The U36JC-NYC2 13.3" Notebook Computer (Black) from ASUS is a compact notebook computer with a streamlined aluminum chassis. The system is built with portability in mind. It is less than an inch thin when closed and weighs a scant 3.7 pounds. What's more, it can run for up to 10 hours on a single charge thanks to an 8-cell battery and the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine power management system.
Graphics are handled by an nVIDIA/Intel hybrid system. The computer uses a dedicated nVIDIA GeForce 310M graphics card with 1GB of dedicated memory when performance is required. It switches to integrated Intel GMA HD graphics during normal operation in order to extend battery life.
The computer is powered by a dual-core 2.66GHz Intel Core i5-480M processor, which can be overclocked to 2.93GHz, thanks to Intel Turbo Boost technology. It boasts 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 500GB 5400rpm hard drive, a multi-in-1 media card reader, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, USB 3.0 support, an integrated webcam and microphone as well as built-in Altec Lansing stereo speakers. Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) is the installed operating system.

This laptop was very good for the price i paid. I liked the fact that it didn't have a disc drive since i have never used one. It has a good battery life and its nice the fans are on the side. As a student this laptop is great for me to take to lectures to take notes and do my papers and browse the internet.

I was afraid I would return the laptop after installing Fedora 16, but everything worked right out of the box. On the Windows side, I've not had any issues with it.
What I like about it is the weight - light! The laptop fits nicely into my motorcycle backpack, and I don't have to worry about it hurting me at all; I leave my heavy weight at home for gaming, this one is just right.
The sales guy stayed with me to pick the right one - I spent close to 1 (one) hour deciding, he did not seem irritated at all. :) Thanks.

After much research and comparative shopping, I decided to purchase this notebook. Initially, my budget was that of an Apple Macbook and so the specs. that i was looking for were to be comparable to it. I really didn't need anything too flashy and I don't typically do a lot of video editing so I went for the ASUS rather than the Mac.
So far it has held up to (maybe exceeded) expectations. The frame of the computer is built solid and the screen itself was a lot more durable than other notebooks (i.e. ultrabooks) in it's category. It is an extremely quiet notebook suitable for office work and home uses. I've been using the full battery performance of the computer and it has held up to factory standards and advertising.
However, i still wish this notebook had an easier scrolling capability. Scrolling left to right is fine but when it comes down to the scrolling up and down, it has been iffy. Also, what would have made his notebook more of a plus is if it added a backlit keyboard. However, i understand what i was buying prior so i wasn't disappointed.
All in all this is a solid, very affordable notebook. It's really not meant to be the end-all of computers but it certainly does the job. If you're looking for a reliable, clean-looking, lightweight notebook, this might be a good choice. With the deals most distributors are having for this computer...i would definitely consider it while browsing.
