Vegas Pro 11 from Sony is a professional video editing software package that includes the Dolby Digital Professional Encoder (for 5.1 surround sound encoding) and DVD Architect Pro 5.2 for Blu-ray Disc and DVD authoring. Featuring extensive native support for video formats up to and including 4096 x 4096 resolution, the video-editing side of the software allows you to work easily – without re-wrapping or transcoding – with a variety of professional formats such as AVCHD, XDCAM EX, RED R3D, and more. As extensive as its feature set is, and as flexible and customizable the workflow, Vegas Pro 11 remains an approachable NLE, with simple, drag & drop operations for many editing tasks to go along with sophisticated options for ripple editing models.
With its full support for stereoscopic 3D editing, comprehensive multi-track audio editing & recording environment, and GPU-accelerated rendering & real-time effects preview, Vegas Pro 11 is worthy of consideration for any professional video editor working on the Windows platform. There's little you can't do, as the software provides just about every tool you need to import video (including video & RAW files from DSLR cameras and almost every popular configuration of left-eye/right-eye 3D footage), monitor it, edit it, edit audio & create mixes, add effects, transitions & titles, render with the help of an OpenCL-compatible graphics card (sold separately), and output projects as web-friendly AVC & MP4 files and as professionally authored DVDs & Blu-ray Discs.
Like the remarkably full-featured disc-authoring features, the audio-production capabilities of Vegas Pro 11 are truly first-rate, especially for an NLE package. There's support for unlimited tracks, 5.1 surround-sound mixing and encoding to AC3 via the Dolby Digital Professional Encoder, and a multithreaded audio engine that maximizes the available resources of your system to render projects quickly and enable the real-time preview of large numbers of tracks.
Version 11 of the software package introduces a wealth of features, such as easy image stabilization, support for GPU acceleration, two titling tools for both 2D and 3D titles, and stereoscopic editing tools that let you correct screen-edge violations easily.

Comments about Sony Vegas Pro 11:
We need more
Simply because we are editors and we have no time to spend continuing to try to work on a platform full of old problems.
We all know that 11 Vegas is a great tool but we know that Sony can no longer, for example can solve this ancient problem of the backwardness in displaying images when we need to see the "Preview" and produce a version to run on Mac, had a hundred other little things that will gradually leaving all upset and tired but no doubt just because we want to criticize a move towards what I call the best editing software in the world.

Comments about Sony Vegas Pro 11:
I mainly edit music videos and short youtube films with Sony Vegas 11, and it's worked great for me. It's nearly identical to the final cut pro layout that I trained on in film school which makes life easier for me. I use DSLR video files to edit and I can scrub through the footage fairly smoothly. It's a great choice if you want a lot of perks and effects(though some are a little tacky) without spending the extra money for the Adobe set. I give it a strong A-.

Comments about Sony Vegas Pro 11:
Whats the warranty? Bought the product some 5 months ago. I reported crashes, and errors with their bug system. Sony Vegas gave some notion that they have fixed the problem, and will be avail in the next release. Little did I know that next release is a major release, and to get the version 11 upgrade would cost me another 200 bucks. They simply stopped making repairs to version 10. They simply erased the unfixed issues with a try the problem with the new version, and report back to us if there is still an issue.
So where is my warranty?
Has some issues with non-ntsc material ( ie AVCHD ). color ranges ( 0-256 ) are not fully supported. rendering to an avchd only went to 16Mhz, as 25Mhz crashed.
Although you can create a blu-ray, format is like that of a DVD. Java programming does not exist.
For HD AVCHD, you really need a fast multi-core processor. Otherwise you will spend all day for a 1 hour video render.

This software is GREAT!! It is easier to use than anything I have ever worked with before. It has all of the pro features. 3D work is so simple a baby could do it and have good results. To me it beats final cut. You have the ability to render in ANY FORMAT there is. Plus it handles any resolution you can give it. It is over all GREAT AND THE BEST.

Comments about Sony Vegas Pro 11:
Ive tried tons of editing software and this is by far the best. Costs more but you get what you pay for. This is not for amatuers. It is complex compositing software and eveything is built up in layers so unless you plan to know it intimately, you might go with cheaper user friendly editing software. I myself love the flexibility. One con is that is doesn't come with a ton of presets. You really need to invest in separate software to do professional compositing

I have been on Vegas pro 8 for a few years now and jumping to this was was like getting a twinturbo setup on my car. Its so easy and my work flow is so much faster. A job that would take me 3 days now gets done in a day and half. Almost no delay when working with dslr footage and I only have a sony laptop that cost me $1000 two years ago. Its a very well improved program and highly recommend it to everyone.

Comments about Sony Vegas Pro 11:
The new GPU acceleration in this product makes me really happy I purchased the AMD V5800 video card. With the GPU acceleration in Vegas, heavy effects on video tracks with transitions and pan crop still show stable frame rates in the preview window, even and Best quality! Also, the NewBlue Titler alone is worth picking up this package!
