Comments about Buffalo 6TB LinkStation Pro Duo LS-WVL/R1 Network Hard Drive Array:
I have used a NAS for several years now, as a destination for nightly backups and for long-term storage of photos and downloaded software. The LinkStation was purchased to expand my storage from 1TB to 3TB.
Out of the box, the LinkStation is configured as RAID 0, which gives you nearly 6TB of storage, but no redundancy. Before I did anything else, I reconfigured for RAID 1, resulting in 3TB of storage. The RAID array rebuild took almost 24 hours but you can still setup and access folders during this time.
I setup the DLNA server and uploaded some photos, which I could view on my connected DLNA clients with no problem. Did not setup the FTP server or iTunes server.
Very compact, very quiet. I would highly recommend this system for anyone looking for reliable on-line storage for their home network.
