I received this laptop as a law school graduation present from my parents, and now I'm wishing I had been using something like this through the past three years! My most recent laptop was actually a netbook, because I thought it would be easier to cart it to and from class for taking notes. Well, this computer is even lighter than my netbook, and without any of the inconveniences like a small screen and keyboard. It's also faster than any computer I've ever used. I'm used to having to wait a few moments after opening a laptop to actually do anything while it warms up, connects to the internet, etc. But not with this one! I open it up and it's immediately ready for use -- I love it!
Also, I am AMAZED with the battery life! It easily lasts just as long as a netbook, unlike any full-sized laptop I've ever used before. The only thing that I'm not thrilled with is the sound quality, but I don't really expect to hear amazing sound from a laptop.

If it wasn't for the fact that the fan is really loud it would've got 4 or 5 stars - it's actually loud enough that I've considered returning it. You can hear it over the headphones it's so whiny.

I bought this laptop as a birthday (April) present and to replace her previous computer. I liked it so much I almost swapped my old laptop with her new one...but decided she deserved it. The weight, the 13 inch size, screen and keyboard are all excellent plus she has a ton of pictures, music and videos so the 600GB hard dive was important...she loves it. I did a lot of research before this purchase and everything from the price, value and speed are true. Have not used the optical drive yet but have found no negatives after three weeks of use.

I'm a college student, and this laptop works great for handling all of my high processing needs. Its battery life is long enough to last through an entire day of class. Great value. 6GB ram + i5 processor puts this in upper tier of ultrabooks. If you want to watch movies and play music through the laptop's speakers, invest in a different machine, though.

Comments about Toshiba Portege R835-P88 13.3" Notebook Computer (Blue):
Very lightweight, long battery life and enough overall speed to make it a perfect balance of portability and performance.
I did upgrade to 8gb of ram and may put in an SSD in the future.
As others have noted, the display could be a little better and the speakers are not great.
Delivery and support were great from B&H.

This computer has everything I needed, including the CD/DVD drive. The laptop is only about 3 lbs, which is perfect as I bought it in preparation of surgery this summer and wanting somethinglight weight but heavy weight in abilities.

Fantastic, very long battery life averaging 9 hours. Very light with great key board.
B&H provided great service as always! Only drawback is the lack of a wireless switch to switch the antennae off and on.

I have already recommended to a friend in need of a new laptop and considering buying a Mac. Touchpad is very sensitive. Price made it a great deal. If you are doing graphics and artwork you may want something with a larger screen.

Fantastic laptop. I bought this to upgrade my R705 which I have been using for the past few years. I am very happy with this laptop so far. It has - Great Battery Life (about 6 hours watching videos. 7 to 8 hours if doing work or surfing the web)- very light and easy to transport- great port selection (USB 3.0 is a great plus as is HDMI)- Great processor speed and more than adequate RAM. The only downside to this laptop is the 5,200 RPM hardrive that it comes with. For those that are interested to know I have replaced this with a 256 gig SSD and it runs great (Cost me an extra $250). Boots in 20 seconds and application launches are very quick.

I bought this as a combo production machine for Flash animation and a small laptop I could take on presentations, travel, etc. On both counts, it seems to be doing the job. The animators so far haven't noticed a difference between it and our meaty desktops, and I'm very happy with the form factor.

I have had the toshiba portege laptop for almost 2 weeks now, and I have no complaints. I love the size of it, and the fact that the screen is still big enough to be more of a 'laptop', than notebook at 13.3 inches. It seems pretty fast and has been good for everything I have done on it so far - internet, email, work/vpn, i-tunes. The size and weight seems very similar to an airbook. The deliver from B+H was fast as well -I would purchase from here again.

notebook works great so far (couple weeks). one brief minor issue with a Ctrl button that would not dissengage (electrically, not physically stuck), but that's it and it hasn't occured again. i purchased the product for personal use/ light profesional engineering work (some semi heavy graphics usage). havent really tested it's computing limits yet. battery seems good. its quiet and super light.

Comments about Toshiba Portege R835-P88 13.3" Notebook Computer (Blue):
Toshiba's notebooks are really good, and this is my 3th. This time i was looking for a light notebook, wich i could carry easily, like a MacBook air. And this is as light as the MBA. But i expected not to wait so long to do simple tasks, like turn on the computer. Also, for me, the screen has a little bit less contrast that i would like. Even though, it's a nice notebook.

Speakers are also light-weight with poor quality sound. Display - not the best. However, overall - excellent bang for the buck

This laptop provides a great balance between performance and mobility. I run 2-4 VMs for specific functions, and it handles them without a problem. I moved the factory install of win7 into a VM, and run fedora as a primary OS. The linux hardware support is great, if that's a concern. I also upgraded to 8GB of memory right away.
