Comments about Coleman CSXSWP-R 1080p Xtreme Waterproof Helmet Cam (Red):
I just got the Coleman Xtreme Helmet Cam from B & H and here is my opinion: There are 2 things that the buyer should be aware of: The absence of sound and low resolution.
There is an integrated micro located below the cam but for some reason, it picks up very little sound and what little sound it picks up has a very low signal-to-noise ratio. Even when I talk directly into the mic, a few inches from it, it sounds as if I were miles away. Not kidding. And there is no adjustment that can be done. Somebody goofed somewhere.
Second, the so-called Full HD 1080p resolution doesn't look to me like HD. It is nothing like the HD I get from TV broadcasts on my large-screen HDTV. It looks more like standard definition. Other cameras use 5 megapixel sensors to achieve Full HD. I suppose that the 1.6 megapixel CMOS sensor of the Coleman is not up to the task for real HD.
That being said, I will not returm this Helmet Cam because these weaknesses won't prevent me from using the cam on my utralight aircraft to analyze the aerodynamics from different point of views. It is very small and easy to operate. It has anchor points on 3 sides of the cam itself and 2 different brackets that can be used to install this cam about everywhere you can think of.
The Li-Ion battery is integrated and cannot be changed. I only tested the cam around the house and have yet to install it on my aircraft so I cannot speak about durability and battery life; but all the connections and software worked properly on my PC and HDTV.
