The Quantum Instruments OMICRON QF26 Ring Light for Flash and Video is the first "Chromatically Correct" LED Ring Light for use with both still photography and HDSLR video. It is a constant light source--not a flash--that features both "flash" (still image) and video modes. The QF26 enables you to switch from shooting video to shooting stills without changing your equipment. Enjoy beautiful, shadow-less lighting.
The OMICRON QF26 utilizes 80--that's right, 80--LED lamps. By using colored LED's, Quantum has filled in the spectral gaps that exist in white LED sources, to provide a more complete and natural light spectrum.
Well-suited for fashion and glamour photography, the QF26 can give you that high fashion look you crave, the one you see in designer ads. It's also great for product and industrial, wedding, and difficult product photography, like that of jewelry and food.
Thanks to the QF26, switching between video lights and photo flashes is now a thing of the past. Jump from one type of image capture to the other without having to spend time and effort changing equipment. Capture gorgeous, high-resolution images either way. Use video mode for continuous lighting for movies, call on the flash mode at any time to grab that still shot you just can't miss--and then switch right back to recording!
The included mounting bracket is designed for use with all popular DSLR cameras, and is adaptable to other still and video cameras, too. When used in conjunction with the Quantum TRIO or Qflash T5d-R, the QF26 light is fully compatible with your Nikon or Canon camera system's TTL or manual flash modes. To shoot in video-only mode, a Qflash or TRIO is not required. The OMICRON is powered by any TURBO battery in flash mode, and by a TURBO 3 or TURBO Blade rechargeable battery in video-only mode (battery not included).

Comments about Quantum Instruments OMICRON QF26 Ring Light for Flash and Video:
I tried to use this as a flash unit on my Canon 5D MkII, so this unit may work better as a video light. Note that you can't plug this directly into your camera: you need a QFlash (as well as a battery, of course), which means that in addition to the nearly $800 for the Omicron, you need to shell out over $1000 for the other components. You need to actually take the bulb out of your QFlash and plug the Omicron into it - not a comfortable operation to do too often, given how expensive and delicate flash bulbs are. Once you do all this, you find that the Omicron doesn't actually flash consistently - there are unexplained misses - way too many for a serious photographer to risk. Finally, the quality of the light is good, but weak: at f7, t160th of a second, and ISO 400, it can hardly illuminate 8 feet away. All in all, this is a very poor excuse for a ring light.

Comments about Quantum Instruments OMICRON QF26 Ring Light for Flash and Video:
The quality of the light is great, especially in white parts (for example white shirts or white smocks, actually I have only experience as a normal flash lightning) don't worry about putting more or less light into the flash. I use a Trio (with new firmware from Quantum and "r" for ringlight is shown in the display) in combination with omicron ringlight powered by lumedyne HV ultra mega cycler. Surprisingly the omicron needs more power than expected (I took about 300 shots on an evening event) and I think I have to change to Quantum turbo in the near future. As BobP said: for cameras with battery grips (or tall cameras such as a Canon 1d III) one will have to change the brackets

Comments about Quantum Instruments OMICRON QF26 Ring Light for Flash and Video:
First of all let me tell you that I love Quantum products, they are just too good however, I am not satisfied with Omicron QF26 and I will tell you my reasoning. (Also, to be fair to Quantum, I have not used it much yet - only used it for two weeks- as you all know its a new product and I got it the day it came out)
--- The bad---
- Way too expensive
- You need Trio & Turbo battery to operate this light if you want to use
continuous & flash as well...(wow, calculate that)
-Too big & bulky (Ok, that was not my biggest problem, I am use to quantum bulky products) but it was bigger than I expected
- I am not too happy with light itself, I did a photo shoot last week and use a flash light, that photo shoot came out lot better than this expensive light.
- Though this light is bright, It's not powerful as I thought it would be, for example if you shooting at night in lighted area - but not enough light- the light from ring light will get dissolved in street lighting and that defeat the purpose.
- Its not shadowless light as Quantum advertises
- I put my T3 on my belt and the cable get pulled when you lift camera to take pictures. (I see new cable in near future - another expense)
----- The good thing---
- It does fill light in the eye socket so you don't get dark circle (I think it is ok as a fill light)
- It's color corrected so it's not white led light
- It fits MOST of my lenses (I didn't try it on my 200 f/2.0 yet)
- Its made by Quantum it can't be bad
----My overall feeling---
- Way too expensive - not worth it.

Comments about Quantum Instruments OMICRON QF26 Ring Light for Flash and Video:
The Omicron fits all the lenses I have (I have up to 77mm). Because it requires newer batteries (with white pilot lights) to operate the continuous light directly without flickering, one should always use a flash unit (I have Trio units) to power both the flash and continuous light, and then one can use any battery that will power the flash unit. I use a Turbo 2x2 or Turbo SC (with amber pilot light). My Turbo Blade (with white pilot) will power the continuous light without flickering. Outside of power issues, the quality of the light, continuous or flash, is exceptional, both for coverage and light temperature. For cameras with battery grips (or tall cameras such as a Canon 1d) one will have to reverse the position of camera and light unit on the bracket.
