I purchased my tablet as a personal Christmas present. I have spent the last 2 years looking for the tablet that is bigger than 7", smaller than 10.1" and didn't cost an arm & a leg for the limited capabilities tablets offer. I went to [@] to check all products provided outside of Apple and Samsung to include Sony, Asus, Acer, Pandigital, Coby, etc. At last, with Archos 80 G9 I find a reasonably priced, dual core, HD, expandable, capacitative and GPS and with the latest Android OS (3.2 Honeycomb)tablet! I have already downloaded 30 apps (outside the ones that are already included) and all of them run flawlessly.I have been streaming Netflix movies from my tablet to my TV and use my cell phone as my remote control to the tablet! This feature is great from when I travel. Yes, Sony and Samsung offer the same. But again, I get it at half the price. The first thing the buyer will notice is that it does not have a rear camera. I am fine with it because I have a video camera to record videos, if that's what I'm looking to do. It does have a front facing camera and that has met my need. Excellent product! The battery life is excellent. Watching two movies and playing games, I went to days with out charging. However, I am a techy, so I know to turn off services when I'm not using them. That's how you get the most out of any battery.

Comments about Archos 8GB 80 G9 Android 8" Tablet:
I use this product for email, chatting, internet, apps, and games. A couple of things I like about this tablet are that it is really fast for the price, it is easy to uninstall programs, and it also is compatible with android ice cream sand wich, which I like a lot better than honeycomb. The only problems with it are that sometimes it freezes up and restarts itself, and other times it just freezes up and I have to force shut down or reset it. I would say the battery life is good for the device having a dual-core processor. It is kind of hard to find accessories for the device as 8" tablets, but I dont really worry about that too much; I just try to find generic products that would fit my device and go with that.

Comments about Archos 8GB 80 G9 Android 8" Tablet:
I have the Archos 80 G9 Android 8" 8GB Tablet. People buy a $200-$250 tablet and expect it to outperform a $500+ tablet. That's not fair. There's a reason they're priced where they are. And as far as I'm concerned, this is the best bang for your buck. It runs smoothly, has all the ports of higher end tablets - mini usb, headphones, mini hdmi, and I even read that where the 3G stick is on the back (for the European countries) you can use that as a USB connection, which is essentially what it is so it makes sense. Although I have not tried that out yet. True, there are a few minor issues. The volume rocker could be better placed (maybe on the top if you're holding it oblong, or on the right when holding it upright), but that's a very minor issue. Mine does not suffer from the screen defect that I read so much about prior to getting mine so I was thankful for that. Also, the battery life on mine isn't quite as good as some of the reviews I read but it's sufficient. But performance wise, this tablet holds its own against any out there. I love the fact that it has a built in media server. I have movies on my desktop computer at home, and was able to stream those (while on the same WiFi network) on my tablet while laying in bed. What a nice feature! The kickstand is great as well. I don't understand the gripe about not having a back facing camera - Not really necessary in my opinion and also part of the price cut! But yes, the front camera leaves a lot to be desired. Still a great tablet though. As soon as I got it, it notified me to update to the newest Android OS - Ice Cream Sandwich. It's currently running firmware v4.0.5 and it runs extremely smooth. For some reason, it crashed a few times the first couple of days I had it but hasn't since. If you're reasonable with your expectations at all you will NOT be disappointed, and probably somewhat pleasantly surprised. I also uploaded some picture files to it and was happy to discover that it comes with some pretty decent photo editing features straight out of the box. You'll love what you're getting in this price range.

As a piece of hardware it's very responsive, robust and solid. It's hefty, but I prefer that to something that feels like plastic. Only found a couple of glitches, but I suspect those to be android related. I would highly recommend

Wife and I are both big readers. Both of us had Kindles for reading and laptops (on trips) for email. I bought one of these a while back and pretty much retired both the Kindle and the laptop. On a recent rrip, I let my wife use my Archos to read using Kindle For PC app. She LOVED the larger, backlit screen! We both have Android phones, so almost no learning curve.

A solid Android 3.2 dual core tablet. Everything works as expected, and the form factor works for me. I like the connectivity! The kickstand is an added nicety. The "screen defect" is only a minor issue for me, if I notice it I just move my finger on the back and it's gone. For the price It's a "real" tablet computer not a "toy".
