The GoPro HD HERO2 Surf Edition is specifically designed for shooting HD video while you surf. Capture 1080p at 30 frames per second (fps), 960p at 48 or 30 fps, and 720p video at 30 or 60 fps, as well as 5, 8 or 11 megapixel digital still photos. The HD HERO2 Surf Edition can be mounted to your board with adhesive base mounts or the FCS fin plug mount, and of course, using the housing that's waterproof up to 180 ft (60m). Plus, plenty of optional accessories can be used with the camera for shooting in a variety of other settings.
In addition to giving you shooting capabilities almost anywhere, the HD HERO Surf Edition features an integrated battery warmer, Wi-Fi BacPac / Wi-Fi Remote compatibility and an easy-to-use LCD interface. Plus, the camera has LED lights viewable from any angle and can support shooting bursts of 10 photos per second. You can recharge the battery while you record via USB cable and enjoy time-lapse photography every 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. The HD HERO2 Surf Edition even supports live streaming from the web and Wi-Fi video preview and playback on your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.

If you want to take a picture just to show to your friends, worth it. If you are a professional and want to make a real good videos, worth it. If you want just see and improve your surf, worth even more!

Used it on the last day of sailing class so my boat mate and I could see how goofy we looked. What a great day of sailing. Set it to fire every 30 sec. When I got home, I downloaded the card and was amazed. Quality,fun,excited,and wow factor. One battery,suction cup, and orange floaty.

The Hero2 is surprisingly small and lightweight. Very easy to use and great videos. Looking to buy more types of mounts for more uses. I would highly recommend the Hero2 from B&H.

Twice as good in every way. The 11MP stills allows you to crop photo's without loosing clarity - which is useful if taking shots of other people in the surf - where the wide FOV in the GoPro can make them seem further away.
The 10 burst sequence makes sure you never miss the money shot.
The menu is more intuitive and easier to navigate.
The colour grading is definitely better than the original HD with a truer representation of actual colours vs the "warm" appearance of the last edition.
All in all, well worth the upgrade....and why not, 2 GoPro's are better than one anyway!

I did not have the chance yet to use this amazing camera, just to test it.
Needless to say that I'm very familiar with the old model, the HD Hero.
So, I must say that GoPro made a fine and perfect action camera even better!
This new model features a nice and detailed LCD that displays all modes and settings that the user can shoot, in full detail (you do not need to know anymore i.e. that "video mode 4 means 960p 30fps")
Also, the new model comes with a time lapse feature, very handy filming sunsets or other nature events and a 48fps mode, very nice for slow-motion...

I bought the gopro to document some of my kitesurfing outings. What I like about the camera is all the other features it has besides regular video. The time lapse pictures are great for shots of getting to your destinations or setup of equipment. The camera is really easy to use and it has a one button mode (if camera is on, it records); great for when you have your hands full.
One aspect of the camera that should be improved is the adjusting screw for tilting the camera. It is good for quick adjustments but without a lock, the housing will tilt when you hit the water hard.
Also be aware of fogging.

I have only used the camera once, but the operation is a little tricky. On a bright day it is hard to see the small print that indicates the cameras status. Took many stills before I got back to video mode. The best wave of the day was of coarse missed. The camera would not turn off and I ended up having to remove the battery. The next usage will be the test if it is defective. So far not so good.
