Western Digital 1TB My Passport Studio Portable Hard Drive for Mac
The Western Digital 1TB My Passport Studio Portable Hard Drive for Mac is a highly-portable, high-capacity hard drive designed to accompany you and your Mac when you travel. Outfitted with an anodized aluminum enclosure, this drive matches the aesthetic of your MacBook or MacBook Air and provides you with up to 1TB storage. It features two FireWire 800 ports for fast data transfers and one USB 2.0 port for added connectivity. All of these ports also supply the drive with power so you don't need to lug around a power supply.
In addition to these features, the drive can backup your data in Apple Time Machine and can be reformatted to work with Windows computers. The preloaded WD Drive Utilities and WD Security software are an added bonus for managing your drive and protecting its data.

I was almost out of room on my iMac and need a place to move my images. The My Passport is a perfect solution. I was able to grab my photo folder and drag it to My Passport and walk away. The folder was huge and I stepped out to dinner. By my return a few hours later to my surprise the transfer was complete. My Mac is like new again with all the free space. I highly recommend this drive and you can't bet the price. Also if you ever change your computer you can just grab your drive and go. This is the perfect product if you are a photographer.

Use several of these, one each for the type of data (e.g photo, video, backup) the 2nd FireWire port for daisy link of another drive is the clincher, this enables access of all drives simultaneously on a computer with only one FireWire port. It runs a bit warmer than the model it replaced though.

This was the easiest hookup ever! I used the included Firewire 800 cable to connect the drive to my MacBook Pro and after following the simple instructions, I was done -- all in 2 minutes or less. The drive is very quiet. I now have peace of mind that my entire photo colection is backed up with no extra effort on my part. Also, the drive is very small, so you can take it with your laptop if you go on travel. There is a USB cable, as well to connect if you do not have a Firewire 800 port.

With a MacBook Pro, I connected it to firewire and I had a 1T storage available in the next second. I use it to save my photos and work with photoshop images of 100M.
The surprise: it is very fast compared to the other drives I had before, including from earlier WD passports. I have no idea how it works, but it is even better than what I had expected.
It runs with the battery of the Mac, without too much drainage.
