Sony HDR-CX580V High Definition Handycam Camcorder (Black)
Equipped with an embedded 32GB internal flash memory, the Sony HDR-CX580V High Definition Handycam Camcorder (Black) can record up to 11.35 hours of HD LP video footage. It shoots Full HD 1920 x 1080 60p/24p video and can also take 20.4 megapixels still images. It features a back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor that's ideal for low-light situations. Plus, it features a Sony G Lens that supports 12x optical zoom and 20x extended zoom. There's also a 3.0" Xtra Fine LCD touch screen display for easy recording and instant playback.
The HDR-CX580V comes outfitted with several video enhancing features. It has Golf Shot, Face Detection, CinemaTone presets and 24p recording for cinematic quality video. There's also a Tracking Focus function that follows selected subjects as you record. The microphone features 5.1 channel surround sound for dynamic and vivid surround audio. There's even a wind noise reduction function that provides clear voice recording and Geotagging with a built-in GPS receiver and NAVTEQ maps. For professional shooting, the camcorder has a built-in flash, headphone jack for monitoring and a microphone jack for using external mics. The camcorder supports Clear Phase stereo speakers as well.
Sony added a few playback and connection conveniences as well. The HDR-CX580V features Event Browse, which groups video and stills by each particular recording session automatically. It also has a Highlight Playback function that creates movies with transitions and soundtracks for you automatically. With the HDR-CX580V, you can use the Direct Copy feature to transfer your HD footage directly to a hard drive without even using a PC. However, if you do want to upload videos onto Facebook and YouTube, the camcorder comes with a built-in USB cable, as well as editing and application software.

The overall quality of this camera makes it ideal for just about any shooting requirement you may have. It is very compact, with easy navigation through menu and set-up items. Sony's G lens is superb, and I like having the 32 GB hard drive, the zoom capability and mini input for a lav mic. The slightly smaller view screen compared to the older 550 model is not a drawback. I've done interviews in HD that have appeared on web sites and used footage in a few Final Cut editing sequences with excellent results.
