My wife and I have been using this NAS by WD for nearly two weeks now and everything is working well. It is a great way of combining all of our files in one place with access from our Android phones and internet connections at work. It has been a challange going through the files now that they are all in one place due to multiples of many files in different locations, but that's why we bought this item. We wanted to simplify our digital lives into one organized location and this helped us accomplish that. We are using it in the RAID 1 configuration so that each hard disk is a mirror of the other...maximizing our security, but only giving us 3TB of space to work with (which is plenty for us).

I've been attempting to make use of a Buffalo Technology CloudStor Pro the past year in my business and looking for a better solution at the same time. Wow, what do you kinow, the 6TB My Book Live Duo actually does what is promised! I've learned my lesson. Stay away from half-baked Buffalo Technology products that are released before they are ready and stick with a company that manufactures reliable, quality equipment like WD.

I used this drive to consolidate my three, 1TB drives. The setup was very easy, and I really didn't have to do much. It runs quietly and as with most drives without a fan, the temperature always worries me. The software has a handy little notification icon that tells you the temperature status when you hover your mouse pointer over it. I had an issue with permissions, but after getting on the horn with tech support, it was resolved and I gave the WD and the support rep that helped me high feedback marks.

I plugged it into the network ,and it initialized for a few minutes. I put the cd in and scanned for network drives ,done ! It just worked. The little WD icon mounts on your taskbar ,and monitors uptime and temperature. I have win 7 ,vista and xp ,and they all connect and stay connected. I am so happy replacing 6 drives, and not having a file server running 24/7.

I added this drive to my home network for several reasons:
I am moving most of my entertainment to digital format and just needed space to grow.
I wanted an easy-to-maintain backup and the RAID option was important.
I wanted off-site access.
I have had a My Book World NAS drive for a while now and have been using that for my backups. This meant that one of my computers was the main one and held all content. Since that computer is getting old and needs to be replaced, not to mention that it was quickly running out of disk space I decided that it was time to move all of my content to an NAS drive and then access it from whatever computer I wanted. That's what I did and it has performed great. The only negative is that the manuals could be better but once you get it up and running that should no longer be an issue. It isn't that it's complicated to set up but they could have done a better job on the manuals.
