The 3 Legged Thing X4 Eric 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod with AirHed 1 Ball Head (Blue) is an extremely lightweight, versatile support system for any point & shoot, film, or DSLR camera. Supporting up to 16.7 lb as a system, the tripod & head together weigh only 3.9 lb.

The handsome black tripod features a leg that detaches from the rest of the tripod to become a monopod, and the tall center column can be removed and changed out for the included 3.9" "stubby" center column for low-angle shooting. With its 4-section legs and 2-section center column fully extended, the X4 Eric & AirHed 1 reaches a generous maximum height of 85".

Leg angles can be set at three different positions; at their widest and with the column removed, the top of the tripod chassis sits only 5.3" from the ground (with the head attached, that figure climbs to 9.2"). The leg angles can be set independently to support stable shooting on uneven surfaces. When it's time to transport or store the X4 Eric with the AirHed 1 attached, the legs fold upward 180° so that the feet reach to the top of the head to form a tight little package (19.7" long).

The aircraft-grade T6061 magnesium AH1 head features a robust knurled knob that operates the Arca-style quick-release clamp. The clamp is designed so that the release knob sits under the lens, making it easier to mount, with more finger clearance. Additional knurled knobs manipulate the blue ball head's pan lock and ball/tilt lock. The pan-lock knob features an inset tension control that affects the play of the ball's movement.

The included quick-release plate, also magnesium, is compatible with BlackRapid's R-Strap camera slings, by way of its FastenR-T1 camera screw. The 1/4"-20 camera screw's flip-up D-ring allows you to tighten it to your camera easily. This ring allows you to attach your camera to an R-Strap and quickly move it from around your neck or shoulder to the AirHed 1 without removing the sling.

Constructed of eight-core Stealth Carbon Fiber, the 26mm (upper section diameter) legs offer excellent lateral and torsional strength
Magnesium alloy construction of tripod chassis, head, and plate for lightweight strength
Grub screw in the wide mounting plate enables extremely steadfast connection with the head
Spirit level on tripod chassis, and two bubble levels on the rear of the head's quick-release assembly for precise leveling
Smooth-glide leg catches
Leg angles can be set independently at 23°, 55°, and 80°
Spring hook for hanging a ballast for extra stability in windy conditions
Double-section rapid center column is removable and reversible. Also included is a short center column (3.9"), which facilitates shooting from extremely low angles (minimum height is 5.3")
Feet can be unscrewed and interchanged (extra feet not included)
90° slot on head for portrait orientation

Comments about 3 Legged Thing X4 Eric 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod with AirHed 1 Ball Head (Blue):

I've been a photographer for years and this is, by far, the best tripod have ever used!!I have gone through a number of tripods and borrowed a number of them as well (including Manfrotto, Gitzo , and Induro), and none of them have impressed me as much as the 3 legged thing X4 Eric!! It is Light enough that i can now take it with me everywhere in case the chance arrives for some macro photography, or a great landscape shot. The carbon Fiber is highly durable, as I discovered during a rough-and-tumble field test. The twist locks are very secure, providing a very stable platform for any type of photography. The independent 3-angle legs allow for amazing flexibility in getting the camera to the exact height needed for various shots. The invertible adjustable center column covers anything the legs can't do on their own. The height without the center column extended puts my 60D right at eye level (I'm 6'0". With the center column fully extended, it makes an excellent stand for off-camera flash. The ability to remove the leg and convert it to a monopod makes this a handy tool for travel and city shooting. One of the best features of this tripod is that it isn't Black!! The color selections naturally blend into almost any natural landscape, making it perfect for close-encounter animal photography. Even the case is impressive, in that most tripods don't come with one and the ones that due tend to have a rather pathetic drawstring sack that serves little purpose. The bag provided by 3LT is well padded, well designed, and in keeping with their stylish motif. Even the Ball head is surprisingly good. I have not tried this tripod with anything longer that 200mm, but some of the angles and positions I have set up in are definitely a test for most ball heads. There is no creep when locking the ball into place and once locked down, it doesn't move. I won't say that this is the greatest ball head I have ever used, but the design, quality, and precision of this head far surpasses any other head I have seen in this price range. I have only had the tripod for a few weeks, but I have yet to thing of an arrangement or be caught by a shooting situation that this tripod can not accommodate. I am exceptionally happy with this tripod. I will gladly recommend this product to anyone! 3LT - you have a customer for life!!

I've used those several times since I received it and I can say that it works for me. The construction is great and I haven't experienced any problems with camera shake as a result of this tripod. I've taken photos using this tripod on a fairly windy day and it stood up to the test. Not mad about my purchase at all!

I use this tripod with a Canon MKII 5D with attached battery grip and both a 24~70 2.8 and 70~200 2.8 lens. I use a Really Right Stuff L bracket to mount the setup on the tripod and it supports the weight with no problem.

I have a few different tripods, each one fills a specific need. I bought this one primarily as a travel tripod. It's perfect for that. It's incredibly light and sturdy. I couldn't find anything else on the market that had the height I needed and could also fold up so compactly. I've only used a couple times so far but feels well made. Maybe not as well made as a gitzo but it does more and cost less. I would recommend.

Primarily using for Landscapes, It's way lighter than my manfrotto. Can get very close to the ground with ease and feels rock solid for how light it is. I was tired of lugging around my heavy tripod on my hikes so this fit the bill perfectly. Been waiting some time to get my hands on one of these. Love it!
