The ASUS PA238Q 23" LCD Widescreen Computer Display is a budget-friendly monitor that utilizes In-Plane Switching and that boasts 100% sRGB coverage. That translates into a wide color gamut with reproduction of 16.7 million colors. The display is factory color-calibrated and has a Delta E value of less than 5, both of which ensure precise reading of color input and excellent color fidelity. Plus, the 178° wide viewing angle prevents color shift from occurring on the screen, no matter what angle you're looking from.
The display also features a 10-bit Look-up Table. That means that RGB colors have greater depth and smoother gradation than conventional monitors. There's also the QuickFit virtual scale which superimposes a grid on top of documents that you are viewing. This scale is to help you see your documents on the screen in their actual size and is good for precise viewing and editing. Other highlights include customized color adjustment and picture-in-picture capabilities. Ergonomically, the PA238Q adjusts to fit your needs with swivel, pivot, tilt, and height adjustments. In hooking the screen up to a computer, you can use one of the following connections: DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI, and D-sub. It also comes with four USB 2.0 ports for connecting USB drives, a keyboard, mouse, digital camera, and more.

I alternatively hook this monitor to my desktop and laptop. Desktop via VGA, laptop via HDMI. I had to buy the HDMI cable separately. This monitor DID NOT come with an HDMI cable, although it had one for every other port including DisplayPort, VGA and DVI. I use it mostly as a single screen, since its proportions are way out of sync with my tiny 13" laptop to be used in a dual fashion. I use it for coding, designing (Photoshop / Illustrator), playing games (NFS HP 2010, Batman AA) and watching films (Netflix and Hulu as well as files on disk).
I love how big it is: I have a 22" at work and this 23" looks significantly bigger. The IPS screen has nice color reproduction and viewing angles. It has a neat response time, and I don't see any ghosting in my games. I love the stand, which is very unique and one of the best I've ever seen. I like the thin bezel, which just blends out when looking at the screen. I like the USB dock feature, using which I've connected a mouse and keyboard to the monitor, and then I can easily switch between my laptop and desktop and have the same working environment. The cm and inch grid is a nice feature, but I don't really use it.
I dislike the light bleed I get near bottom right and top left. This is especially pronounced when watching movies in the dark. Doesn't really bother me for any other activity though. Also, while it picked up the text perfectly in Linux, the first time I started Windows 8 (Dev Preview) I had to adjust the phase and offset for screen sharpness to make the text readable. Worked fine out of the box on Windows 7 though. I also wish it came with an HDMI cable, and at least 2 HDMI ports.
Bottom line: I think it's a great buy for its price. Without the light bleed, it would be absolutely perfect.

this monitor has great features for the price. without going through a list available elsewhere, the monitor seems to run cool, is low profile, great color, white uniformity is great and solid blacks from my nonscientific observation. the monitor is calibrated out of the box and pairs well with os x. the colors look fantastic! my only issues is a strip of backlight bleeding visible only in dark scenes of movies and when using a dark background image. this is either a QC issue or is an inherent technological issue with lcd's or i got a slightly defective unit. but i can live with it. the other issue is the quality of construction and type of plastic that is used to dress this wonderful ips display. at least, the plastic is not glossy like 90% of the monitors out there under a certain budget. otherwise, i recommend this monitor if you are looking for an ips display that is under[$]. other things i notice is that the antiglare screen is great and seems suitable for gaming as well as photo and video editing.

Comments about ASUS PA238Q 23" LCD Widescreen Computer Display:
The ASUS PA238Q 23" LCD Widescreen Computer Display is simply the best desktop display I have seen thus far. From all your connectivity options, to screen quality, color accuracy, the fiscal screen angle or high adjustment, everything works easily and smooth and you can feel the difference of the high quality components the screen is build out of.
For me, I am a guy who always looks at best value for my money (bang for buck) and I went out of my comfort zone to buy the screen simply because it has an IPS panel and quality was relatively assured. I accepted this as being a quality purchase and not a bang for buck purchase as this is quite an expensive screen!! Needless to say, after only one day on this screen my opinion changed, even at this price point this is a decent bang for buck screen because off all its pros. Cons are non existent although a little lower price would have been nice and some sort of device to fix the axis of your screen in order for it not to move as soon as you pick it up or move the screen around.
I would highly recommend getting this product if your budget allows or even if you can stretch your budget to allow it.

