The Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon Digital EOS offers an "all-in-one" super-zoom lens solution, from wide-angle to long telephoto. It provides the equivalent focal range of approx. 29-320mm when used with a Canon digital SLR camera*. This lens has the OS (Optical Stabilizer) system, which minimizes image blur caused by camera shake, and offers the equivalent of shooting at a shutter speed 2-3 stops faster. This allows handheld telephoto zoom shooting even in poorly lit conditions. It also includes a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) for quiet, high-speed autofocus.
The 18-200mm's optical design incorporates aspherical lenses and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass, which provides the utmost correction for all types of aberrations. It also enables this extended super-zoom lens to be housed in a compact and lightweight construction.
DC lenses are exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras. The image circle (rear of lens) is sized to match the smaller dimensions used for the APS-C image sensor found on many digital cameras. As a result these lenses are also more compact and lightweight, and are better matched to digital SLR cameras.
Note! (*) Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras or for any digital SLR camera with image sensor bigger than APS-C size.

I love this lens! I am a college student and have had the occassion to use some of the camera equipment the college has to offer their photography students. What they have is the Canon Rebel EOS xsi with the same or equivilent lens by Sigma. I loved theirs so much I got my own equipment. I got the Canon Rebel EOS T2i and wanted to get the other kind of camera equipment the college has as I loved theirs so much. The sigma lens I got I feel is the best combination of features for almost any kind of photography from portraits, to landscapes and close ups. This has a great range of focal lengths, depth of fields, and with the built-in optical stabilization feature you can shoot with slower shutter speeds without a tripod where a tripod is normally required to maintain a sharp image than what you could with an ordinary lens without the optical stabilzation, because it helps to minimize the camera shake, or lens blur from the internal mechanism movement. I love that I only need one lens to shoot almost anything I could ever want to shoot. The only problem I have seen is that you have to be careful not to get the lens hood vinietting(sorry for mispelling) when you either zoom in or use the wide angle settings. You don't always see this till you look at your images on a pc screen or monitor and you begin to notice a slight shadowy edge to the image. So I'd reccomend looking closely through the view finder or preview on the camera to be sure you're not getting the vinientting. I find that by turning the lens hood around so it is facing the back of the lens not the front of it in these situations it helps to eliminate this problem.
I mostly got this to use as I am going to go into photography and will be needing to keep my equipment simple, compact, easy to transport and carry with me, etc. and because it keeps the amount of equipment I need to have for my portrait shoots to a minimum without sacrificing good quality and good range of focal lengths and so on. I recently was hired to shoot my 1st wedding and I used the same lens and borrowed the college's equipment for the occassion as I didn't have my own at that time. Between my training and the equipment it worked so well I have had others hire me for shooting their pictures as well. The wedding was a difficult shooting situation and this camera and lens made it work out very well. I didn't have to take several different lenses making it much easier to transport and carry all the needed equipment for the shoot myself and making less trips and less time to set up and shoot. In the case of a wedding or other time sensitive photo shoots this is a major plus! Especially if you don't have an assistant to help you carry or set up your equipment and don't want to change lenses all the time. I also take candids of family and other people, animals, landscapes, travel pictures, etc. I love to photograph a variety of different subjects in a variety of settings so this works great! I love it! I definitely give it 5 stars!

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
this is my first lens I bought to replace my lens kit that came with my Canon EOS Rebel XS; i love it. The lens was a little stiff when I took it out of the box, but with some use it is now easy to zoom in and out. I use this lens as my primary replacement lens for my lens kit and it preforms so good. I love having the wide range of zoom.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
I use this lens with a T3i for general photography.
Pros:
- Zoom length- lots of flexibility
- Light- easy to carry around
- Tight- no problem with zoom creep.
- Well made
- Price
- Lightroom 4.1 RC2 has a lens profile and can correct some of the optical shortcomings. Not sure about earlier version.
- Shade is included
- Fast focusing motor
Cons:
- Image quality is not up to pro quality, but that is to be expected at this price point.
- Slow. Again, at this price point, what more can you expect? Would love to have a 2.8 lens, but that would mean I would have to give up the camera to afford it.

I have used this lens at indoor volleyball games and outdoor scenic photos. It is marginal for indoor sports but I expected this because it is not a fast lens, but with the high ISO of modern SLRs I can still get reasonable results.
I like the wide range of focal lengths. Outdoors I need only one lens to carry to get a wide range of shots. This makes it a nice lens to have on hikes so you don't have to lug a camera bag along.

Zoom could be a touch smoother but I love that I can pack this one lens and have all situations covered. I don't have to bring a large bag with me which means less bulk whether in the field or shooting events inside.

Very pleased. I read a review that rated it at 7 at all zoom ranges ,, on a scale of 1 to 10. I believe it is a 7 !! I was amazed at how small , light , and Great the IQ is. It has better IQ than my L glass 100 400,with its rating of 6 . So I would buy this again !! Amazing lens for the money. Thank you Sigma .. This lens is better than the very good 7D I use it on. Overall the best lens to have on the camera, with its amazing wide angle to telephoto view. The close ups at 200 (300 eqiv) ARE STUNNING.

I bought this lens thinking that I should have bought the cannon model since I bought a canon 7d. I got the lens and try it out and the picture show great quality and clear. I know it's not the L model but for that price, it's worth it. One thing I like most is that so far it's working very well with my canon 7d. Zooming is smooth and is a great quality made so no complaint. I hope this help you make your decision.

Images captured from this lens is sharp and colors are vibrant. Being small, this is a great travel lens to have. Its going to be on my EOS550 for most of the time. F6.3 is not an issue for me. Lens lock is a very useful feature as this lens will creep if not lock.

Using on well worn Canon 20D. Feels quite heavy in comparison to Canon but operates well. Price seems a bit high as Canon includes their 18-200 in kits for the same price difference.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
I've been looking for a zoom lens to take with me on a trip to Europe in a month or so. I saw a deal alert for this one, and having already owned the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and loving it, I thought this would be a solid purchase (also it has received pretty good reviews from others). After playing around with it and taking around 1,000 photos with it, I'm very happy with the purchase. The lens holds up, although the low lighting areas can get force one to crank the ISO up (after all, it's not a super fast lens, but fast enough indeed).
I definitely recommend this lens to anyone seeking a nice zoom lens that feels solid and well manufactured while also not breaking the bank.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon Digital EOS:
This was my first non-Canon lens that I bought for my T3i. It is very well constructed and not too heavy. It is tack sharp at the 18 mm and through to 200 mm. Focus is relatively quiet and the optical stabilization feature works very well. The price of this lens was also quite reasonable compared to a comparable Canon lens.
This lens will probably be my go-to lens. It is versatile in that it can be used for close-ups, portraits, and landscapes. Really can't get over the quality of the lens, considering that I thought anything other than Canon would be inferior. How wrong was I.

Used it on a recent overseas trip.
Good points:
- Useful zoom range, including decent angle of view at the wide end
- Not too heavy but still solid construction
Not so good points:
- Some 'stickiness' to the zoom mechanism at the mid-range
- Had trouble getting the light metering right with this lens (on a Canon EOS 60D body) that I hadn't observed in other lenses before
- Vignetting (nothing that the corresponding lens profile in Lightroom can't correct though)
- Min. focusing distance is a bit high (but performs per the specs)
