The 4TB Deskstar 3.5" SATA III Internal Hard Drive Desktop Retail Kit from Hitachi is a superb upgrade for your desktop computer's hard disk drive. This drive has a capacity of 4TB and fits into your computer's 3.5" drive bay. It features a SATA interface that can deliver data transfer speeds up to 6 Gb/s. Because this HDD uses a ramp load/unload design that eliminates direct contact between the read/write heads and the disk platter, the risk of shock damage is minimized. This design also improves the drive's reliability and power efficiency. As part of the drive kit, you'll receive Hitachi's GPT Disk Manager software. This included software allows you to overcome the 2.2TB storage capacity limitations found in older versions of Windows without having to buy additional hardware.

Comments about Hitachi 4TB Deskstar 3.5" SATA III Internal Hard Drive Desktop Retail Kit:
I had some worries about a drive of this size under Windoze 7 - my 2TB drive incurred a significant delay each time I selected that drive. The Deskstar is a bit faster (access time) than that (WD) drive. But what would happen to the time to show a directory?
Fortunately it's only a bit slower to show files. There may be a workaround for Windows (I have added the key directories to the search path) but my fear was not realized.
So far I'm pleased with the drive (and the cost per GB). Too early to say anything about reliability, etc.

Comments about Hitachi 4TB Deskstar 3.5" SATA III Internal Hard Drive Desktop Retail Kit:
In my Mac Pro, this is my massive data disk to complement my SSD boot drive. Speed tests show 129MB/second sustained across 16GB file transfers, both read and write. It's quite impressive for a 5400rpm drive... silent, fast and cool. Currently my drive of choice!

Comments about Hitachi 4TB Deskstar 3.5" SATA III Internal Hard Drive Desktop Retail Kit:
I set 6 of these up as a raid 0 (striped raid) and have them running as backups. With 6 of these I have read speeds of 600mbps.
So far over 60% full and all works fine!
