Comments about Pelican 1153 O-Ring:

I purchased this when I discovered the case's original o-ring to be damaged beyond repair. Unfortunately a section of the original O-ring had pulled out of the slot in which it is normally housed. As a result, the o-ring was pinched when the case was closed. I did not notice this until some time later and by then the damage was done. All attempts to reinsert the original o-ring failed. I was concerned as this would likely result in the case no longer being water-proof.

Before installing the new o-ring I removed the damaged seal and was surprised to find residual adhesive in the slot which originally housed the o-ring. Presumably the adhesive held the o-ring in place, but posed problems when attempting to insert the new o-ring. I removed the remaining adhesive using Goo Gone and Q-Tips. At last, I was able to reinsert the new o-ring, however it took longer than I would have expected. There's a bit of a learning curve to the process.
