The Smart-AVI FDX-500 Multi-Mode DVI-D and Audio Extender is a transmitter/receiver set that extends a computer's video and audio signals by up to 1500 feet over one multi-mode FC type fiber optic cable. The transmitter connects to a computer by single DVI and stereo audio inputs, and the receiver outputs also by DVI and stereo audio.
The system supports resolutions up to 1920x1200 WUXGA at 60Hz, and it achieves zero pixel loss with TMDS signal correction. It features plug-and-play functionality with monitors enabled for instant recognition, and it permanently learns the DDCs of those that aren't. It is compatible with all operating systems and with all major KVM switches. The FDX uses universal single link DVI connectors and supports Mac, PC, and Linux DVI.
The advantages of using fiber optic cables are that they have a capacity to transfer over very long distances without signal loss, they are immune to electromagnetic interference, and they cannot be tapped and are therefore secure.
