This very sleek designed USB powered passport sized portable hard drive is the ultimate solution for me to store all of my movie, video and image files. 2TB gives me peace of mind and the USB 3.0 and backward compatibility of USB 2 means I can keep this hard drive for a very long time. It is also so light weight that I carry it around with me everywhere.

Truly amazing storage warehouse, Madison Square Garden size, in your pocket.
Great to keep huge amounts of confidential company information away from prying eyes and snoops in the job, on the go.
All these huge USB HDD's have a wake-up delay/jerk of a few seconds. This is about 3 to 5 seconds. Go Solid-State to get around it, but it'll cost you dear.

I use this device to store videos and photos during holiday trips. It has around 1.8TB storage. It's easy to use - plug and play. It's very quiet. I don't have usb 3, but transferring via usb 2 was fast.

Comments about Western Digital 2TB My Passport Portable Hard Drive (Black):
I bought this to accompany another WD 1TB My Passport drive that I have been using for some time now. I only use them once a week to do critical backups, consisting of purely documents and photos. Since I have had zero problems with the old Passport, and zero problems with any of the 7 internal drives I have in my home PC, I tend to have a lot of trust in the reliability of WD drives. Obviously, any drive can fail, but I just haven't had that experience with the newer WD drives. I haven't had the 2TB drive that long, so all I can say is that it simply works as it should. And yes, for those wondering, USB 3.0 is highly worth it.

The quality of the case etc is very high quality compared to other passport drives. The drive itself is fast but have not tested the USB 3.0 yet.

Using Black Magic Disk Speed Test, write / read cycle a 5GB file from my 2.7GHz i7 2960XM 8core Clevo laptop, SSD, 16GB Ram etc, = 98MB/s read and write.
Fastest USB3 drive I own.
Only 4 Stars as eventhough my Clevo lappy has 2x USB 3 ports, it can only see one of these drives @ a time (surely WD used different id #s for each drive ?) TBA.

Been waiting for a 2 TB portable for a while. I have a 1.75TB Live Music collection in the flac format. This is the perfect drive to hold it all! USB 3.0 is awesome. It seems to be 2- 1TB drives sandwiched together in a single shell.

Comments about Western Digital 2TB My Passport Portable Hard Drive (Black):
I waited for a long time for this drive to hit the market, and bought it as soon as it did. I have wanted a small 2TB bus-powered drive for a long time because it is so nice to travel with compact storage options. I have only had it a week or so but I feel good about the quality, as Western Digital has been making My Passport drives for years now, and the drive has a 2 year limited warranty.
I always re-format my hard drives in disk utility before using them to avoid possible compatibility issues later on, and to erase all data that comes pre-installed on the drives. I did that with this drive as well.
One note - this drive is slightly bigger than other My Passport editions. I was disappointed about this at first, but considering the amount of storage on this thing, its understandable.

I have had my Passport 2TB HD for two weeks. I plugged it in to a USB 3 port and it started humming. I carry it with my laptop and use SyncToy to keep it up to date with my desktop. I only wish it had a padded case, but it runs fine. No cons at all. It is a winner

Comments about Western Digital 2TB My Passport Portable Hard Drive (Black):
I bought one of these and a 2TB Passport studio. This is a steal for its giant capacity. Seems to work great so far. The USB 3 jack seems more solid than the previous mini usb jacks which I have had problems with on the previous versions of the MyPassport drives. The MyPassport Studio for the Mac is much more solid, heavy and generally bombproof plus I needed an external drive with Firewire to work with big video files for final cut pro, but the price difference was staggering. An extra $100 dollars just for the firewire port and heavier construction. Uggggh. For backups, music, photos and video that don't need to be moved to a Mac very speedily, get this one. It works great for all my other data. If you do need to move videos back and forth quickly to a Mac, try to holdout, I'm sure more Thunderbolt options are coming soon. The My Passport studio is only for those with that particular need and on a budget right now! I still hate the WD Utilities burned into firmware, who doesn't? Why don't they get rid of that nonsense? It has always been superfluous and stupid.

Comments about Western Digital 2TB My Passport Portable Hard Drive (Black):
I read a lot of reviews about the previous versions of WD's My Passport and was a bit concerned by 1. the preinstalled software that you cant remove and 2. the reliability of the product. Nevertheless I purchased the 2TB version the first day it was available and have been greatly impressed so far. I reformatted right out of the box to work with my Mac. Partitioned to use as an external harddrive and time machine. It's worked flawlessly so far. Tons of storage, tiny package. Very impressed. It makes a little bit of noises when my time machine starts saving, but it's pretty unnoticeable, nothing louder than my computer sometimes makes when working.
