Who wouldn't want a camera with a 16x Leica zoom lens, 1080i HD video, optical image stabilization, and built-in HDR and panorama shooting? But, be realistic--where are you gonna find such a thing? Right here, as it turns out: the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS15 Digital Camera (Silver).
The ZS15 has an ultra wide-angle 24mm (35mm equivalent) lens, naturally. Plus, the 16x super zoom gives you an extremely long 384mm telephoto lens. And that 24-384mm lens is made by Leica. There's a high res 12.1MP MOS sensor, full 1920 x 1080 60i high definition video with Dolby sound, and it focuses in a lightning-fast 0.1 second. There's even 32x Intelligent Zoom that extends your lens to an astounding 768mm ultra telephoto.
POWER O.I.S. image stabilization keeps your images sharp and clear, whether you're shooting in dim light, taking extreme close-up macro shots, or using the longest telephoto setting. There's even an Active Mode that helps to keep your videos from jumping around. The Venus Engine processor and Intelligent Noise Reduction System deliver the best image quality possible. A host of creative functions and modes like Intelligent HDR (High Dynamic Range), Panorama Shot, burst shooting of 10 frames per second at full 12.1PM resolution, and color modes galore will help you make every photo and every video you create an inspiration.
Intelligent ISO control/motion detection and AF tracking for moving subjects make this one of the easiest cameras ever to use. A 3D photo mode lets you explore the 3D world with your photos and the Handheld Night Shot mode allows you to take gorgeous photos at night--without a tripod! The large, bright 3" 460K-dot LCD makes composing and viewing your images a treat.
All of this comes in a compact package that measures just 4.1 x 2.2 x 1.3" and weighs only 6.5 oz! Your Lumix DMC-ZS15 is ready when you are.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS15 Digital Camera (Silver):
I purchased the ZS15 as a replacement for my ZS3 which developed a mildew spot on a trip to the Amazon. The ZS3 survived rain and continual extreme humidity (albeit with the small fuzzy spot only in movies) where fellow travelers owning $600 Nikon and Canon SLRs completely failed. In fact, both owners replaced their SLRs with Lumix point and shoot cameras during the trip! As the ZS15 is constructed similar to my older model, I anticipate the same hardiness. The big difference between the models seems to be a change from CCD to a MOS sensor; which allows for less lag; quicker focus, bursts, and more accurate shots...and with the 2nd generation sensor, better low light accommodation. I compared the movies and photos between the 2 models--I shoot at 5MP rather than the default 12 as I only view the results on an iPad, computer, and TV--and all images in the new model are crisp, well exposed, and impressive. I generally shoot in Intelligent Auto mode, as the camera does such an exemplary job on its own. The only other mode I use is Scene, where I have selected 'thru the window', high sensitivity, sunset, etc. where a particular shot warrants special treatment. Movie zooming is appropriately gradual, no-flash photos in low light circumstances are impressive, and high-zoom images (16 to 25x) remain focussed and detailed with the IA stabilization feature. As a result of my limited time with this new model, I recommend this camera to anyone who wishes to document their adventures in life.
