The Portege R835-P81 13.3" Notebook Computer (Blue) from Toshiba is a thin and lightweight portable notebook computer. It has a 13.3" TruBrite display with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the standard for HDTVs. The 1366 x 768 native resolution is supported by integrated Intel HD graphics.
This Toshiba notebook has a HDMI port so you can connect to a larger external display, such as a HD monitor or HDTV. If you want to forgo the single HDMI cable (sold separately), this Toshiba is compatible with Intel Wireless Display 2.1 technology (WiDi 2.1) and compliant TV adapters (also sold separately).
The system is powered by a dual-core 2.4GHz Intel Core i5-2435M processor. It also comes with 6GB of DDR3 RAM, a 640GB 5400rpm hard drive, a SuperMulti DVD burner, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, an integrated webcam and microphone as well as built-in stereo speakers. Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) is the installed operating system.

I use the coputer as a 2nd computer that I can readily take with me when I leave home for the day or longer as well as in the home usually in the evenings for e-mail updates and certain websites I go to daily to check the status o f my account. I travel about half the month and am always looking for ways to lighten my bags. For the past few years I have carried an Acer netbook. While it fit the need for weight, it lacked what a "real" laptop could provide. I was too cheap to buy the light weight Sony, but had a co worker with a Portege and he loved it.. I have had Toshiba laptops in the past and my only complaint was the weight. This fit my need for weight, computing speed, Dvd drive, long battery life, and price.

This about the fifth or sixth Toshiba laptop I've owned. I have had good experience in terms of dependability and performance; the R835-p81 is no exception. Extremely light weight and portable - plenty of speed and storage for my needs. The price at B&H was the best I could find anywhere and makes this laptop a great value.

This was just the right price for a good portable machine. While the battery life is not as good as my slightly older laptop, this machine makes up for it with processing power (Core i5) and the addition of the DVD Burner. Powerful memory (6GB) and storage (620GB) make this an all around portable powerhouse. Construction is solid and is holding up well.

I'm a 3rd year Education student that was looking to replace my Asus ul30vt. Toshiba have really outdone themselves on this unit. i5/6gb ram/640gb hdd/13.3' all for under 1.4kg WITH A DVD DRIVE is an engineering marvel. If it was a little thinner, it could probably even be classed as an ultra book.
The magnesium alloy case gives it a higher class finish than the usual plastic cases you see on other models and I can only assume helps with keeping the total weight down.
People say the 640gb hdd is quite slow, but on initial tests so far, it has been quite snappy, both in starting up and shutting down as well of course, using it in day to day activities. That being said, if you can spare the cash, go the ssd because 1) it will help you battery life, 2) it helps reduce weight further, and 3) decreases the overall time windows 7 takes to do anything.
One thing I will miss coming from the ul30vt to this is the dedicated graphics. The ul30vt had a 1gb Nvidia graphics card in it, this one had an intel hd 3000 chip in it. Apparently this chipset is good enough to run dirt 3 on medium, but at the end of the day, if you are like me and usually only use your laptop for study, this is a non issue.

Have only had the laptop a couple weeks and so far it's all the reviews claimed it to be. Lightweight, super portable, it fits nicely in my bag and still leaves space for books, etc. Hooking up to my home network was easy and straightforward.
