The Republic of Gamers G74SX-DH71 17.3" Notebook Computer from ASUS houses the power of a tricked out desktop gaming PC in one portable notebook computer. This ASUS notebook redefines the term "mobile gaming." Full resolution graphics, consistent frames per second (fps) and high definition multimedia are compacted into a notebook which allows you to dominate the competition while on the go.
This ASUS notebook has a 17.3" HD+ display that is backlit with LED lamps. LED lamps brighten faster, are more energy efficient and provide better image quality than their CCFL counterparts. The screen has a true 16:9 aspect ratio, which is also the standard of HDTVs. The Full HD 1920 x 1080 native resolution is supported by a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M with 3GB of dedicated memory. The 17.3" display is also 3D-ready for the ultimate immersive gaming and viewing experience.
The system is powered by a quad-core 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 2670QM processor. It also comes with 12GB of DDR3 RAM, two 750GB 7200rpm hard drives for a total of 1.5TB of hard drive storage, a Blu-ray player with DVD burning capabilities, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0+HS, an integrated 2-megapixel webcam and microphone as well as built-in stereo speakers. This computer is everything a heavy user needs. I use it for graphic design and CS5 applications load in a blink. Battery life is amazing, (about 3hrs in full throttle). Screen is super clear and bright, and very comfortable to work on for hours. MS Word loads in under 5 seconds. I have been using it for two weeks without a single glitch. Quiet, powerful and smooth. I have my old two computers running on it in virtual mode, and it does not even feel it. Sound is great but you will need headphones to actually enjoy it. Keyboard is comfortable. Mouse pad great. In short, one of the best computers I ever used and I use computers for a living. Only thing that you might not like is its weight. It is heavy. But for the quality, weight is a minor inconvenience.

I received this notebook the day I was supposed to. B&H handled everything perfectly. It did not power on at all, however, and I had to send it to California (from Florida) for repair by ASUS. I am still waiting for its return. It has been 11 days. This is the second ASUS notebook I buy that I have to send back immediately because of hardware failure.

For gamers, my G74X 12gb ram/3gb graphics i7 laptop is well suited, flawless operation, and very awesome graphic details. However I also use this with adobe master collection programs and so far I seem to run into a stand still when used with adobe after effects. I haven't had a chance to try the other programs except PS,Ill, Prempro, encore, & bridge. I could be wrong if I had software issues, but any pc is nothing like mac. I've used both. Design programs I mostly use mac with the right mulitmedia components.
Overall great pc to have, with the exception the speakers is not as it could be. In a scale 1-5, I'll give the speakers 2. If you use headphones, sounds fantastic.
The pc does not heat up as much either. Good air circulation. Size wise it can bulky/heavy, but i don't mind.

I picked this laptop up with the intentions of using it as a mobile DAW, and playing FPS on downtime. Now that I have it in my possession I'm noticing all the little details that make this an impressive laptop. There's the aluminum hinge that holds up the massive display, and the aluminum keyboard facade that prevents any dips. Everything is visually/functionally sleek and satisfying. The only gripe I have is the motion blur on blu-ray. Other than that, it is very much worth the cost.

My impressions have been more than adequate. My version came with SSD drive making it blistering fast! I would recommend this laptop to my friends. Unfortunately for some I have noticed is not pretty enough. It's whats underneath that counts and it packs a punch especially the graphics card no sweat.
