
                    - I wish it had a document feeder for copies, but I knew that when I bought it. You can still scan multiple pages into one PDF...just have to switch out the pages manually.

Comments about Canon PIXMA MG8220 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One:
