The Sunpak VL-LED-96 Compact Video Light provides high-power illumination for your camcorder or HDSLR camera with 96 ultra-bright LEDs. It also helps in capturing high-quality images in standard 4:3 and wide 16:9 HD formats. The LEDs emit a rich warm light and never heat up, no matter how long you have the light on.
This ultra-compact Video Light helps deliver better color, contrast and clarity when shooting video even in low-light situations. It comes with a convenient shoe or standard 1/4" x 20 mount that makes the light compatible with all HDSLR cameras and camcorders.
Powered by four alkaline / Ni-MH batteries, the compact video light ensures increased light output without the weight of added batteries. In addition to a variable power output control, the video light features a color 3500° K color correction filter and soft-light diffuser.

I've been looking for a decent video light and after reading Videomaker magazines impressions of the new line of Sunpak LED lights decided to look into them at B&H. I selected two of the VL-LED-96 models to test out and found them to be just what I needed for fill light inside when just a bit more of light was needed to avoid video grain in the shadow areas. I've used them outside in the evening to photograph some spectacular plants. They are also useful for macro shooting. Being able to control the intensity of the light lets me add just the right amount of fill light to the dark areas of subjects being photographed with a macro attachment. Light weight they use easy to find triple A batteries and the unit itself seems to be well constructed.

This light works awesome for night videos as long as your subject(s) is no further than 15 feet away. I taped Nestor Torres playing a private garden party at night and the video came out "acceptable". However, the light was useless when locked into the hot shoe on my Canon 20D. I was better off using the on-camera pop-up flash for the still photography.

I found that this product is poorly fabricated and cheap. The platic, button and overall quality are simply not there.

Comments about Sunpak VL-LED-96 Compact Video Light:
Makes me very happy to be behind the camera.
I'm using this to shoot video--event/performance documentation, documentary--and besides the horrible squinting it induces in unprepared subjects, it's a nice little light.
Some things to note--
- This thing is big. Almost exactly as wide as my T3i--which could be a problem if you don't like bulky things.
- The dimmer dial doesn't really do much for me. Range goes from very bright to slightly brighter than very bright.
Otherwise, battery life is good, mounts easily and securely, and blinding people at concerts is better than grainy mid-shelf DSLR video.

I use the light on my canon xa10. Usually i am out in parks filming snowboarding at night where there is little to no light. The one thing i would change is to have the light be able to tilt.

I'm a pro videographer and needed a small but powerful light to take on the road. This is a great addition to my kit. The included 250w lamp is great, and I love the light's versitility to use less wattage bulbs. Great light focussing too. I definitely recommend this. Just buy the barndoors too.

Comments about Sunpak VL-LED-96 Compact Video Light:
The power of the light is great! The only issue I have with the light is that the pin on the bottom of the light keeps getting stuck! The pin is to release the filter's that come with the light.. It's a simple fix if you want to take your light a part but as soon a you try and replace the filter agian it will get stuck agian.. Now if you want to get around the pin and you want to get the filter out just press on the filter and push up and slide out and it will bypass the pin! I like the light and it's easy to use!
