The Cineroid Horizon is a monitor-top artificial horizon that senses and displays whether your framing is level – and how far you've strayed. Specially designed to mount to the top of a Steadicam monitor, the Horizon also works with just about any other handheld camcorder rig. Think of it as a really large, bright bubble level.
The Horizon consists of a main unit (transmitter), which senses the level; a remote controller, which can be used to adjust the main unit's settings; and a display with seven LEDs, which clearly shows whether your framing hews to the actual horizon. By manipulating controls either on the main unit or on the controller, you can customize the Horizon system by adjusting LED brightness and overall sensitivity. Though the main unit sends only left-to-right leveling information to the display, it actually features two smaller LED displays: one for left-to-right leveling and one for front-to-back leveling.
The main unit is designed to attach to a Steadicam base via its 1/4"-20 thread or by way of its magnetic connectors (a corresponding metal mount is included) and the display attaches to a Steadicam monitor or any other on-camera monitor by using the included double-sided tape. The main unit can attach to other rigs in the same fashion that it attaches to Steadicam systems.
