The hat mount took me a few minutes to attach to the hat at first... the objective is to get it positioned forward or aft on the side of hat for the proper forward viewing angle. I had tried to orient the camera mount so the camera also had the correct view vertically as well, but after it was attached, I realized I can actually rotate the part that shows on the exterior side of the hat within its mount which is on the interior of the hat. There is a small problem that results from doing this rotation while on the hat in that I used a pretty nice hat and the ratcheting movement caused some small amount of abrasion damage to the fabric of the hat, so this is not something to do repeatedly if possible and you are mounting it on hat you care about. I'd just use a hat of lessor value - then it is not a problem. I took a few videos with this setup and the perspective is pretty cool. The camera is not so heavy that its weight causes the hat to creap downward with use, that was nice; however I am not so sure that the two pieces will not separate at some inopportune time yet and allow the camera to fall off with the exterior portion of the mount still attached to the camera, so I would not yet be comfortable with some wild sports where the camera would be damaged from a fall if this happened. If it proves to stay together in use, I would rate it 5 stars instead of the 4 I've given it. Great price and value.
