The MONARCH 3 All Terrain 8x42 Binocular from Nikon has been engineered to extend the window of time for staying out in the field by inserting bright, high-contrast, high-resolution optics into a rugged, waterproof and fogproof body. With fully multicoated Nikon Eco-Glass lenses incorporating phase-corrected and highly reflective silver-alloy multilayer prism coatings, the MONARCH 3 provides excellent light transmission and resolution for dawn to dusk glassing. Long eye relief of 24.1 mm combined with multi-click turn-and-slide rubber eyecups, makes the MONARCH 3 8x42 extremely user-friendly and suited for virtually any hunting situation.
Weighing-in at just 24.9 ounces, the MONARCH 3 8x42 is fully rubber armored for maximum durability and wet-or-dry grip. It includes unique, flip-down rubber lens covers to protect the 42 mm objective lenses from scratches and dirt.

The binoculars made the birds pop into view - and really easy to focus quickly. Even managed to see a moon of Jupiter, although I know that is not what they are designed for.
Overall I am very happy with the compact design and lightness of the binoculars.
The only downside is that they shipped with one of the plastic carriers for the strap snapped, so they must have some fragility.