Great picture quality with very accurate colors for photo processing.! Very sturdy base and well constructed. This is the third monitor I bought and finally settled on. First was an LG, and the second was an HP. Picture color accuracy was horrible. Both were returned to [@]. I read the reviews on this Asus and purchased from B&H. Great service and fast shipping.

This is an IPS monitor with a factory calibration promised to be within 5% of the sRGB standard. It comes with lots of connection options and cables and seems to be well designed and built. The only issues I have thus far are that the sRBG calibrated mode reduces brightness quite significantly, and that using the audio out when connected from computer via HDMI or DisplayPort cable introduces noises thru speakers. I am considering getting warranty support on the audio noise...

Asus put this monitor on the market far sooner than it should have been. The backlight bleed issues are far too numerous. I have the same massive backlight bleed problem. I'm so amazed that Asus would actually call this monitor "Pro Art." What's even worse, for me at least, is when I sent it back I was told, and I quote, "NTF" (no trouble found). Absolutely amazing. I gave it one star only because my review would not be allowed with ZERO stars!

Im an industrial designer and works also with graphics and web presentations. As many of you color accuracy is a most for me.
After a lot of researching I have purchased this unit instead VP2365'L
Asus did a great job with color accuracy but miss the Light bleeding. If you don't mind about it the PA238Q is a great choice.
Personally I have returned the unit and Purchased the Viewsonic.
Very happy with my final decision.

Vary accurate as long as it is calibrated with an external calibration device. Great for photo editing because it has true sRGB coverage. I wanted a monitor that would not need calibration - this is calibrated from the factory, but was not accurate to use with my computer.

I've had this monitor for a little over a week now and the performance has been flawless. I use Photoshop CS5 for editing RAW files from my Canon 7D. The monitor is very bright and was easy to calibrate using the Spyder3Pro.

Comments about ASUS PA238Q 23" LCD Widescreen Computer Display:
I don't think it deserves to be called a professional monitor. It is just an average monitor with bad bleeding corners. Color is very dull. Not worth the premium price.
If you have extra cash, get a PA246Q. Otherwise, stick to TN or mva/pva or other non-LED IPS.

Comments about ASUS PA238Q 23" LCD Widescreen Computer Display:
i was looking for a budget (sub $300) ips monitor to hook up my macbook pro for photo & video editing at home. i found 3 such monitors in this price range with ips displays--the asus pa238q, hp zr22w and the nec ea232wmi (not in stock). i chose the asus because it was the newest product. it's so new that b&h doesn't even have any specifications for it nor reviews. so, i thought i'd be the first... first, i am impressed with this product. for the price, asus shipped a handful of cables (dvi, vga & displayport, usb) but unfortunately, no displayport to mini displayport cable which is what i needed for my macbook pro. so, i had to cough up an extra $27 to get a dvi-mini dp port adapter from the nearest store as i didn't wanna have to wait for an online order. so, after said adapter was acquired, i was able to hook up the monitor. immediately, i was impressed with the colors and clarity of the 16:9 screen. it matched and exceeded the screen on the mid-2010 macbook pro, which i love, by the way. by match, i mean, the colors and temperatures (out of the box) are the same as my mbp, so they can be used side by side more ideally. and the pa238q exceeds my mbp screen in viewing angles because of the ips display. the screen also seems to give good uniformity throughout the entire area of the screen, which helps in photo and image editing.* with that said, there are some things getting used to with this monitor. 1) i have to get used to the 16:9 format. already, though, i am beginning to adapt during day 2 of using this monitor. for example, i can fit two web browser windows side-by-side. and watching movies on this 16:9 monitor negates the black borders on the top and bottom.2) i have to get used to (unless i opt to return it) to some back light bleeding that i notice more when watching a movie. it is noticeable on my monitor from the top-right and top-left corner and forms a diamond shape cast on the screen. it's kind of odd and kind of annoying but disappears when i am not paying attention to it.*3) i don't notice the diamond-shape back light when i am on the desktop and using the computer normally. so, photo & video editing seems unaffected. even when i am browsing the web--the back light is not noticeable. it is only when i watch a movie for some reason. anyway, i am keeping an eye on it. hopefully, this is something i can live with as i don't really wanna have to return it because everything else about this monitor is great and who is to say that the replacement monitor won't have worse problems? so, i am going to give it a few more days and see what comes of it since i am not sure if there is any way to circumvent the issues of back lighting since it seems to me, more like inherent technological issue. i gave it just 4 stars because of the back light issue. otherwise, it would have been a 5.
