The Puffin Pad Long Lens Support with Tether Kit from Puffin Pad is an innovative, lightweight alternative to using a beanbag to support a long telephoto lens. The Puffin Pad is constructed of closed-cell foam, and a 1/2" deep memory foam top adopts the shape of your lens barrel.
The bottom of the pad has a round groove that gives way to a deeper slot. The first level is for straddling a relatively slim object such as the top of a gate or a car door with the window down. The deeper slot is for mounting your lens and the attached camera body directly onto a half-rolled window. For shooting from flat surfaces, you can flip over the Puffin Pad and nestle the lens into the wide groove.
The included Tether Kit includes a mounting bracket that attaches a 30" breakaway lanyard to the Puffin Pad. This allows you to transport the Puffin Pad hands-free by hooking the lanyard to a belt loop, backpack, carabiner, etc. You can also use the Tether Kit to secure your Puffin Pad to an erratically moving vehicle, attaching it to a boat rail or rollbar.
The Puffin Pad is also appropriate for supporting small camcorders and cameras with shorter telephoto lenses.

Comments about Puffin Pad Long Lens Support with Tether Kit:
I would say would be most useful for safari trucks, Land rovers etc. I am planning on using it for polar bear viewing in Churchill.
On my car the curved sides & glass make the pad point skyward....this product is best for slab sided utility vehicles not swoopy modern cars...
v/light though & will be more convenient for travel than a full beanbag.

Comments about Puffin Pad Long Lens Support with Tether Kit:
Used the puffin pad with a 600mm lense and it worked to my expectations. It stayed in place without using the tether. The pad was firm enough for support with just enough give on top to not scratch your lense.Pad is low enough on door to use with a big lense.A little smaller than I thought it would be.

Comments about Puffin Pad Long Lens Support with Tether Kit:
I'm not quite sure why after slogging around all day looking for the perfect nature photo op, tripod stored, and heading back to the RV, something, somewhere, pops it's head up and you are trying to grab your camera with that heavy 400mm lens for a perfect picture. We're not getting any younger people, and that lens is heavy! Finally somebody thought about the comfort of the car photographer. I can even take my 89 year old mother out and she can use the puffin for a steady photograph. Sure beats putting my jacket on the window to hold my camera. I love these kinds of inventions. Very handy dandy, yes indeedie!
