Acorn Masterkey 25 - USB MIDI Controller
The Masterkey 25 from Acorn is a 25-key, velocity sensitive USB MIDI controller, perfect for portable computer music creation while providing all the control needed for unfettered creativity. The keys have a dynamic and fast response ideal for programming bass lines, drums, or synthesizer lines. The keyboard ships with a copy of PreSonus Studio One Artist software, but is compatible with any standard MIDI software program.
Four assignable knobs and an assignable single fader provide real-time control of instrument or mix parameters, even while playing. Rubberized pitch bend and modulation wheels allow for further articulation. The three-digit LED display provides navigational feedback making it quick and easy to find the right menus for changing MIDI channels, sending out program changes, transposing or programming the real-time controls. Octave buttons instantly shift the keyboard range up and down.
The Masterkey 25 is USB class-compliant, which means that no drivers are needed for supported operating systems. Simply plug the keyboard into a USB port on the computer and the operating system does the rest. The included Studio One Artist software is a powerful recording and production platform that allows for working quickly and staying focused. It offers unlimited tracks and plug-ins, employs extensive use of drag-and-drop, and is easy to learn.

It is a true force; not to be taken lightly. If not today; definitely tomorrow. For this is the future. This is the ground floor of Pre Sonus DAW systems, so it is just a taste. However, you cannot beat the bang for the buck of Studio Artist One; although, Pro must be so much better, if Artist is their jumping off point. The sound quality is awesome, learning curve is small and the payoff large, as you drag and drop sounds, loops, and effects into your project. Think about it, most DAW systems are old, and antiquated. Bog down with mounds of useless code the causes problems in today's computers. Whereas; Pre Sonus has streamline their product within the last two years, for the power and abilities of today's computers; not the ones built some fifteen, twenty years ago. Other DAWS beware, Pre Sonus is here; and their packing a very serious contender! Now, on the flip side, I received my copy of Artist, with the purchase of Acorn's Masterkey 25 keyboard that is not up the level of Artist One; keys to slippery for me, but I lack dexterity. I feel in the hands of a true keyboardist it would be quite fair enough; for the input of musical data; and worth it for Pre Sonus's DAW program alone.
