The Zacuto Zwiss Cage is an accessory cage for a DSLR video camera that provides dual handgrips, a top handle for low-angle shots, a pair of standard 15mm rods for attaching a follow focus or a matte box. All over the top Zwiss Plate of the cage are 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting holes for attaching accessories in countless configurations, for convenience and optimal balance: audio receivers, Israeli arms, lights, monitors, and more.
The heart of the cage is the DSLR Baseplate, which features an adjustable height so you can accommodate just about any DSLR camera and line it up with the 3.5"-long 15mm rods. On the vertical sides of the Zwiss Cage are dual handgrips, and on the Zwiss Plate is a Top Handle. These handles allow you to carry it like a traditional accessory cage or in a low-angle style.
As you'd expect from Zacuto, the Zwiss Cage is endlessly configurable – you can remove or substitute any of the parts without the use of tools. The sides connect to the top via 15mm Z-Release connections. Plus you can mount accessories to the top cheese plate, for instance, by using Zacuto's ZUDs or Zamerican Arms (not included) to enable their quick release.
- The Top Handle attaches to the Zwiss Plate via two 1/4"-20 screws (and of course it's removable to free up space or to lessen the weight). The handle facilitates capturing video from low angles and makes it easy to transport the rig
- The DSLR Baseplate is fully adjustable and expandable. The height of the plate can be adjusted for compatibility with all DSLR cameras with and without battery grips – even tall cameras such as the Canon 1D Mark IV and 1Dx
- A camera can be quickly released from the rig by turning red knob on side of the DSLR Baseplate, then pulling up on camera. The quick-release plate stays mounted to your camera so you can easily switch between using the camera as part of the cage or on its own
- Your tripod plate mounts to bottom of the DSLR Baseplate by using standard threads: two 1/4"-20 and a 3/8"-16. The 3.5" rods on the front of the baseplate are perfect for mounting a follow focus or matte box. For longer lenses, rod extensions or longer rods may be needed
