The Freecom 1TB HD Dual Interface USB 3.0 / FireWire 800 Hard Drive for Mac is a 2.5" SATA drive designed to provide additional storage for your MacBook. It's Mac HFS+ formatted for optimal compatibility with the Mac OS, and is 100% TimeMachine compatible, making it ideal for data backups. The drive offers a full 1.0 TB of data storage capacity and features both SuperSpeed USB 3.0 (backwards compatible with 2.0) and FireWire 800 interfaces, for maximum data transfer rates of 5.0 Gbps and 800 Mbps, respectively. Since it is powered via the USB port, no power adapter is required. The drive's enclosure is constructed from solid, lightweight magnesium, which keeps the drive protected and cool.

Out of the box, failed to mount on my new MacBook Pro. Disk Utility discovered a corrupt directory (on a brand-new hard drive?!) and, to top it off, the disk un-mounts if the cable is so much as touched. This is an overpriced Samsung disk encased in a nice looking magnesium enclosure, except that the less expensive Samsung brand portable drives are much more reliable. I'm going right back to Seagate. This deeply flawed product is essentially useless.
