Vegas Movie Studio HD 11 from Sony puts professional video editing power in your hands, but perhaps more importantly, its actively helpful user interface will have you cutting, adding effects, and publishing finished movies in no time. The software is drag-and-drop simple, but powerful enough to edit HD video and preview any of the hundreds of included effects & transitions in real time.
Useful effects include red-eye removal, image stabilization for shaky footage, and cropping & panning across still images for a "Ken Burns effect." Movie Studio HD 11 even makes it easy to execute tasks that are usually considered professional-level, such as AV synch repair, title animation, multichannel (5.1) audio editing, and greenscreen removal. It can handle any of the file types you're likely to want to edit – DV, AVCHD, HDV, video from DSLR cameras – and edits a variety of different frame rates (even 24p, 50p & 60p).
Once you've cut your movie and added effects, music & a voiceover, Vegas Movie Studio HD 11 makes it easy to optimize your finished video for any playback device, such as iPod, PSPs, DVD players, and for social-networking sites like Facebook. Or upload directly to YouTube from within the software.
Use Vegas Movie Studio HD software to add special effects, transitions, titles, and music to your video and slideshows. Zoom, rotate, and pan across photos to animate still images in your movies. You can use the software to commemorate special events such as weddings and anniversaries, or create exciting, professional-looking business presentations

Comments about Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 11:
I bought this as an upgrade direct from Sony. I'm not a newbie, have been doing serious video editing for over 10 years.
First I will say although I haven't used it much, the software itself isn't bad... it's the company behind it, the addons and their lack of customer service.
My version had an addon from Hitfilm and one from NewBlue (which I also had on v9.0)
First complaint is, I bought this boxed and paid extra because I live in a rural area where no cable is available, so didn't want to download a huge file on my limited satellite bandwidth connection. Well as soon as it was installed it prompted me to download an update which was 162MB in size. had I known that I would have saved some $$ and downloaded the original and not used my bandwidth.
Then, you have to go through multiple registrations online which wasn't working right... one of the numbers was illegible in my copy for Vegas, and the Hitfilm website was not working right, which forces you to sign up there and I had all kinds of issues with their registration process.
Then once you go through all this... whenever you go to use some of the features such as NewBlue a nag screen pops up in your face trying to sell you some other junk.
I used to write shareware and it was considered bad practice and rude to put nag screens even on freeware, nevermind software you paid for put out by a major company.
I think this software should be free, since it is essentially advertiser supported.
So then I remitted a complaint to Sony about this asking for a refund and of course they will not give you a refund once the package is opened which didn't really surprise me, but how the Heck is anyone to know if they like the item until they try it? I guess if you like the pretty box you can decide to send it back or not.
Well... I had all but forgotten about my complaint but to my surprise I got a response from Sony... 2 weeks later!!! What legitimate company that cares about their products and image takes 2 weeks to respond?
Their response struck me as being arrogant, assuming I don't know that there are 3 addons from different companies, stating that they make it clear an Internet connection is required and that you don't HAVE to update (I have an Internet connection, THEY didn't read and pay attention), and the response made it sound like I never used software or didn't know what I was doing.
I dare say, I wrote software going back to when MSDOS was the operating system... (over 50 programs), have worked with a number of editing software packages over the years and many, many other programs.
So the only reason I gave this ANY stars was that the software itself may not be bad, but forget about support, and maybe you'll download an update one day and every time you start your computer a nag screen will come up trying to sell you something else.
I used to like Sony products but after this... no more. I will deter anyone I can from using these products and post reviews in a lot of very popular places.... bye Sony

I'm making an amateur documentary and Vegas Studio is very easy to use and comes loaded with lots of extra features. It's nice to have more than one sound line in the time-line - so I can add music along with the original broadcast sound.

This is a very user friendly video editing software. I bought it thinking that I could run it smoothly on my computer since I met the minimum system requirements, but after the install I had to upgrade my machine. Two GB of RAM is the minimum; however I recommend at least six so that you can edit quickly and smoothly. The program does a great job, but I suspect it is being discontinued to direct folks toward the Platinum version, which burns DVDs too. I would have opted for the that option too if I would have known that it it didn't have a DVD burn component.

Comments about Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 11:
I don't agree with the last reviewer, it does have a render to hard drive, under the make a movie button. Look again. This is better because it accepts many formats without having to convert them first. Has flaws, but best for the buck.

It is a pretty good editing program although a bit complicated and not always intuitive if you are used to other programs, like final cut pro.
The BIG disappointment is that you cannot burn your project to disk, for that you have to buy the platinum(?)version. Wish I had known.

I am a video hobbyist. Although I own a nicer camera, I am using a Kodak PlaySport most often these days. I needed a video editor that could handle newer codecs natively, and Vegas Studio 11 does the trick. Having worked with an older, pro version of Vegas, it was a simple switch. The layout and menus are basically the same. You are limited to 3 video tracks, but that's enough for me. If you are using an older computer, make sure that Vegas is not attempting to use multiple processors (under "Preferences"). I was experiencing frequent crashes until I changed the setting from "4" to "1." Obviously, the more powerful your computer, the smoother your video editing experience will be.
There are other apps out there that can do what I need, but I like the way Vegas thinks. Compared to ArcSoft (which shipped with my PlaySport and is weak and clumsy), Windows Movie Maker, and Magix Movie Edit Pro, Vegas Studio 11 is just easier to use. And if you ever plan to upgrade to the Pro version, you will already know how to use it. If you're on a tight budget, Vegas Studio 11 is a sure bet.

This is the low end of sonys vegas movie studio. It has enough features to make a decent home version production but is bare bones vs. the upper version. Great price for a decent setup.
